Comrade Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 I first heard Minority (or maybe even Good Riddance way back when) and liked it, but I wasn't really into music back then.
*Megan* Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 The first time I remember listening to them and knowing it was them was back when Warning was in the charts, and I was about 8/9. I never actually bought the album untill a few years later, when i was say 12. So yeah, i was a Warning girl and got into them in about 2002 Then followed them with AI and 21CB
finksgirl Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 The first time I heard them I was like 4 or 5 and Basket Case was on the radio. It was the first time I rode in a Mustang and I was already excited and then this song came on and I loved it. I was bouncing around and stuff. But the first time I heard them and knew their name I was 10. I snuck into my moms room and dug through her boyfriends cd collection and found Dookie. The name was familiar and I loved the artwork so I took it into my room and put it on and I loved it and started remembering all these songs I listened to as a kid on the radio. It was an instant love.
Renjini Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 i remember when i was in around third grade, my brother who was then like 12 was listening to american idiot, holiday, boulevard of broken dreams, and wake me up when september ends. i liked those songs, i sand along to them, not knowing who it was by, then like a week later i watch the music video for i think holiday or BOBD and billie joe freaked the shit out of me. i had nightmares. i mean i was like 8 or 9 and this was like the first time i ever saw a guy in so much eyeliner, i thought he was like some creeper or something. about a year later i liked them a little and then in 6th i rekindled my love and became obsessed. so my first impression was i loved them and then i became creeped out by a man in eyeliner.
Charlieks Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 he first time i heard Green Day (knowing it was Green Day) It was American Idiot and I was like oh wow this is a pretty cool song. And when I saw the video i was like omg that singer is so hot heh. When my sis finally got BIAB and I was listening to it and i heard all the older songs it was like omg thats Green Day???? I LOVE these songs I remember listening to them and loving them the whole time I was growing up!!!
boosho Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Oh i just remembered that when i first heard Green Day i thought they were Irish...
jm_xd Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 i first heard american idiot (or maybe basket case), i liked it a lot, but i didn't start listening to them right after hearing AI. I listened to American idiot, holiday, boulevard of broken dreams etc. and then my friend recommended other songs to me and then i fell in love =) haha
disappearing_boy_39 Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 I first experienced Green Day on the Beavis and Butthead show. It was roughly 1995 and I was around 11. I wasn't even really into music too much despite the fact that my father was a professional drummer and I grew up attending many small shows. Anyway, the video on Beavis and Butthead was Basket Case and at first I thought they sounded funny. I remember comparing them to The Beatles because I thought Billie Joe at a British accent (I remember a lot of people thinking this for some reason). Anyway, I was somewhat apathetic but I remember over the next few days I couldn't get the song outta my head. I was hooked! Within the next few months I had all the albums and was a huge fan. And then I first saw them in concert during the Insomniac Tour. Getting into Green Day turned me into the music fanatic and musician I am today.
Haushinka! Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Well, I remember when I was about 6 - I don't know, i'm not sure exactly what age - but, me & my family would blast Basket Case & jam to it every time it would come on in the car on the radio! Ha, but obviously I wasn't into music then as I am now. I loved Boulevard of Broken Dreams and American Idiot when they first came out. Also, this guy I had a major crush on was really into Green Day, so I figured I should get into them too! So that's what I did. I went on AOL Radio and found out they had a whole music station of their music. I spent days, literally days listening to all of their songs, every single one, even the b-sides & unreleased music. I remember thinking King for a Day was the best song ever, & I thought 1039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours was amazing! ; ) I fell in love with every single song! I officially became a fan. Green Day is definitely the first band i've ever really loved. I never get tired of their music. I then found GDA, and did my research and found out all kinds of things about Green Day. I've been a fan ever since! Sadly, I still haven't been able to see them in concert, though. After buying Bullet in a Bible and watching how totally amazing they are live, I am still to this day, completely jealous of everybody that has seen them peform. Hopefully my dream can come true this August in Dallas!; ) <3
Anette Leone Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 The first time I had contact with Green Day was watching to the video Warning. I thought "the guys are ugly but the song is good!"
21 guns for you Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 I first heard time of your life when i was about 8 and at first i didnt like it but as soon as i got into high school i would play it all the time and i went out and bought warning then i bought all of there albums
GreenxDayxRockxMyxSocks Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 I remember when i was about 9 i was watching festival highlights and i saw them on stage with Green Day written above them. I was like what kinda name is that for a band, what does it mean. Its Gay lol oh how i was so wrong
Rock Tie Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 i remember the first i watched american idiot video i wasn't know even what they're saying but i was like OMG this is so cool this the real music . and in the first i thought billie looks weird =)
Holly Ann Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 I basically fell in love with Billie in the AI era and had a taste for the music from then on. But I became an OBSESSIVE fan when I hear Know Your Enemy on Kerrang! when they first released it last year and my dad got me 21CB album.
greendaygal89 Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 i remeber hear basket case and minority just before AI came out and i was just like wooooh these are amazing *googles* and found that AI was coming out, brought it and GD has changed my life in ways that words would never descirbe!!
Tragedy 2000 Miles Away Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 I was about 4 when I first heard Green Day. My aunt was pretty into them I remember. I think they honestly scared me, but I was four. And then I heard them a year and a half ago, when I was 12, my best friend found her parent's old Dookie album and we listened to it together. I fell in love with their music from the start. And then I realized that I knew pretty much all of their hits. And that's where it began...
Rock-man Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 it was sometime back in the nineties, friend of mine had a c-cassette called Kerplunk! and the first song on that tape was (as everybody here knows) 2000 light years away. I was blown away, copied that cassette on the spot. Still have it somewhere.
ForgottenForest Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 When I first heard about Green Day, I was still in elementary school. I remember thinking Billie was weird. When my friends and I first saw American Idiot, we loved it, but my friend's mom turned off the TV because it "wasn't appropriate".
Haniik Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 First song I heard was an American Idiot. I was like what is that? Sound really good
lawrahday Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 hmm well i heard minority and was like yeah its okay but i wasn't into music, i was still pretty young. anyways i heard american idiot and hated it before even listening to the full song, god i was shallow. i loved shakira and britney spears like crazy . thank god my brother gave me dookie and yeah since then i've been hooked.
Carnation Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 From what I remember, I really didn't think much. At the time for me, they were just another band that had some songs here and there that I liked, but I admit that I actually didn't like them. (I wasn't into them too much because when I was younger I had a love for techno)... but I guess it was like or 'rebirth' or something when my friend let me watch her BIAB dvd. I was like, "Ohhh, this is Green Day, huh?" I thought they were so epic.
SetOnOverdrive Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 I hate to sound corny and all but it was the most amazing thing I'd ever heard. I knew from that moment on that my life was in music!
Abbie Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 I'm not sure but i think the first song I heard was wmuwse... Not played by GD but covered by students from school... I really liked it though.
1039slappygirl Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 I thought they were just 3 random guys playing the same Blink-182 used to play under an odd misterious name I was so stupid and naive then
