The Disappearing Boy Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 interesting. don't really know what to think.
Moxy Crimefighter Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Hi My Name is Lucy, and I have just died and gone to Little Lucy heaven.
Juliette Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Interesting... could work pretty well. I got really confused by the first line, something about Playtone wanting to turn it into a film, and Playtone is the name of my mate's band
HoneyDo666 Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 The last good movie musical I've seen was Sweeney Todd. Tim Burton's a genius, I watch Sweeney all the time! If it's anything like that, I'm in!
Katarina. Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Interesting. I don't really know what to think of this. They should at least cast Lou Taylor Pucci as JOS again. <3 I'd rather have HLAHG than an AI movie tbh. But let's see how this turns out!
Alan86 Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Well If Tom Hanks is going to be involved Green Day should insist that the song Castaway gets added to the musical
farley drexel hatcher Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 I imagine it would basically be the musical without much changed. But then you think of Mamma Mia, which Tom Hanks produced (or at least had something to do with) and that does have dialogue and whatnot, so maybe they'd add a bit more to it for the screen and still keep to musical for the most part. Just some talk between songs, maybe. Who knows, I think it could be great, though
Harinezumi Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 They should at least cast Lou Taylor Pucci as JOS again. <3 This, LOL. Anyway, I like the idea of a movie. But I haven't seen Mamma Mia, I'm into old stuff like My Fair Lady and Cabaret. I've had the dvd for months, but I'm too scared to watch it, I saw the trailer and it looked absolutely horrible. I used to like ABBA when I was a kid and I don't want them to ruin the songs for me, even though I rarely listen to them anymore. I'd probably wait until the majority of GD fans had seen the film, and then decide whether I wanna see it or not. I have nothing against Tom Hanks, but I'd prefer someone who really understands the whole 'punk' thing if you know what I mean.
Marie_GD Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 I think the best would be a movie more like the JOS video, the script should take the album literally and green day's orignal recordgins should be used as the soundtrack. not a musical movie.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 I think the best would be a movie more like the JOS video, the script should take the album literally and green day's orignal recordgins should be used as the soundtrack. not a musical movie. Although on the one side that sounds good, I think that would ruin the way American Idiot is an album you can interpret in many ways, so if a movie was made I'd prefer it to follow the musical's script. Which then would also work out nicely as a consolation for not being able to go to the actual musical, or at least something like that.
Anja Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 I don't know what to think of this. When news about a AI movie came out in 2005, I was super excited cause I really wanted to see the album made into a movie. I'm not sure what I think now. If he sticks with the original storyline and doesn't change too much about it, I'd probably like it. And I can actually see this work. Would want to see this with Pucci and Garner though. I think the best would be a movie more like the JOS video, the script should take the album literally and green day's orignal recordgins should be used as the soundtrack. not a musical movie. my thoughts exactly. Personally, I would want to be it more JoS style, not musical style.
petros Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 I'm not very sure about that move because I think that I'd really like to see the AI story in a movie but on the other side everyone will say tha green day have become commercial a band that does things just to get money...like many other pop artists...
Marie_GD Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 in the whole "it would be great for people who can't see the musical" I'd raher they release a DVD of the musical on stage.
Vaso.Of.Suburbia Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 hmmmmmm...... great! i hope the news are real!
Sara. Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 wow I hadn't expected something like this. I think it could be pretty cool.
Alan86 Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 The selling out arguement will always be there from critics. I think its just pure ambition to succeed in things outside of there comfort zone. My only fear is that if this film was made and it bombed, people might remember American Idiot as a failed musical movie rather than an album that was/is a masterpiece. On the other hand if the film is made and it is good, American Idiot may be regarded as a masterpiece by people who wouldn't usually listen to Green Day's music too According to NME Tom Hanks might have Julia Roberts lined up to play a lead role. link
matteo263 Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 i like the idea. green day will get more widespread than ever!
Tubbie Head Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 my thoughts exactly. Personally, I would want to be it more JoS style, not musical style. uhh no.. I hate that video.

NME link My response to someone who argues that anyone (Green Day or otherwise) is "selling out" is that there's a difference between selling out and cashing in. In our favorite band's case, these guys have busted their collective asses for more than 20 years to get where they are now, and if a world-class actor and producer thinks that one of their best albums can be spun into a feature-length movie (musical or drama or otherwise), then I say: "go for it, just don't fuck it up!" Which I think goes right to your next point. Hmm...Julia Roberts as Whatsername? How many tattoos does she have and where are they? :eyebrow:
