I know, I was quite young and wasn't into music. I didn't appreciate AI like I do now

Haha, I used to listen to Madonna and Kylie Minogue. I was a lame kid.

Devil emoticon fail.

I hated them for years. Then I started to like the music, but I didn't want to look at their music videos or anything because I thought they looked so weird. :ermm: Then I just kind of fell in love with them...

When I first heard them I was like, "hmm... that's a funny name." But I thought they were amazing, and I went onto youtube and just listened to them straight for days. And after begging my parents, they took me out to k-mart to get a cd. I got International Superhits. I also thought that Billie was god-like and that he had to be 20, not 30 like he was.

My friends started to play Boulevard of Broken Dreams in their car a lot. At first I didn't like it at all. At that time I was into 70's rock (Led Zeppelin, The Who, Rolling Stones etc.) then I heard it some more and started to love the song. Then I looked them up, bought AI and fell in love.

Well, when I first heard them, I had just finished fighting with my mom over something so I was crying a lot and that's when Boulevard of Broken Dreams came on and for a minute, I literally could not speak. I just fell in love right away with them. Everything in the song was perfect. You could say I've been hooked ever since.

love. I was introduced to them via radio, so only after hearing the song (and falling absolutely in love with it) I looked up who they were (I only knew a couple lines from the song I heard. Wake Me Up When September ends   ) and such. And after looking the song up, the first video I saw was Walking Contradiction and I thought it was awesome  And then I started looking up interviews and such (and a lot of music, too. and every tiny bit of information I could find :ninja:) and thought they were funny, I really didn't think about how Green Day is kind of a funny/weird band name (and because of that it still sounds very normal to me, not weird) or how they looked and stuff like that till I found GDC xD

I think there is a bit of an emoticon overload in this post.

American Idiot was the first GD album I had listened to. At first, I was really shocked because they were so loud and fast. Actually this was not the type of music I was listening to back then. But then I repeated the first song and started to like it. And this is how it began ... :D

I think I'm the only person that didn't like them at first. I listened mostly to Broadway and soundtracks and classical, softer music, so they were WAY out of my boundaries. I started working into rock music band by band, and my sister gave me a copy of American Idiot 'cause I'd heard WMUWSE at a Hard Rock Cafe and sort of liked it. But when I listened to AI I wasn't impressed. I started listening to it more and more though, and it slowly started growing on me. I remember being on a trip with my dad and listening to it in the car, then I went and bought Kerplunk because I liked their sound, but It wasn't until about 3 months later when my family was vacationing up in Washington DC, and the politics were everywhere that I started falling in love with their music. I realized that they were saying everything I had been thinking for the past 5 years, and instantly found a 'home' in their music. Now, they are my biggest inspiration, and they are what keep me going.

i liked them after the first time i heard American Idiot which was the first song i've heard from them. i was like 11 or 12

i thought Billie was from England because it sounded like he had a british accent to me

Idk what age I was but I was really young when I first heard them stuff from Dookie, But for some weird reason I thought Green Day and Blink 182 were the same band( now I don't think they even sound alike really). In 7th grade there was this really mean girl but I loved her bag it had Green Day patches all over it. for 8th grade the song we used for graduation was Good Riddance i really started to notice them alot. in 9th grade in 2004-2005 i heard songs from Amercan Idiot and became a huge fan and I love them even more now!!!!!

I fell in love with them right away. Holiday was the first song I heard by them on purpose, I listened to it on repetae for like one week straight, I was crazy. Haha.

After that I watched the AI video and also loved that to bits, then I tried to get every tiny piece of information I could find, whether interviews, videos or magazine artciles. I remember the first time I looked their names up, I was really confused because I thought they had such strange names. (Well, they kinda do.) I also thought I'd never be able to know them by heart but well that was bullshit. ^^

It also took me a while to realize that I listened to Boulevard of Broken dreamd like 39653 times before, I just never knew who the band was...

ok I hate admitting this, but for the longest time I thought they were uncreative pop music that everybody liked, and swore never to listen to them XD even worse, the first song of theirs I liked was "Wake me Up When September Ends" (just because it was a radio single!!!)

And now I'm a crazy fan. Glad I finally had some sense XD

First time I heard them was when I got American idiot for Christmas '05 and it was love at first sight

At first I didn't like them. Every time American Idiot played, the song or the video, I changed channel. But one day, one of my friend, who had the album, gave me one of her earphone so I could listen to the funny/strange voice at the beginning of Letterbomb that I got interested into Green Day. I heard the beginning of Letterbomb and it made me want to know more about this band. I bought American Idiot in April 2005 and listened it all summer long. I knew every song by heart and since I didn't have Internet at home, each I went to the library, I was doing some research to learn more about this band. Within 2 years, I had all their albums, but I had missed the chance to see them live. Now, I've seen them once last summer and I won't miss the next show.

I loved them instantly. I was hooked at the first sound of the guitar in Extraordinary Girl.

PLEASE DO NOT HATE ME

But in all honesty, I couldnt stand American Idiot when I heard it first  Probably because it was being played ALOT. And I was 12/13 and trying to be all cool and hate songs that were being played alot

I came to my senses though :D It was my mom who bought American Idiot for her CD collection first  But she gave it to me soon after cause I was so obsessed

And now, in June, I am going to lie to my parents about my whereabouts for 5 days, just to see them

Well when I was 5 and heard When I Come Around on the radio my mom and I LOVED it!!!

When I was older and actually saw the American Idiot video I LOVED it!!! I couldn't believe this was the same band from my childhood

The first song I heard from them was probably Good Riddance (Time of Your Life), but I didn't know who played it at that time. I just loved the song. Then, I rediscovered it just in time for AI to be released and became obsessed. :3

I thought they were a piece of shit.

JUST KIDDING. :P I didn't even know who they were at first, or the names of their songs, but every time I heard that voice on the radio, I was overwhelmed. It was like heroin for me. I can't even remember what song I first heard, because I wasn't paying attention at that time. Kind of a bummer. But I DO know the first picture I ever saw of them.

My first reaction: WHOA, that guy is WHITE.:lol:

I heard them first around nimrod, probally good riddance or hitchin a ride. I liked those songs but It wasn't till warning came out though that I bought my first green day album. I loved waiting and minority (probally cause it had an Irish feel to it) I thought that album was so great I went and bought all their previous albums. Warning is still my favourite album but I do like everything they have released to date.

The minute I first heard Boulevard of Broken Dreams (my first Green Day song) I was blown away. I fell in love with it right in that moment. It was a really special moment, and I still remember it quite vividly. I thought Green Day were "cooler" and a million times better than anything I'd ever heard.

I bought American Idiot after I'd heard Holiday, and I loved the record. But I was still in elementary school. I was the lonely, most shy and girly girl ever. So when I learned a bit more about who Green Day were, it was such an extreme contrast to everything I was. I didn't tell anyone that I was into them. When I think about it they were like my "guilty pleasure". I put on the record a few times a month and tried to wrap my head around it - what it was and who they were. The only thing I knew for sure was that it was different than anything else and I loved it.

After some time I realised that they were my favourite band. They were the only band I kept coming back to and never really grew bored of. For the first time in my life there were songs I never got sick of hearing. And eventually I learned more about them. Then it was a fact. I was a huge Green Day fan.

this
