This week’s Song of the Week is Christie Road from the Kerplunk! album. Please use this thread to discuss your thoughts and feelings about the song.

Billie sprung a live acoustic of this (just the first two verses and two refrains) on us during the July 29 Washington DC show at Verizon Center. All I can say about that is :wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub:

The song to me is just a big reminder that you need to "go to your happy place" every so often, whether that's the gym, a tropical beach with a margarita melting in your hand, or someplace far up in the hills outside of Oakland where you can smoke some fine weed and watch the trains roll in. :eyebrows:

My favorite verse has to be "Now I feel like me once again"...he seems to be describing that his transformation back into something better than "sub-human" is complete, and (especially as the father of a two-year-old toddler) I can *SO* get that.

I never paid much attention to the song before the concert...and now I find that his acoustic version (which I ripped from the onlyi two YouTube vids of it that made it under the venue's tight-ass security's radar) has itself become my own "happy place". I listen to it and it always brings me right back to sec 100, row L. :)

mine too.

that song just makes me think about

my life in general.

I heard it live in D.C. and Billie

played it acoustically...

I freaking melted.

Oh, sweet, so you were there to hear it too! Wanna rip of it for your iPod? It's still alive on my Megaupload account -- http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Y5E6Q1FP.

I've moved away from my Christie Road! and the bad thing is, the song describes it perfectly. Oh well, this song is still so close to my heart

I love Christie Road  One of my favorite songs

This song is my fave of off Kerplunk.

I think I screamed a lung out when they played it at my show.

Wish they did it at my show :( its like my all time fave green day song. love it so much, and it set as my alarm tone on my phone in the mornings so i wake up to "staring out of my window", and i hear that bit every 5 mins for a whole hour since i put it onto snooze like 12 times!

Thanks. I'm going to put it on my ipod. I was there too and I LOVED that acoustic version of Christie Road and really wanted a recording of it.

(And, to my fellow mid-Atlantic person.... snOMG!!!! This is some kind of sick joke! No more snow!!)

Aw, I love this song. It's just so ... well, I don't know how to put my feelings into words, but people before me have already described it perfectly. I really love the song.

And it's also the first oldie Green Day song I heard, and I immediatly fell in love with it. Had a couple day obsession with it too, listening it continuously, haha.

I love the third video of it, too. I'm now trying to get it on my iPod, but I haven't entirely figured out how to cut the talking in the beginning out.

I can't believe this hasn't been SOTW yet!

Definitely an old-school green day CLASSIC!

And I totally get what you mean about everyone being able to relate to it. It just fills your head with memories and emotions.

GAH I love it so much!

My favourite of Kerplunk! and amazing song I hold close to my heart :D

This is and always will be my number one Green Day song. It pretty much related to my entire life. I was absolutely shocked and thrilled to be able to hear it live in Hartford, I'll never forget it! I love this song

It's my second favorite song from Kerplunk.

Did anybody remark that it sounds a bit like Smells Like Teen Spirit?

Hearing this song makes me either very sad or very happy, depending on my mood. But either way, I absolutely love it!

And I love the third video in this thread from Jaded in Chicago. That whole concert is one of my favorites even though I wasn't there.

Whenever, wherever they've played it, it's always just as awesome. Not on my absolute top list, but I think it used to be.

I remember when I was 16 we were gonna host a radioshow in school, and choose one song each that we we're gonna play in our show. I chose Christie Road.

And, well, Kerplunk's just...

I really like this song but it wouldn't be a favourite of mine. Still, I really love the guitar solo at the end of the song and I can really relate to that empty feeling of pure boredom and loneliness at times.

The song that has got me through so many years of being ill and hospitalisation, the song that told me that not matter how lonely I felt I wasn't alone, the song I got played by holding up a piece of paper with a simple request during Rocktober with a smile and a nod from Billie <3
