LibertyBelle. Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I'm glad this is song of the week, it's so easy to relate to and the harmony in the chorus just makes it imo.
Angie-Marie Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I've been trying to think of something unique to say about Christie Road, but it all just keeps coming down to this: I adore it. It's just one of those songs that I can't imagine anyone not identifying with in some way. Everybody has their own Christie Road. When I first heard it, I thought it was a brilliant song that must be exactly what it's like if you've just gotten out of high school and instead of going off to college, you're stuck at home while all your friends move away and move on with their lives. But since then, I realized it's not just about post-high school life, it can also be about post-college life if you wind up back at home and don't have anyone to hang out with anymore since your old friends aren't around anymore, and that's pretty much where I'm at in my life right now. It really hit me one night just how much I do identify with that song when it came on while I was out for a late night drive, which is what I like to do at night if I get bored and lonely, sort of my Christie Road.
Clockwise Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Christie Road's my favorite Green Day song. It was amazing to hear it live.
stuart telegraph Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I remember many years ago (1990's) looking at the tracks on the album in a store, and thinking it must be a song about a girl named Christie. When i finally bought the CD in 2007 (I don't know why it took so long cuz I bought every other album the day they were released since Insomniac) I realized how much I can relate to this song. My "Christie Road" is a 9 mile bike ride thru the countryside to a bridge over a creek that used to have tracks on it where I come to just take in the 360 view of... well corn, some trees, the sky, and uh more corn. Its just nice to get away and be alone with your thoughts and not feel the constraints of what usually binds you, a message Billie conveys in this song very well.
Joy of suburbia. Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 when I was driving to class todaythis song came on.I was singing along with itand as I listened to the lyrics...something came over me andfor some strange reason... I started to cry.this song makes me feel emotional in every wayand it describes my life perfectly and it is my 2ndfavorite song off of Kerplunk! and the way Billie putsthis feeling of being alone with just you and your thoughtsinto words is just...amazing.Gosh...I must sound like a dork right now. :/
davegrohllover Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 This is one of my favorite songs, i love it!
Black Wolf Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Aww, I really love Christie Road One of my favs.
umbjisfhinefum Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 i love this song so much. i remember it was one of the first songs I heard off Kerplunk. BJ sang it acoustically at the san jose show last year and it was one of my favorite moments of the night.to me, this song kind of represents that metaphorical "place" that I can always go to make me realize that everything is okay. "we'll always seem to find a way to christie road" is like, we will always find ourselves in the end, and we'll always realize what really matters in life. it sounds SO cheesy... haha. i might be going to the actual tracks at christie road this weekend...they are in a town called Martinez which is north of Berkeley.WILL be going this weekend. and yea...i agreeas a real reply to this song thingy:when i first heard kerplunk i overlooked this song for the longest time. i really can't say why i decided to listen to it the first time i did but it took awhile for it to grow on me. i love this song so much now and can't imagine why i didn't think much of it in the beginning.
gone2pasalacqua Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 WILL be going this weekend. and yea...i agree <--omg face

I just have to ask - Iowa? That's the only place I've ever been where I saw that much corn. Just curious .

J'net Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 Indiana, but closeWell - one of those "I" states .I love the discussion in this thread. I've always thought of Christie Road as a place where he went to meet up with his friends. Probably the lines, "... of that place we go. We'll always seem to find our way to Christie Road," are what gave me that picture in my head. But then again, I also have a picture of Billie standing alone on the hood of his car watching the trains. But I'd never actually stopped to think about whether he was alone at Christie Road or just standing alone on top of his car.So many people seem to be talking about their own personal Christie Road as a place where no one else goes. Mine was a park near where I lived during high school. All my friends hung out there, and it was very unusual to drive up and find no one at all. Often there were lots of people there. It was a place where I never felt alone. And I don't just mean physically, literally alone. It was a place where I identified with most of the other people there. Kind of like this forum . Maybe GDC is my Christie Road now. It's interesting to me to think about Christie Road from both perspectives. After all, just because it's a place where he goes with his friends doesn't mean he's always there with his friends.
jodiegd Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 my favourite off kerplunk, its also one of my top most played on my ipod, when i heard it live last year in bham it made me love the song even more
Johannamunter Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I used to listen to this song all the time when I first discovered green day, it's a good song and all, but now it just reminds me about that time and it wasn't the happiest period of my life
Holly Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Oh my, love this song so much! I always used to like it, but since they played it at the gig I went to it has totally changed the way I look at it. I absolutely love it now! When they played it I just cried because I was so happy, the duration of this song was possibly the best moment of my life so far
Sarahnade. Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 One of my favorite Green Day songs. It's just perfect.
itsjustmusic4 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 This has been one of my favorite songs and green day songs since I saw Green Day last August 18th in san jose and BJ sang Christie Road acoustic with his guitar and it was only after I had heard the song on the cd a few times and so then i completely fell in love with it, especially all acoustic. And I had a perfect view of him playing it through the people standing in front of me in general admission, it was a a moment i will never forget.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing your story. I was at that show!!! As a matter of fact, the photo in my sig of Billie Joe wearing the yellow sunglasses was taken at that show when he was singing Mother Mary to me. I was the one he talked to about how many shows I'd been to. SAN JOSE was memorable for many reasons, including Christie Road!Hahaha - I'm sitting in a hotel in San Jose as I type this.

tommy_huggs Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Hey J'net. Thanks for putting up the videos. I watched all 3 in reverse order. I love this song. It always reminds me of delivering the free local newspaper when I was about 13/14. I listened to Kerplunk for the 1st time whilst doing this cos I had just bought it on cassette that day to play in my walkman! I loved this song from the 1st time I heard it as the chorus seemed so appropriate at the time. Great choice for song of the week. Thank you.
