Nobody_Likes_You Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 They better make a film out of American Idiot and not a film of the musical... I love Tom Hanks though...
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 According to NME Tom Hanks might have Julia Roberts lined up to play a lead role. NME link Julia Roberts. I'm curious as to how that will turn out. If it follows the album storyline, there is only one lead role, being Whatsername ... oh nevermind, according to the article it's an adaption of the stage play. well, let's hope that if Julia is indeed in there she will be the pregnant girlfriend (although that's not much of a lead role....), and not Whatsername. Julia Roberts as Whatsername, I can only see that being a disaster, or well, I don't see that being something good. She's just not someone to play someone like Whatsername, in my eyes.
Sara. Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 The selling out arguement will always be there from critics. I think its just pure ambition to succeed in things outside of there comfort zone. My only fear is that if this film was made and it bombed, people might remember American Idiot as a failed musical movie rather than an album that was/is a masterpiece. On the other hand if the film is made and it is good, American Idiot may be regarded as a masterpiece by people who wouldn't usually listen to Green Day's music too According to NME Tom Hanks might have Julia Roberts lined up to play a lead role. NME link that's so true. This could either be a huge success or a huge fail.
Alan86 Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 "go for it, just don't fuck it up!" Hmm...Julia Roberts as Whatsername? How many tattoos does she have and where are they? :eyebrow: Thats exactly what i think too. At least 13 tattoes, ill let you draw your own conlusions on where they should be
Conspiracy. Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Don't know what to think about it. And eeew Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts I just hope it's not going to be such a cheesy drama thing, whatever.
Alan86 Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 This is supposed to be about young people growin up today. I dont see how Julia Roberts fits the description for a lead role
farley drexel hatcher Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 I think people are missing the point. He wants (apparently) to turn the musical into a movie. Not the album itself. It'd probably have nothing at all in common with the JOS video because they're two totally different interpretations.
ParadoxAndPlaid Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 When I heard about the possibility of a movie I was worried; There is so many ways to mess up a Musical-movie and I was like, 'oh no how will they transfer stage to screen, can it be done without being tacky like so many musicals turned movies have been, I don't want that to happen. It'd be too sad if it flopped' But I really want all the fans everywhere to have a chance to see the show. Now that I know Tom Hanks is the one behind it I'm almost sure it's in good hands. I'm looking forward to whatever news come next. let's hope Warner won't get in the way.
green-day1972 Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 that will be cool but two questions : there will be the same actors as American Idiot Musical ? Billie Joe , Mike and Tré will be in the movie?? Okay nobody knows but I want to know ! ><
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Lmao, it would be awesome if Billie, Mike and Tre are in it looking at the small amount of acting they've done and the quality of it, that would be hilarious not gonna happen though, or it would HIGHLY surprise me
Jaymee!! Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 I don't even know what to say about this... Cast Taylor Lou Pucci as JOS and Kelli Garner as Whatsername (just like in the JOS music video) and chances are... I'd love it. Agreed. Tom Hanks, ya cool man. Ya cool
ParadoxAndPlaid Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 I think the whole Julia Roberts thing is nonsense. It's not that I don't like her, she's a great actress I just think the role should be given to somebody younger. since the characters are all supposedly relatively young adults. I honestly think that article is just NME making up crazy stories with A little bit of truth and a whole lot of crap Like they often do.
Agija Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 I'd love to see it if they really made American Idiot into a movie. I don't know whether I'd like it or not, but it would be quite cool, anyway.
poisonoak Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 i kinda want to see more of a story line happening than another musical, change it up a bit idk...
GoodRiddanceGE Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 That message just made my day. I think it´s awesome! So many people (like me) won´t get the chance to see the musical live on broadway. This sort of reminds me of West Side Story. I can´t really say why. Probably it´s because they´ve once shown us a movie adaption of it in school.
Bastard of 1967 Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Lmao, it would be awesome if Billie, Mike and Tre are in it looking at the small amount of acting they've done and the quality of it, that would be hilarious not gonna happen though, or it would HIGHLY surprise me Tre couldn't stick to a script if his life depended on it....put him on stage (ESPECIALLY next to "straight-man" Mike) and he's a loose cannon. I would HATE having to try to direct him. Gotta love him for that tho!
Kayfabe Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 *want* Not all of us can live near Berkeley or Broadway, but there's an Odeon just down my road
PasalacquaBomb Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 It's quite a good idea, I think, but I'd like to have a film of the actual album not of the musical.
