Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 2013, that's 9 years after it was released... well, unless it's really more of the musical, so with the 21stCB songs too, then it's only been 4 years.
Tubbie Head Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 if it's anything like Across the Universe... I DO NOT WANT!!! I do.. That's my favourite film musical ever
farley drexel hatcher Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Everything below is various tid bits from IMDBpro. Now, as I stated above, it's been OPTIONED by Playtone (Tom Hanks) who now has the right for whatever time was agreed upon to make the film or not. For a full theatrical release, it must be picked up by a major distributor. Per the agreement with Playtone and Universal, Universal has first right of passage. I know people at Universal and know there is a high level of interest. If Universal declines, Playtone can go to anyone they want. One is that Tom Hanks and Playtone have paid money to Billie Joe for the rights to make the movie (if they want too). It is not definite that it will be made, and if it is, whether it will be a major theatrical release, straight to DVD, or not even made at all. It is in about as early as pre-production and development as you can get. There is no script written even. That 2013 date is just a projection which at the moment is not based on much. Thanks for posting, that is really interesting. Who knows if it will ever see the light of day, but at least we know it's being thought about. Billie Joe must be pretty humbled to see his name as the writer and creator of a movie - wheather it gets made or not.
HoneyDo666 Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 I'm a Sweeney Todd girl...I it! Tim Burton should be hired for this!
cris_spain Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 I was just freaking out when I read that. He would pass to the History for me if he does that

Katarina. Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 ^ I wouldn't call myself a fan, but I like Tim Burton's movies. I've seen Alice in 3D IMAX, and I LOVED it. It would be awesome if Tim Burton directed the AI movie xD
Armstump Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Tim Burton will be the best director! This news is on the Dutch MTV! One of my friends saw it.. On MTV movie Buzz or something like that.
Katarina. Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 I hadn't thought of that but your right, he would be good for it. Then the chances of depp being st. Jimmy would exist. You are a fan. You like Alice, sweeny, and I am sure you like nightmare before Christmas, edward scissor hands, beetlejuice, pee wees bog adventure, sleepy hollow, corse bride, mars attacks. The man is a genius. EDIT: I thought I was responding to Honeydo666....She said she was a "Sweeny Todd girl". Yeah, but OMG Johnny Depp as st. Jimmy? No. Just no xD I like most of the movies you mentioned though. I think you can say I'm an "Edward Scissor Hands girl"

Lotte Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 What'd it say? Uhm, that Tom Hanks already made the movie Mama Mia (I guess? xD) which was a big success. And that Julia Roberts probably would get a part in the AI movie

Homicidal_llama Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Wait. Tom Hanks directed Mama Mia? I really have no idea where people are getting the idea that Tom Hanks directed Mama Mia. The guy had absolutely nothing to do with that film! He's a great actor, produced and director so he could easily pull it off. I doubt he'd direct though, probably just produce... Tim Burton should be hired for this! No, no, no and NO! Tim Burton is such a bland director. I enjoy his films for what they are which is all the same. His style is cool and everything but if he made this movie it would just end up looking like Nightmare Before Christmas which is definately not the kind of images I'd associate with this music at all. We need someone who can produce gritty, down and dirty imagery and not some over the top gothic schtick. We want more Quadrophenia, less Alice in Wonderland. With the right cast, director and style this could be a great production but it could easily go off the rails if all these are chosen wrongly and even the music couldn't save it then.
Bubbles. Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 I think it would be awesome if it was turned into a film, I just don't think that Tom Hanks is the person to do it... But who knows. Moxy Crimefighter Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 If Quentin Tarantino and Tim Burton both collaborated on this with Michael mayer somehow, I'd be in heaven. If they adapt this, they should keep the musicals original cast.
Angie-Marie Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 I really have no idea where people are getting the idea that Tom Hanks directed Mama Mia. The guy had absolutely nothing to do with that film! He's a great actor, produced and director so he could easily pull it off. I doubt he'd direct though, probably just produce... The only thing Tom Hanks had to do with Mamma Mia is that his production company made it, I'm pretty sure it'd be the same deal for American Idiot.
EuropeanIdiot Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 To be honest, I don't care who does it, as long as it's awesome.
Homicidal_llama Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 If Quentin Tarantino and Tim Burton both collaborated on this with Michael mayer somehow, I'd be in heaven. You'd also get an absolutely appalling movie.
