Misery (The Day the Green Day Community Server Went Down)

Besides AI and the fact it got me into Green Day, it was probably this song that really hooked me. I knew AI the song, but I didn't get the album straight away, I got Warning instead, and I remember listening to it randomly in my room and being in awe of how different it is. Not just the lyrics but the music too, it wasn't like anything i'd heard at that point. I absolutely love songs that tell a story, and I love the sardonic style of the lyrics. It's like all this stuff is happening and he still has a dopey grin on his face, despite all the 'misery', or that he even enjoys watching other people suffer. XD

And I absolutely love "Hell hounds on your trail now once again, boy" too XD

I really like this song and how it's a bit different. I remember when i first got Warning it was one of the tracks that i listened to most as i liked it right from the off.

I love Warning (one of my favourite) and I think a song like Misery is a proof of the versatility of GD...at first listen you could think its something completely different but inside you could always recognise GD...I think it expresses their ability to make different thing leaving always their mark...

I have to be in the mood for it. It's very different. I have to be in the mood for a story to want to listen to it. In a way, Peacemaker reminds me of Misery, with the folk music aspect. Like you want to do some kind of ethnic dance or something.

Oh man, finally, Misery ! Yay.

In my opinion, it's maybe the most unique song of this band. It's like a treasure. I love it so much, it's so different compared to the other songs. It's a shame that they haven't played this song live, unless at the soundcheck of Milton Keynes and on the Fuse Comp'd-thing in late 2005 - if I am right. Someone said that they played it but never aired that performance, though. But anyway, the biggest thing I love this song is of course, extraordinary melody. It's so freaking catchy ! And the solo, oh man, love it. One of the greatest Green Day songs ever! Maybe we see that day when they're playing it live. Maybe in Wembley? But yeah, great choice and great song !

I loved this song the first time I heard it, and I listened to it all the time. I don't listen to it so much anymore, but I still find it awesome. Thanks for posting that clip from the soundcheck, I haven't seen it before :)

I love misery! it's very different from their other songs, but that's one of the things makes it so unique. They should have played it more live!

Oh, "The Day the Green Day Community Server Went Down" is a great song.

"Misery" isn't bad either. In fact, it's one of my favorite songs and I love that it tells different stories. At least I think it tells different stories. So different from other Green Day songs and yet one of their best recordings imo! Great choice!

Misery is just a great song. :woot:

Viva la Gloria (Little Girl) is trying to steal its style though.

I was obssessed with Misery back in 2006, I remember. Warning was my favourite album at that point.

It's a bit different from other songs, and tells a story. And I love that about Green Day - that they have these certain songs that stand out and show their very interesting versatility.

I still think it's a really, really great song. Awesome.

Misery is such an amazing song, not one of my favorites, though. I like that it's different from any other Green Day song. :)

Listened to this on the bus roday :) It made me realise how much orchestra is involved (like Peacemaker). First there's Mike playing the farfisa (?), then when Billie sings 'Pan-han-d-ling misery' there is that drum that's not part of the drum kit (you know). Then there's like a gajillion others including the Mandolin of Discipline.

And she screams why oh why?

I said IDK!!!!!! (lawl)

HEARING THIS SONG LIVE WAS THE BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO ME.

I know I'm supposed to have left GDC, but I wanted to be able to post in this before it's not the song of the week anymore.

Why are you supposed to leave this place? :)

It's probably one of the least Green Day-ish songs, every time I listen to it I can't believe they did something so different but still great. Definitely one of my favourites. (Actually, now when I think about that, I see some similarities to songs from 21st CB, like Little Girl for example. I mean music, not lyric-wise)

To me, Misery has a bit of that odd mysterious feeling. I don't know why this particular image stuck in my head but every time I listen to it I see a dark street at a rainy night and a car with poor Vinnie inside  But generally I like to imagine the whole story that song tells. I think there was a fan made video on YouTube which was quite good (as far as I remember, it was long time ago when I watched it) but now I can't find it.

My favourite too! With the best bit of all being how he says "BOY!".

My favourite three! And yes, I love how he says 'boy' too. In such a badass way :D

I love how I randomly chose to play this song on the ride to school, and I haven't played Misery in a long time.

Of course its the SOTW. Anyway, this is probably one of Green Day's most unique song, and I love how its pretty much a mini rock opera, like A Quick One.

Oh, this was the first song of Warning that I payed attention to :D I love it
