Without Warning they would have never had the guts to go ahead with something like AI.

Exactly! :)

I love Warning. the songs are so beautiful and catchy.

There are a couple weak songs, but overall, it's definitely a good album. I also disagree regarding the cohesiveness. Every song on Warning has a certain rootsy and subtle sound.

In fact, I'm someone who wasn't a big fan of the album when it was first released. I thought it was a sign of Green Day becoming softer and boring. But I've come to appreciate it much more.

Next to Dookie Warning is one of my favourite GD albums. I´ve always loved Macy´s Day Parade and all the other songs are equally inspiring and emotional. I think it´s kind of an experience when you listen to Warning after having listened to AI or 21st CBD for a while.

Warning is my first and favorite, I think the lack of cohesiveness is a good thing.

They were experimenting and as a result there was big variety, Good for them.

And whats all this "last non-rock-opera" nonsense? how would any of us be able to predict that?

I have come to the conclusion, after 1000s of spins of all 3 records, that 21CB is the bastard lovechild of American Idiot and Warning (the albums, not the tracks).

21 CB borrows is song/narrative structure heavily from AI and references/reprises the songs of Warning a shite load more than AI ever did (dare I say they were starting to run a bit thin on ideas?)

Album should have been called, 'Warning, American Idiots.. you're heading for a 21st Century Breakdown!'

Or something like that.

That´s a great way of saying it! I totally agree with you!

I think both Warning and 21st Century Breakdown contain experimental songs that include all types of instruments and subjects. But AI and Warning have in common that they both show that GD as a band has developed intensely.

I think so, and you could say they did already with Foxboro Hot Tubs! ;)

i wouldnt be so sure about that, i see the entire FHT album as a story of some sort.

such as Mother Mary --> Alligator --> Pieces of Truth

and just a bunch of them correlate with eachother.

As far as Warning goes, i love that album. its complex in its own simplicity and it has many hidden gems that a lot of general fans dont pick up on.

Deadbeat Holiday, Fashion Victim and Jackass are my favorites from the album <3

and i've grown to appreciate Macys Day Parade over the last few years as well
