Ummm I was like 10. I think it was American Idiot I heard on the radio. Loved it instantly. Went to Best Buy the next day and got AI. About a week later I went back and got Dookie

"HOLY SHIT"

pretty much, it blew my mind, it was so different from all te mediocre shit I usually her on the radio, just amazing.

I would probably go so far as to say it was an epiphany, a musical awakening xD it was boulevard of broken dreams that I heard on the radio, as soon as it started it immediately caught my attention, and then just kept getting better, and better! From then on I was prettymuch singing the song non stop for about 6 months, my friend who also loved green day but long before i did, lent me American idiot and dookie and bullet in a bible (it was pretty damn cool hearing songs like brain stew and hitchin a ride for the first time live, then only later hearing the origionals) and the first cd I bought for myself was international superhits, as I wanted to fill in the gaps.

I was amazed at how almost every song I heard, old or new, I loved, even though at first I didn't think I would like dookie or any older albums I have now grown to love them.

Long and short of it is, hearing green day pretty much enlightened me to the whole rock scene, it was love at first listen, they also got me into the clash, the beatles, cheap trick, the who, the ramones, and countless other new and old bands, not to mention what they have done for my political and phisolophial views, and how they have taught me to stand up for myself and not be afraid to question authority just because someone tells me it is so, to make my own decisions, take risks and live life to the fullest. I sometimes think about how different my life would be without green day and.. Well, I might have a few better grades but Its safe to say I'd be a completely different person.

I know that was TOTALLY longwinded and boring but I got a little carried away, it just amazes me looking back on how green day has influenced me.. I'm just glad I turned on the radio that day, that's for sure!!!

"...have they got a kickass attitude or what?"

Was the first thing I remember thinking after hearing GD for the first time. It shocked me that music could hit you like a brick like theirs does - they were the first band that I ever truly loved. I have a lot to be thankful for actually, they got me into music and now I don't know how I'd live without it.

I was neutral, thought I thought they were pretty good .... xD The first song I heard was Good Riddance... xD

Then my friend was all like, "Dude! American Idiot is so fucking awesome! Best song ever!" and... so I listened to it, and I was like, "Dude! I remember this band!" and... yeah.... xD

that's a great question!

First song I heard was Basket Case many many many years ago.. I thought it was cool and very melodic, but honestly I didn't pay much attention to them. later I heard warning and the same reaction followed.. finally I was totally blown away by Boulevard of broken dreams.

The first time I heard them (American Idiot) I thought they were a pretty good band and nothing more.

The release of 21st Century Breakdown made me think they were a pretty damn good band and when I heard whole International Superhits first, I thought they were the most fucking awesome band in the world. And they are.

I first heard them in 1998, my first encounter was Nimrod and I was freaked out as they were like no band I knew, I thought they were so different which made them interesting. I thought BJ's voice was great, they were the first band I could really relate to, like the voice of my generation.

The first song I heard was probably American idiot or holiday. Both of my brothers liked green day first and I heard American idiot from them and to be honest I wasn't really paying attention to it when it was on. But At the end of 2008 I started listening to holiday again and that's what got me to listen to more of their songs!! And now I'm hooked and have my brothers old green day beanie!:) oh and now both of my brothers are sick of hearing green day because I play them so much!hahaha:)

I loved their style and their music!!! I've never seen a better band in my life!!!

Lmao, when I was 10, based on the orange and green-ness of Warning, and Billie Joe's odd accent, I was convinced they were some crazy Irish group.

I was 10 or 11 but it was the music video of American Idiot... well I was outside with my friend and she kinda pushed me into a window... anyway I got pissed and went inside and started watching this video and thinking... "Who is that small man in black infront of the green flag?"

And then when I got picked up it was on the radio, and I pretty much fell in love with them and their music from there :)

I immediately fell in love with them, and asked my mum to buy Dookie for me a couple of weeks later. It's still my favorite album. At the same time I was listening to BOBD en She's a Rebel a lot as well, and I remembered one day sneaking some money -of my own- to school, and afterwards I quikly went to some music store to buy American idiot. When I came home I tried to hide it in my room. I was like twelve back then. lol

after watching the american idiot trailer on CN i said "i like 'em" :D

At first, when I was 8-9 I kinda liked them but I wasn't showing too much of interest for music at all. When I was 10-11 I adored few of 'some unknown band's' songs. Later it got boring with 5 songs.. When I got their whole discography, I though guys were quite good and love for them just grew on me within the time. :)

at first it was kinda of meh, but then i looked into the meanings of theirs songs and i was like oh my god, then im hooked for life

"Hey that's a cool song.. what band is this, never heard it.." I thought that when I heard Basketcase, and when I was searching for the band I found out it was Green Day and I started to listening more song of them and really begun to like them.

Mmmh....back in 2004/2005 I only heard a little bit of them but I was just too young to realize their awesomeness. so i just yeah knew them and liked blvd. of broken dreams and wmuwse. so with 12 I finally listened to blvd. again. intensly and suddenly fell in love with them. since then i admire them :)

They are good but they aren't that great. :/ Then out of nowhere I fell in love.

I first heard them either in like 4th grade when american idiot came out and i did not like wake me up when september ends and BOBD haha

I just remember watching the video with my sister and her saying 'Hah, they're trying to be goth' and I was like 'What is goth  '

Then she told me. I was so fucking innocent back then. Green Day opened my eyes.

i first heard holiday on the radio and it was my favourite song for a while

and i heard some of there other songs and i never wanted to listen to american idiot because he said fuck in the first verse and i was afraid of getting in trouble

Then i saw a picture of the band in a kzone magazine and though wow theyre like goths

Then they played a few songs from bullet in a bible on the same radio station and i thought wow theyre actually good live.

Then my friend had theyre cd and we would listen to it all the time then we watched the bullet in a bible dvd, and heard some older songs from it and then went back listening to their pre american idiot stuff and loved it

a few years passed and we started listening to other bands....

til 21st century breakdown came out, we bought the tickets to see them in sydney and i was psyced all the time from about march til december last year and i followed thier tour and got onto this website (GDC), learned so much about green day and thier origins, then i saw with my friend and we were blown away and til this day it has been the best band we have ever seen live. (which is why im making a dvd of the concert shh)
