I'm glad you mentioned this. :)

I know a lot of us a few days ago were discussing our concerns about Green Day's lack of publicity in general for the new album and how it was kind of upsetting. I know there are a LOT of people that are casual Green Day listeners that still don't know they released an album in 2009. This certainly isn't the bands doing, but rather their management. It's just a shame because 21st Century Breakdown is such a work of art, and I feel like it didn't get the credit it deserves because it wasn't publicized well. There wasn't much advertising for it at all, and for whatever reason, their new music videos are rarely played (but of course in the age where MTV airs Jersey Shore more than music television, maybe this isn't so strange).

My personal feeling on the lack of publicity is - I want the album and the guys to get the credit they deserve. That said, this album's release has felt really intimate for the fans. It's not like American Idiot where the whole world knew about the album and treated it like just another "hit". It was an under-hyped release, but it allowed the fans to enjoy it quietly and discuss it amongst ourselves instead of having people who know nothing about the band giving commentaries on what they're doing wrong/right.

I guess to sum it up - I know the album isn't getting the credit it deserves due to lack of publicity, and as someone who loves the band, that's unsettling. After creating such a fantastic album, the band DESERVES that recognition. At the same time - we have really enjoyed the "quiet time" and lack of "hype". It made it a much more personal and intimate for the fans.

Without going into detail, or reasoning, it was actually Green Day's decision not to heavily publicise the album.

And I quote, "let's not make it big. Let's just make it something for our guys. For our people. Let's do this for our family.' -Billie during the publicity meeting.

^ Really? Wow, that just made my night (or day, I suppose). :D That's really, really cool and great to hear.

I think a lot of us were concerned that it was NOT the band's decision and they were getting a bit "screwed over" (sorry for the lack of a better term) by their management. If it was their idea though - that's great! Well, if you pass anything else on to them - tell them that their idea is working and a lot of people are happy with it! :)

I fucking love that. It really felt like that after the huge success of AI, they wanted to make something not as huge, but still make an album that touched to the core of their fans. That's what I thought, anyway. And it makes me happy that they considered that too and made it happen like that.

Wow. The fact that Billie insisted on our New Zealand shows actually just brought a tear to my eye.

I love Green Day with all of my fucking heart, every single album. Including FBHT, The Network and Pinhead Gunpowder. No matter what direction they choose to head in, I will still have the utmost respect and love for those men.

I don't really have any life changing/life saving stories about Green Day - one day when I was 11 I heard a song and from about the age of 13 I have loved them. However, the night of December 19th 2009 (the last show of the decade!) was one of the greatest nights of my life and the fact that Billie Joe personally insisted on those shows... wow, just wow.

I have no more comments to add, but I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to chat with us and talk about our likes/dislikes with the band. I hope it helped you and for me, it certainly was insightful! Thank you for answering OUR questions the best you could!

And again - the fact that the band wanted to keep this album on the down-low is so amazing to here. That just proved that all those comments from various people that said "the band treats their fans so well" weren't for nothing.

Yes, there was a lot of 'comment' (for lack of a ruder word) about the New Zealand shows. The guys weren't actually given New Zealand at all in the first copy for the tour. Billie said to the management that he was doing the show in New Zealand and basically didn't care how, he just told the management to 'get your asses together' and put together a show in New Zealand.

Because it was a very short-notice change to the tour, New Zealand didn't get as caught up in the hype and there was definitely a lack of interviews and publicity while they were there.

Please just keep in mind it was Billie Joe who insisted a show in New Zealand! :)

WOW thats AMAZING!!! :woot: Don't get me wrong i was enormously greatful for them to have even concidered doing a show in NZ. It often feels like we get missed out by alot of bands and for Billie to stand up and do that for us makes me want to cry with happiness.

Well from my end you won't be hearing any major rumours (Green Day's got a new album, Green Day's flying to Sydney for a show in the morning etc) but little tidbits and facts, I'm more than happy to share.

Thanks for all your comments guys! It's awesome hearing about what you think of the Green Day, past, present and future!

QUESTION: why is Warner such a bitch about things like HLAHG?

From what I understand, I believe Peacemaker won't be being released as a single. Don't hold me to that, however, as it was just hear-say circulating around Reprise.

Awwwww. Peacemaker is by far my favourite song on the album. And American Eulogy. And See the Light.

Hahah don't worry, my heart wasn't set on it being a single, but it would lovely to see it out there. :)

I don't have anything to do with Warner so unfortunately I can't answer that. I do know, however, that the guys themselves are furious about it.
