What Did You First Think of Green Day

I'm pretty sure the first time I heard Green Day was when I saw the video for Basket Case sometime in 2002/03 and I immediatly loved the song. I was young back then and didn't even know what google was and it never occured to me that the band could have a CD...(hey, I was only about 7 years old!), but it still ended up on my ipod a few years later. Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Holiday became my anthems after I first heard them, and I did end up buying AI, but I couldn't sit still long enough to listen to it :whistle however, Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Holiday ended up on my ipod along with American Idiot and Wake Me Up When Septmeber Ends. Again, it never occured to me that Green Day could have other CD's... :pinch: I liked Know Your Enemy when it came out and again it ended up on my Ipod. the first time I heard 21 Guns was when I saw the music video, I didn't really know what to think of it at first, but after a few more listens I fell in love with.

Last year I also had a goal to watch all the award shows 'cause I always seemed to miss out on something when I didn't watch them, so I ended up watching the VMA's... I payed attention to Green Day because of 21 Guns and was very happy when they won. Then they performed. I used to hate live performances 'cause the only one's that I had heard were either horrible or lip-synched, so when I saw Green Day performing this song 100% live and sounding GOOD I had to look them up. I found some of their songs and immediatly loved them. and proceeded to get all their CD's.

Also, when I went to look what songs I had on my Ipod by them I found out Good Riddance was on there... I have no idea when I heard that song too

... that was longer than I had planned, oh well :P

I remember hearing Welcome to Paradise on the radio and thinking "wow, this song is really awesome. Who is it by? I can't understand the singer at all..."

I had heard When I Come Around on the radio when I was little, but I never knew it was Green Day, I just really liked how catchy it was. Then I started hearing all sorts of songs from American Idiot everywhere, and I really liked those songs too. I kinda got into Green Day a little bit, then completely forgot about them until 21st Century Breakdown came out, then I really got into Green Day fan-mode.

I also remember my first impression of the boys when I saw this picture of them (which was the first picture of them I'd ever seen)

I thought that Tre was cute, Mike looked cool, and Billie was creepy

The first time I hear their songs was when I was like 10 years old I think or even younger. And one of then was 'Warning'' of course I didnt knew that they were GD, I remember everytime when I hear that song I was like mm what a beautiful voice, at that time I didnt know much english. I wasnt into music so much, but that capture my attention, I just remember that whenever I hear a song with that particular voice I was always thinking mm surprisinly I like that song, yet dont know the name of the band obviously.

Eventually when american idiot came out, I loved AI of course. And I started to research then I found out that a bunch of song that I used to hear once in a while when I was a kid in the radio, were written by then. I was like OMG what a fuckin coincidence.

I ussually dont get like tide up with something or feel something about anything haha as bad as it sound XD. But the incredible thing is that Green Day, woke up those things in me, even when I was a child and I didnt like any kind of music gd still capture my attention without knowing who they were. So I always though that it was a signal or something like that. :P

First song I heard was Time of Your Life, never met anyone who didn't love that song. Got the single on tape with Time of your Life and Desensitized on it and have been obsessed since.

I spent the early years of my life wishing Green Day would die. I HATED them. I didn't even know any of their music, I just knew they were punks and I didn't like anything loud or fast.

I'm a changed person.

When I first heard them, I didn't really know what punk was. I knew heaps of songs by them, which I found out after I got into them, but at that time I just knew American Idiot and Time of Your Life. I was looking through records at a shop near my house, and I was looking in the "Punk/emo" section for a band I like, and saw that Green Day was there and was just like "What the fuck? Green Day isn't punk!!' But then I got more into them and found out what punk actually is.

First video/song I ever saw was Blvd of Broken Dreams. Loved the song and thought that lead singer of theirs was freaking hot... (I also thought that he was about 17, seriously). And when I got American Idiot and finally learned their names, I thought they had the best names ever.

I guess I fell in love with them right away, I don't really know what motivated me into buying American Idiot, but I did. Best decision of my life. :) I was twelve years old and in grade seven.

I can't remember my first Green Day song honestly..

But my brother became a Green Day fan 5 or 6 years ago.. So I heard a lot of songs, but music didn't bother me at that age of 11. I liked the songs but that was it. And of course, you can't like something what your brother likes at that age. Well that's what I thought.. :P

But at the age of 13 their music got my attention, and I fell in love with the songs and the band. I was hopeless "in love" with Billie Joe. Everybody ran away when I started another story about him. xD I think it was just my age.. A lot of people "fell in love" with famous people at that age. And Green Day was -and still is- the world to me. So, yeah.

And I'm still a hug fan now. (:

Ahh American Idiot was big when I was a wee 7/8 year old. And my 9/10 year old cousin started 'growing up' and watching the music channels like the big kids do, so when I was at his house and AI came on I'd be like 'ahh i like this one' even though I would have heard it like 2 times. I didn't even know who it was by :P

My first Green Day song was when I was about 7 & it was American Idiot. & I fell in love with them straight away.

Eventhough American Idiot is one of the songs I try to avoide the most, I am incredibly thankful for it!

I remember my sister was sitting in the living room watching TV and i walked in and American Idiot music video was on and my sister said about really likeing the song and i recognised it too and also agreed it was good and then obsession ensued.

I don't remember actually

It happened about 6 years ago..I just remember the first song-BOBD and the first vid-Holiday.I was just like "Wow,I've never heard anything like that before"

Their songs were so close to my feelings..well,they still are

The first time I saw the video for BOBD I was 12 (5 years ago) and I hated it!! I made fun of Billies eyeliner and everything...I was like oh poor baby, I'm guessing you're trying to look sad? I've since changed my thoughts...lol BOBD is a good green day video.

Whoops but that wasn't my first look on green Day.....I think I just felt good inside....my camp counselor dude was play good riddance on guitar when I was 9 and i fell in love.

I was told that when I was really young, my mom would play Green Day for me and my sister and we would both dance to the music. But when I was really introduced to them (about five years ago) and saw BOBD music video for the very first time, I thought Billie looked scary with all the eyeliner on. But it didnt take long for me to fall in love with them and obsess over them. :D

They basically voiced what I was feeling. Plus they opened my eyes to a world of non-conformity and awesomeness.

I owe Green Day everything and I do not mind one bit! :)

They scared me shitless. I mean they wrote songs that criticized America... and that had a lot of cursing... and by God I just knew they probably had had premarital sex and did drugs.

It was way too much for a sheltered Southern Baptist 14-year-old girl to take in, but holy shit did I love it.

This. Before Green Day I was a conformist wannabe, Green Day made me realize it's okay to be a total absolute weirdo/loser and that doesn't mean you're not going anywhere. When I first heard of Green Day I heard my mom and dad arguing over something my dad had bought and wanted to show me. I walked in and saw that he had AI in his hand. He eventually convinced my mom to let me listen to some of the clean songs. At first I thought it was lame (as any kid thinks of something their parents show them) but I came around and now I don't think I'll ever ever ever get enough :D

In seventh grade (2004) I was one of those freaks addicted to Neopets. I used to go on their forums often, post, etc. When American Idiot was hyped up that year, everyone on the Neopets forum made boards about Green Day. At the time, I'd never heard any of their music, and all of their hype annoyed me, so I hated Green Day for a while (for poor reasoning). However, I started listening them when I got cable TV in 2005 when I discovered VH1 one morning and it was like instant love. I got over my hatred pretty fast.
