Eighty. Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 my friend show me Green Day I didnt have internet and anything, just a couple of songs from International superhits and I thought it was cool, no one listened American music with 10 years old and less in the north of Spain so for me was something different I have never heard something like that, I started to like something that no one liked! and when i saw a picture i was like... well they look like a funny guys (?) lol after 5 or 6 months american idiot came out and it was massive I felt in fucking love and when I saw new pics they looked like a different persons I mean with a different style .. they looked better haha
E!!i Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 When I saw them for the first time I saw them in the Boulevard of Broken Dreams video but I didn't recognized them and switched the video whenever it was on. But when I listened to the radio and the song came on, my first thought was like "this sounds so awesome!" and so I wanted to watch the video and my first thought about it was "man, the singer looks very sexy :eyebrow: "
Harriet Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 I would've been about 10 when I first saw the video for American Idiot. I was listening to the song and and I was thinking "These guys think America sucks, this is awesome!" I also fell a little bit in love with Billie at first sight
marie. Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 The first song I heard was St. Jimmy right after AI came out in '04...instantly thought "Oh my god, who are these guys?!" and looked them up online. I was big into the Ramones and Blink-182, and when I found out they were influenced by the Ramones and were friends with Blink, I got more interested. Then I listened to At The Library and was hooked. I was really never a teenie...
Rosie May Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 At first I thought American Idiot was a novelty song I always used to see it on this crappy countdown show that never played entire videos. I only ever really saw the start of the video and always thought of Billie as that weird guy with the green eyes It wasn't 'til WMUWSE came out that I really got into them, though I did like BOBD and Holiday.
idiot4u Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 I'd heard and loved their music long before I saw them. When I saw them that first time, some live performance on TV, I was totally mesmerized by Billie--that spiky black hair, those uneven teeth, the smudges of black under his malikite eyes--he was this weird sort of combination of scary and sexy, but vulnerable somehow. I was hooked. I love them all, and it takes all of them to make their incredible music, but Billie just pierces my heart.

saraHsunshine Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 This is just what I have been searching for
AliceArmatage Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 The first time i heard Green Day? Well, to be truthful my big brother loved them, during the American Idiot era. I thought they were a fairly good band, but at the time were played far too much. But it took me at least 2-3 weeks to put up with them, and i started enjoying their music more. I remember my brother bringing his CD in the car on the way to holiday, wherever we went.. and we were all singing to them on the way. Obviously, with my mum being one of the boring ones and still into 80s music she just fell asleep with our tragic singing. Ahaha.
Farah Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 well i remember really liking them for basket case, minority, warning... i even got Warning and ISH! when i saw it at the store and i was only like 6/7 =) i think i got those two cause they were the only ones with pictures of them on the cover xD i was obsessed with cd's and cassette's already since i was little it's actually kinda weird to me to hear about people who didn't actually have any interest in music until an older age.. seriously. O.o but also tbh when american idiot came out i couldn't believe they were the same green day that did basket case and warning.. they looked totally different to me at the begining ahah:P (but that's also because i didn't know much about them apart from the music) but i loved american idiot straight away aswell, i always sang along to it when the advert was on tv.. i remember it used to come on also everyday after school right before the simpson's were about to start at lunch time:D The minute I first heard Boulevard of Broken Dreams (my first Green Day song) I was blown away. I fell in love with it right in that moment. It was a really special moment, and I still remember it quite vividly. I thought Green Day were "cooler" and a million times better than anything I'd ever heard. I bought American Idiot after I'd heard Holiday, and I loved the record. But I was still in elementary school. I was the lonely, most shy and girly girl ever. So when I learned a bit more about who Green Day were, it was such an extreme contrast to everything I was. I didn't tell anyone that I was into them. When I think about it they were like my "guilty pleasure". I put on the record a few times a month and tried to wrap my head around it - what it was and who they were. The only thing I knew for sure was that it was different than anything else and I loved it. After some time I realised that they were my favourite band. They were the only band I kept coming back to and never really grew bored of. For the first time in my life there were songs I never got sick of hearing. And eventually I learned more about them. Then it was a fact. I was a huge Green Day fan. Aw:D I can relate to the last paragragh. It was exactly the same thing for me too Before that i couldn't even imagine what being a "fan" of something was since i didn't love everything about something yet, until i realised my love for Green Day : D
warding_off_regrets Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 I thought they were awesome. It was 2000, and popular music was overrun by boy bands and J.Lo (I admit I was an N'SYNC fan). I saw the premiere of "Minority" on TRL, and here's this dude picking at an acoustic guitar. To me it was just so different. I was immediately hooked and have been a fan ever since
HitmonSal Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Tbh I just thought meh! I Was about 12 at the time and really ignorant about music. But when I was 14, I realised how awesome they were and that was it! They are my top fav band ever
Nimcy Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 I think the first song I ever heard was 'Basket Case' and I thought it was awesome. When I heard 'American Idiot' in 2004, I really started to listen to them! Already when I was 10 years old (became ten alomst right before the concert) I went to see them live and I thought it was amazing! <3
minority23 Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 I heard the song American Idiot, and since I was only 8, my reaction was sorta "Eww, rock band that my brother likes" I soon realized that they were the greatest band ever. I was the same way my brother liked Boulevard of Broken Dreams so I just thought that they would suck cause my brother liked them. But now I know they are the greatest band on the face of the Earth. And I can remember seeing the music video for Holiday when American Idiot came out.
basketcase33 Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 i wasn't crazy about them when i saw their music video on tv but now i really like their music
downontelegraph Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 They made me wanna throw out everything I'd ever listened to before.
Holly Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 I can't remember exactly what I thought of them, my friend and I were at an after show party and the theatre and we were only twelve, American Idiot came on. We just head banged around the stage, I think at the time we were into crappy kiddy pop music like S club and Gareth Gates and stuff. But it must've really hit me when I heard it because the next day I just started looking up everything to do with them. I got out my tape player and recorded all their songs I could find online onto tape because I didn't get pocket money or obviously have a job to pay for it and my mum wasn't going to suddenly buy me some random CD. I didn't listen to anything I'd liked as a little kid any more, took down all my posters and just started collecting everything I could find about Green Day. I don't want to even start to imagine what I'd be like now if I hadn't heard that song.
Haz Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 my older sister loved american idiot (the album) so i heard it from her playing it all the time and liked them then i kinda forgot about them. Then a few years later i was playing tony hawkes american wasteland and teenagers from mars was playing on it and i liked it and i looked up the network and realised that they were green day in disguise and then i just rediscovered green day. lovely jubbly
jenny15 Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Well, to be honest I didn't like Green Day at first! I mean the first song I've heard was "Wake me up when September ends" which has very sad lyrics, they wear eyeliner so I thought that they were emo (now that thought makes me laugh) since one (irrelevant) magazine I had said so! Then "boulevard of broken dreams" came and after that came "American idiot" and that's how I became obsessed with them!
sammykinz Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 The first Green Day song I ever heard was Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and I fell in love with it and them instantly. I begged my mother to get me American Idiot for my birthday that year (I think I was turning ten, but I'm honestly not sure), and when she did, it stayed in my CD player for about six months after that. At first, I was hesitant to drift away from anything of theirs other than that CD, but I heard When I Come Around on the radio one day, followed shortly by Minority and Brain Stew/Jaded, and I knew I was in it with this band for more than one record. xD They're so amazing and they mean the world to me, and although there are a lot of other bands I love, they'll always be my favorite. <3
_cigarettes&valentines Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 I liked them but only in secret cos I was like ten and they weren't rap/rnb so they were not cool.
Conspiracy. Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 I don't even remember anymore what I first thought about Green Day. But I definitely didn't fall in love with them instantly. I think I first thought they were another shitty mainstream band, cause BOBD was on the radio all the time. Then I got American Idiot, and the rest of the story is just It's funny to read that so many of you got into GD because they thought Billie was hot. Cause I didn't even realize that at first.
swarjona Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 I was fascinated...I remember the first song I heard was Basket Case when I was 10 ...and I was like " Wow, that sounds amazing" .. at that time I didn't speak that much English yet but I wanted to know what these guys with the incredible music where talking about.. so since then I have absorbed everything I ever heard about them and I absolutely adore them.... Thanks to them, my friends call me crazy because I think in English...they kind of made it to my first language <3
GreenDayisAmazing Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 As soon as I heard them I knew I loved them!!! =D They are amazing!!!
