Hello song of the week! I never visit you enough. The thing that comes to mind for me about American Idiot as well as all the songs off the album is the statement/question that Jordan Roth asked BJA for me at the 92nd Street Y event.

The arrangements that Tom Kitt did for the musical has completely changed the way I hear AI and the entire album in my head. I wanted to ask BJA if its the same for him. His response is that for him it is two different animals which I thought was interesting cause for me, I hear the AI cast version in my head exclusively now (as well as picture the choreography along with it.)

One of my all time favorites.

Don't want to be an American idot.

Don't want a nation under the new media

And can you hear the sound of hysteria?

The subliminal mind fuck America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.

All across the alien nation.

Where everything isn't meant to be okay.

Television dreams of tomorrow.

We're not the ones who're meant to follow.

For that's enough to argue.

Well maybe I'm the faggot America.

I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.

Now everybody do the propaganda.

And sing along to the age of paranoia.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.

All across the alien nation.

Where everything isn't meant to be okay.

Television dreams of tomorrow.

We're not the ones who're meant to follow.

For that's enough to argue.

Don't want to be an American idot.

One nation controlled by the media.

Information age of hysteria.

It's calling out to idot America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.

All across the alien nation.

Where everything isn't meant to be okay.

Television dreams of tomorrow.

We're not the ones who're meant to follow.

For that's enough to argue.

The lyrics really speak to me. Just an amazing song

This was the first Green Day song I heard. My brother sang Wake Me Up When September Ends before but this was the first time had the studio version of a Green Day song. The only song I like more is Boulevard of Broken Dreams. When I realized what it meant as I grew up, it helped me discover my liberal political views. I got the CD for American Idiot a while ago and it's one of the first CDs I've ever owned and it's my favorite CD ever. I've listened to it millions of times. This song and BOBD I owe to my music tastes.

Also, when people say that Green Day wasn't punk on American Idiot and on, this song and a few others can prove them wrong.

It is, in the words of my father, an iconic song with an iconic video. I believe it will be played on radio stations and music channels for decades to come and I will use it as a means to educate my children about Green Day's history and all the other music that meant something to me...
