Sadly, it wasn't a joke. But he was only answering a random question like a year ago about who he'd like to play them if a movie was ever made. It had nothing to do with this project and he was just answering off the top of his head. So I wouldn't be too worried.

I think Tom Hanks' production company only produced Mamma Mia and I'm pretty sure that would be the case for American Idiot. So even though Tom Hanks is producing, someone else is probably going to be directing.

Wow! that would be amazing! A movie of AI!!!! yeah I like this idea, and Hanks is a great actor and he knows what he does.

But I really hope the movie will be true to the spirit of GD album and thoughts, with the right atmosphere etc etc.

I believe that Lou Taylor Pucci (the Jimmy of Jesus Of Suburbia) should act as Jimmy in the movie. It'd be PERFECT!
