novacaine_kid Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 I'm not 100% sure on this one as I was quite young at the time. But the earliest memory I have of Green Day is hearing When I Come Around on the Radio in the car on the way to school. I didn't fully get into them until Nimrod was out though.
Hermione Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Would've been seeing the Basket Case video on MTV at my best friend's house at some point around the time it came out, when I was about 8.I always liked that video and on the few occasions I saw it in the years after it came out, I was always absolutely fascinated with Billie's face, I couldn't take my eyes off it . I never gave the band any more thought though and didn't become a fan until a decade later, by which time I'd forgotten all about the lead singer's fascinating face or what he even looked like.
Angela. Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 I'll never forget it. I was in 6th grade. It was around October of 2006, and I heard a live version of Extraordinary Girl from AOL after school in my room. I fell in love at the sound of the first guitar note. That was actually the first time I had heard of Green Day and knew that it was them. The first time I actually heard and GD song and wasn't under the knowledge that it was them was when I was in 5th grade. I heard Good Riddance played at our 5th Grade graduation party on a Powerpoint slideshow.
Laura! Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 May 2005, my friends had BOBD on repeat and after hearing it about 10 times I loved it, I came home searched and listened to more Green Day then begged my friend to burn me American Idiot and I instantly fell in love. I went from loving 70's rock to Green Day in one day.
AndrewW91 Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 I remember back when I was a child I liked the singles from Dookie, they played them on the radio all the time. Though, I know it wasn't around the exact time Dookie came out, it had to be like 98 or 99. Then I liked Good Riddance, and then Minority and Warning. They played those songs all the time. I stopped listening to rock music for about 2 years of my life, and then I got back into it when I was a freshman in high school. I was a dumbass back then, and I "hated Green Day". Ugh, I hate talking about this. I guess I was just saying that because not a lot of people liked them, but I secretly liked Holiday and Boulevard of Broken Dreams. One day, my mom bought me a Green Day shirt. I told her I didn't like Green Day all that much, but I still wore it because I'm not an inconsiderate brat. I decided I would give them a try by listening to more of their songs, and I came across Coming Clean, and I instantly fell in love. So Coming Clean is the song that got me into them, and it remains my favorite song of all time (along with Macy's Day Parade. Yes, I have 2 songs in my number one slot). My brain pretty much exploded when Billie played Macy's Day Parade at the concert I went to. At that time, I was thinking that nothing could be better than this. Then he went from Macy's Day Parade to Coming Clean! I was in tears. God, I love that song soooo much! It had a much bigger impact on me for other reasons, but thats a whole different story.
sassafrasroots_ Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 I first really started listening to them in 2001/2002, my dad borrowed international superhits! of one of his friends at work. I remember being in the car listeing to poprocks & coke. We'd had some of there CD's for a while though but hadn't really well and truly listened to them 'till then though. I also rememer spending the whole of year 9 playing wake me up when spetember ends in music on the keyboards needless to say thats the only time i payed attention in music and i was the only one to learn it the whole way through properly
Ally Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 When i first heard them and knew who they were it was American Idiot on Kerrang TV in september 04 (this wasn't even when i got into green day i didn't get into them until January 05). But i had seen them before that but didnt know who they were and didn't even like them then...i remember that being Minority on MTV but i only remember it cos it was when we first got Sky TV and i remember seeing the parade thing so that would have been around 2000 ish
Last American Girl Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 "Time Of Your Life" when I was about 7 or 8. Awesome.
Tiffx Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 I heard BOBD on the radio when I was 14. I have heard Good Riddance before that but never knew who Green Day were until 04.
Yellow Felony Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Basket Case - Heard it in my dad's pickup when I was six... Got into Green Day when Warning came out and the big thing than was Minority.
Gaby80 Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Yes, "Basket case" , saw it on tv in 1994, when I was 14 years old, went to record shop next day to buy "Dookie", which was my first punkrecord ever.the rest is history, hehe
Mrs.Kerplunk Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Very first time American Idiot on TV but i skipped to another chanel Then the 2nd time I watched it til the end .. and yea ..loved it. Thats 6 years ago btw (:
PasalacquaBomb Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 I think it was BOBD or AI. I liked all singles of American Idiot but I was very young and Green Day was just, yknow, a band. Then at the beginning of the year, my school-neighbour asked me to burn him the American Idiot album cause he was GD fan but just had 3 songs (lol). I burned him and then I got back into Green Day. Then 21st Century Breakdown came out and yea ... I liked it. Now, I've got every album and many bootlets and DVDs. Am I freak? YES!
green-day1972 Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 on 14th October 2004 it was American Idiot's music video on TV. It was one month before my tenth birthday. But I saw Austin Powers when I was 8 and there is Espionage inside. (but I didn't know that was Green Day)
GoodRiddanceGE Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 That woud be Boulevard Of Broken Dreams. I´ve heard it on the radio when I was about 13 years old. I bought the American Idiot album shortly after it and immediately fell in love with the band. So in the following I bought all their albums they´d recorded before.
PasalacquaBomb Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 But I saw Austin Powers when I was 8 and there is Espionage inside. (but I didn't know that was Green Day)I think nobody knows this is from GD before he buys Shenanigans
Salmonator. Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Walking Contradiction, but Holiday was when I feel in love.
leacalifornia Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 I believe it was Brain Stew/Jaded on the radio in 2004 or 2003...man that was a loooong time ago......
xjernpqvrnbfv Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 the first song i heard was American Idiot. I saw the video on MTV(at this time they still played music!), and I loved it, but I always forgot the name of it. Then BOBD came out, and I bought the American Idiot album. but i'm pretty sure I've heard When I Come Around before. dunno. I wish MTV would still play music -.-
