PleasedToMeetMe Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I highly doubt it's anything Network or Tubbies related, or I don't think they'd be telling us that they're doing it. All I gotta say is this definatly sounds promising! That's so cool about using the Kerplunk equipment, Billie had such a cool guitar tone back then, I wonder why it wouldnt work any more?? Id love to hear GD go back to their roots as much as I love the new stuff. Im not saying trying to be punk, cuz that would be lame, but go back and fuck around with that 39 Smooth/Kerplunk sound. I wanna hear something along the lines of World vs World or Christie Road. I think the boys have the right idea!
Maddy. Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 People, listen. They said they used the old shizz to see what it sounded like, and it was shit. It was a laugh. This does not mean they're going back to Kerplunk era.
norcalgreendayfan Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 That's pretty awesome that the guys are busy there working on demos already. They sure like to put their noses to te grindstone while they got ideas to work on. I suppose this means we can expect an album within the next 2-3 years or so unless the demo work goes missing again
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 People, listen. They said they used the old shizz to see what it sounded like, and it was shit. It was a laugh. This does not mean they're going back to Kerplunk era. I didn't see anyone implying that?
Metanoia Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Ohh yeah, now that would be GOOD think so too but i highly doubt it tubbies XD
Maddy. Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I didn't see anyone implying that? v also, that this time, its gonna be a whole new different sound! ... not another rock opera ... It would be interesting to hear songs like 21cb and Jesus of suburbia played with the kerplunk gear. I think it would be cool if they did a new album with the old gear too. I would do anything to hear those songs recorded with the old equipment! Katarina. Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I didn't see anyone implying that? Me neither. EDIT: ^Hmm.. interesting.
TheBullwinkle Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 If they don't finish a new album by the end of 2011, we'll never hear a new GD song again. D:
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 v Of all those quotes only the first says anything about changing the sounds (only about that it would be cool, but that's not a first or anything, people say that all the time), but that doesn't mention anything about that thought being thought because they tried the old gear out again.
PleasedToMeetMe Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Im just saying that I think Green Day are getting tired of the whole rock opera bigger than life thing and are looking to do something different, and I think an album that hints a little more at passed GD than the last couple records is definatly in the works. I mean, 21CBD had some hints of Nimrod and Warning, and I think whatever they release next will be more of Green Day being Green Day, not Green Day trying to out-do American Idiot. (However, I still think they should keep World vs World in mind for inspiration haha.)
Rae'n'shine Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 What I wouldn't have given to be apart of the wall while they played around with their equipment from the Kerplunk era.
Nele Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 v Well, none of these post say "OMFG they'll go back to the Kerplunk era!!!" So I think nobody was expecting it anyway.
PleasedToMeetMe Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 We know GD aren't gonna go into the studio with Andy Ernst and record an album with the old Kerplunk equipment, but I think they should definatly use that old school 89-93 sound a little more.
Psycho Britney Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I love how cute they are playing with all the old equiptment! Brillant to hear to hear about the demo's and stuff too but nothing really new in the article.
Sunshine2385 Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 It's fucking retarded you guys are saying "lady caca" cover album, or even getting your hopes up. I think it's just Kerrang spreading rumors.
PleasedToMeetMe Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I hope they release something within the next 2 years. I'm guessing sometime next year we'll hear some more news on this subject. It's fucking retarded you guys are saying "lady caca" cover album, or even getting your hopes up. I think it's just Kerrang spreading rumors. I have to agree with the Lady Gaga aspect. Why the hell would GD release an album of Lady Gaga covers?!? Honestly, that would be enough for me to stop listening to them.
Tubbie Head Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 v ohh.. no I said I would do anything to hear it 'cause I'm sure it didn't sound like shit... I don't care what Billie thinks about it, I would love to hear it anyway! xD and also because I know they would never release anything like that... If they don't finish a new album by the end of 2011, we'll never hear a new GD song again. D: Don't say that! OMG We know GD aren't gonna go into the studio with Andy Ernst and record an album with the old Kerplunk equipment, but I think they should definatly use that old school 89-93 sound a little more. Yeah, I love their old sound, It was so pure y'know? the non-artificial sound of it..
HoneyDo666 Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I think they're going to keep evolving, past even their brilliant rock operas! Going back to their old sound would not be evolving. What makes them so fantastic, well one of the things that makes them fantastic, is their evolution as a band. They're never boring!
Tubbie Head Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I think they're going to keep evolving, past even their brilliant rock operas! Going back to their old sound would not be evolving. What makes them so fantastic, well one of the things that makes them fantastic, is their evolution as a band. They're never boring! Yeah.. That's exactly why I love them so so much =) But I just think it would be amazing to hear those recordings they made
Holly Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Nice to hear Not as exciting as it was made out to be, cause kinda assume that they're recording demos and stuff all the time, but its still nice to know they've been in studios getting stuff down. Hopefully the fact they're already commenting on their new album means we're not going to be waiting another half a decade
Supermodel*Robot Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I love that they pulled out all their Kerplunk! gear. I would so go for something that sounds like Kerplunk! I doubt that it would ever happen though.
Tiffx Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 ^ Just thinking about that makes me excited as fuck. But I shouldn't get my hopes up, I doubt they will go back in that direction.
Angela. Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Nothing new, but an interesting little read nonetheless.
Moxy Crimefighter Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Nice fail you got going on there Kerrang! -_- I'm sorry if I expected something more solid and not just previous quotes. But the thing about the old recording equipment was nice
Z0RG Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Green Day's Billie-Joe Armstrong has said that the band have begun work on their new album. Despite last album '21st Century Breakdown' only coming out in May 2009, Armstrong said the trio started working on new material during downtime on their European tour last October. He added that they want the as-yet-untitled new record to be finished quicker than '21st Century Breakdown', which came five years after the band's previous album 'American Idiot'. "We did some demos in Berlin, some in Stockholm, some just outside of Glasgow and some in Amsterdam," Armstrong told Kerrang!. "We wanted to get [the new songs] down in some early form." http://www.nme.com/news/green-day/50278
