I didn't like them at first, always turned off tv when AI video was on  I thought they were freaks and the name was weird. Well, I was actually right except I love them now :D

The minute I first heard Boulevard of Broken Dreams (my first Green Day song) I was blown away. I fell in love with it right in that moment. It was a really special moment, and I still remember it quite vividly. I thought Green Day were "cooler" and a million times better than anything I'd ever heard.

I bought American Idiot after I'd heard Holiday, and I loved the record. But I was still in elementary school. I was the lonely, most shy and girly girl ever. So when I learned a bit more about who Green Day were, it was such an extreme contrast to everything I was. I didn't tell anyone that I was into them. When I think about it they were like my "guilty pleasure". I put on the record a few times a month and tried to wrap my head around it - what it was and who they were. The only thing I knew for sure was that it was different than anything else and I loved it.

After some time I realised that they were my favourite band. They were the only band I kept coming back to and never really grew bored of. For the first time in my life there were songs I never got sick of hearing. And eventually I learned more about them. Then it was a fact. I was a huge Green Day fan.

I first heard basket case when my brother played it but didn't really like it. It all took off for me during american idiot so when I was 15, like someone else said, I just liked mainstream pop stuff but when I heard american idiot I loved it and brought the album and not looked back since. oh and I love basket case now!

All I knew of the band for years was the Basket Case video. I liked it and found the lead singer's face fascinating , that was it. Then when Warning came out somebody who loved Green Day tried to convince me that they were amazing but I didn't listen. I just assumed they were like Blink 182 or something and forgot about them again.

But the strangest change in how I viewed the band was because of the internet. When I became a fan with AI I didn't have internet access - all I had was the music, BIAB, Storytellers and a few magazines. When I got the internet and saw SO many videos on youtube it changed my perception of them a lot. I realized they were much dirrrrtier than I'd thought and could be much rougher round the edges and funnier. It felt like before I'd only seen one side of the band and it made me realize that they're now promoted in a very polished, cleaned up way. I was very glad to finally see all sides of them :D

I thought "that's an odd name for a band".

But I thought Boulevard of Broken Dreams was petty awesome. And I subsequently became obsessed with it, and the rest of the American Idiot album. After that I bought all their other albums.

I also remember when I first bought Dookie, and I wondered if they were British (you know how people sometimes say Billie had sort of a fake English accent)

i remember seeing the american idiot music video on tv, all the green paint and stuff. i thought the green paint had to do with the band name....lol

i thought billie was HOTTT when i first saw him. i remember finding out that hes married and has kids and i was like WHATTTTTT hhahah

lol I didn't care for them probably, I was into Spice Girls and all that... so I don't remember when I first listened to them, but must have been when I was like 6/7, since my dad had Dookie.

BUt then, when I was like 15 I started listening to them gradually, I don't remember so well... But I remember thinking they were so much better than the other bands on mtv I heard, and the song I remember watching over and over again on MTV was Working Class Hero <3, I thought they were so sweet and powerful at the same time, I fell in love with Billie's voice (well, not only his voice)...So I started looking for them on my dad's music collection =D

Also, I didn't have internet... When I got my computer and internet access from shcool, Everything changed, I found GDA, started watching videos, saving photos... I though they were like, the best thing ever!! ... and yes, they are!

When I first heard American Idiot, I thought they were okay, nothing special. I remember saying that Billie was really cute, though. :P

A few weeks later my sister introduced me to the rest of that album and their old stuff and I loved it all. Every single bit. <333

I sort of eased myself into them, I listened to AI loads of times before I realised I liked it. Then I heard KYE, and it was only the very first moment I heard 21 Guns that I knew that I loved this band :D

My best friend Lauren, when we were both nine years old (2002), she used to play their albums in her room all the time. She was the first song I heard, followed by Good Riddance and Welcome to Paradise. It basically kicked off from there, I loved them straight away, they were something different, they amazed me - Even when I'd only heard a few songs. And as I got older the love just grew, especially when I saw their music on a more personal level.

I heard Minority in 2000, didn't like it that much, I listened rather to Blink 182 that time. Then in autumn 2004 I heard American Idiot, didn't think it was that good, though I remember liking the video. But then Christmas 04 I heard American Idiot again, and I played it on repeat like 20 times, I was so addicted. From there it started. What a difference 4 months can make :D. I was 13 back then, so quick changes in opinion are possible.

I've never let go of Green Day since (in contrast to other bands e.g. Blink 182, which I only listen to in small doses because it becomes too repetitive)

and i thought billie was hott

You still do, missy.

Yeah, I already downloaded some Green Day songs in 2004/2005 but I never searched for more songs of them. I know I was obsesed with Wake Me Up When September Ends when it came out, I listened to that song non-stop xD

But I really became addicted when I heard Know Your Enemy

I first heard Wake Me Up When September Ends and I thought the singer's voice was amazing. I thought they were very old though, kind of reminded me of The Rolling Stones (Not music-wise) . I was never much into music before, kind of listened to everything and nothing but when I discovered that song, I put it on repeat for weeks. It took me quite a while to check out their other stuff and I didn't know what they looked like till about a year later when I decided to check them on wikipedia (which at that time was new to me too..)

Haha

Actually, the first time I heard Green Day was with their collaboration with U2. I used to love them, haha. I never paid attention to Billie's part, though. Idek. I was lame.

If I remember correctly, I think I thought they were too punk. But then I really started to listen to their music and see the videos and I was hooked. And have been ever since.

But I was way later than you though. I think it was ... May '09 that I heard American Idiot and fell in love gradually.
