Did Green Day Revive Punk?

I don't think it's bullshit! Nowadays the only thing that the bands are concerned is with the appearance! Nobody gives a shit for music anymore! Do any crap just to launch the album once and have more exposure in the media! They just want to get more attention!

What it means "Bam, you get the cards"

I do. You're making out that every single band and artist is only concerned with their appearance and don't care for the music. What a load of rubbish. Sure, there are a few bands and singers that do exactly this. But that doesn't mean that it's that way for every other band. Stop generalising bands.

Take 30 Seconds To Mars, for instance. They spend four years perfecting their new album. They kept their fans up to date with newsletters and videos on Youtube. The album has been out since December. They do loads of stuff for their music and their fans, and it's not all about appearance and attention. (Can't say the same for that mohawk, but w/e)

So what you're saying doesn't apply to every single band.

Bullshit is also a card game.

I admit I'm wrong to generalize the bands, yet there are few who are saved!

I had no idea that there was this game. I had never heard about it before.

To argue/discuss what is or isn't punk, goes directly against "punk"...

It's a silly conversation to have... But to "answer" that question, just look at where punk was pre-dookie, and what happened in the aftermath.

Also, the Sex Pistols suck so bad.

We might not have Green Day if it weren't for the Sex Pistols. If Billie hadn't heard 'Holiday In The Sun' would he have decided to play punk music?

Sex Pistols are class anyway! :D

Someone else commented that Green Day "transcended" punk and I think that nails it -- their roots are and always will be in punk rock and they definitely still ascribe to the "we'll do what we want to do when we want to do it, and f*ck anyone who tells us otherwise" ethos -- but they've grown up. Their music, Billie's songwriting, and hell, his vocals have all evolved and now there's basically no musical style that they can't play, and play great. Well, maybe Gregorian monk chants, but I digress. Today they're just as effective at playing their classic punk jams as they are at arena rock, classic rock, ballads, and the list goes on. When you're married for 16 years, have been making music with your two best friends for over two decades, have a pair of great kids at home, introduce your mom and sister at your 25,000+ seat arena gigs, and write a Broadway musical, I'd say it's time to take the "punk" label off your shirt and throw it in the can. :)

To the extent that Green Day's success has drawn other young artists into punk rock, I would say that yes, certainly they've been a factor in reviving the genre and keeping it fresh....but even moreso I would agree that they've transcended, grown beyond, their genre. They're no longer "pure" punk, and what they're capable of now also isn't limited by that label either.

I hate it when, whenever somebody says "I don't like the Sex Pistols" someone always has to say "without them, we wouldn't have Green Day". So the fuck what? Just because Green Day exists because of the Sex Pistols, doesn't have to mean that you automatically have to like them. It's called an opinion. Not everybody likes the Sex Pistols because they're "classic punk" or because Green Day was influenced by them.

I didn't say I don't respect them for what they did for punk, but I still think they sucked as a band. And don't get my wrong, Nevermind the Bollocks was a great album, and had some great songs... But in the full scope of things, I think they were horrible.

RAMONES>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>sex pistols.

green day is punk at times, and pop punk at times. they aren't the hardcore, screaming fast paced punk but they're still in the punk/rock category. they are certainly not emo, because they don't write songs about inflicted pain or suffering to themselves. wearing black and using eyeliner doesn't make anybody emo, it's just a fashion statement. in my opinion green day still runs along the lines of the punk rock genre, but are not hardcore punk.

I'd say yes, but I think Green Day's music covers much more than just one genere ;)

why not? they do what they want, I mean, not because the money and stuff, they love what they do.

Just one moment I'm gonna post a Mike interview about it

Question: In the last elections in the US, Green day helped ( www.punkvoter.com ) and they cheered the left people up to vote. Moreover the band has collaborated with some soldieries associates. Is this 21st century punk rock?

Mike: We are punk in our way. We prefer to stay with someone like Bono who helps needy persons that stay with Sid Vicious who only liked the destruction. Is important help people and being a good person

sorry, my translation sucks
