cherylr Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 I love the theme in this song. I totally know the feeling when I'm locked up in my room, angry or depressed, and I just want to be left alone, but people come nagging asking what's wrong or telling me to not be so upset about whatever it is. I'm very introverted when it comes to my emotions & don't like letting people in or telling them what's wrong with me, so this song just explains perfectly my frustrations when people start to pry. However, I hate the way they say "I want to be alone." I don't know why, the sound has just always bothered me. I love how Billie sings the rest, but just those key lines seem diluted. If that makes any sense.Me too. Why can't people understand that? If I want to share my emotions with you, I'll let you know. If not, please go away.I like the way they say "I want to be alone". I have to admit this is the first time I've heard this song. But I really liked it.
Eirik Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 I love the little contradiction in the beginning of the chorus, the "Please don't think I'm crazy, I don't want you to understand". It's never really been a favorite of mine, even when I did relate to it.

LetItBeHappy Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Hahaha I agree - personally I ALWAYS hear 'Adeline' somehow in that sentence..! YES, ME TOO! In fact, if I ain't reading the lyrics, I just understand the lines of "please don't think i'm crazy/ i don't want you to understand" and "lock myself inside my room, i want to be alone" xDthe sister of a friend of mine had an accident, and I want to call her, but I'm seriously considering that she might be feeling like in the song, like wanting to be alone and all :/ I think I'll call later either way.
Metanoia Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 I like it...sometimes wanna be alone as well....
Anja Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 I don't get what this has to do with Greta Garbo And I do know who she is!Anyway, again a great choice for Sotw! I'm in deadly love with this song even though - like Ania said already - most of the lyrics are just gibberish to me The lyrics are easy for me to relate to and I love how Billie sings the song. I just don't get what he means by "with you around, you only add on" :/

I just don't get what he means by "with you around, you only add on" :/Well, Greta Garbo was known for saying, "I Vant to be alone." That's how I've heard it said. Even though she was a movie star, she didn't like hanging out and partying. She preferred to be somewhat reclusive. And, the way I interpret that lyric is, "With you around, you only add to my stress or my problems. You might be trying to help, but it's not helping! It's making everything worse!"

Princess Consuela Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 And, the way I interpret that lyric is, "With you around, you only add to my stress or my problems. You might be trying to help, but it's not helping! It's making everything worse!"Ooh, that makes it much more clear for me
Katarina. Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Ah, nice choice anyway! Like the song, like the album it's on even more!
rinu Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Again 1039/SOSH? Honestly I don't listen that album often. When I listen songs in that album after long time I re-discover these lyrics again. I love the theme in this song. I totally know the feeling when I'm locked up in my room, angry or depressed, and I just want to be left alone, but people come nagging asking what's wrong or telling me to not be so upset about whatever it is. Juliette Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 I don't like this song all that much, though I think the lyrics are very easy for almost everyone to relate to - if you're truly upset, you just want people to stop trying to make you feel better and leave you alone.
greenday801440 Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Yeah, I just really like how I can relate, because I pretty much prefer to be alone most of the time.Dealing with people sometimes just annoys me....
gone2pasalacqua Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 haha, i just got the Greta Garbo thing (and before I looked what J'net said up there) i was looking at the 100 most famous movie quotes online randomly today, and saw "I want to be alone" and thought, "haha Green Day" and saw that it was said by Greta Garbo, and remembered this thread, and had a total aha! moment. blah, long story. but i was excited.

insomniaticnimrod Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 i like this song, its simple but you relate to it in many ways
bjrules Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 This is a good song, but it isn't really onw of my favourites. Its easy to relate to, and even hough the lyrics are simple, I still like them.
the48maychick Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 I really love this song.Listening to it makes me happy, and I don't really know why.
wilhelm-fink Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 !!!I absolutely LOVE this song.Best song of the week ever!
Johannamunter Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 I really like this song, I love the way Billie sings the lines Please don’t think I’m crazy and Keep your sources away from me - that’s all.And it's easy to relate to the lyrics
AnnA™ Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Not one of my favourites either, but it's still a great song. I also love the way Billie's singing in it. And I can relate to the lyrics.
Freeny Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Haha J'net, I had a bird called Greta Grinchen Glassigt Garbo (G4 for short) once so yeah, I didn't need google XDAnd this song's good. I don't listen to it a lot, but I used to when I was younger and angrier, haha.Anyone noticed that Mike had loooong hair in the live vid?
Bastard of 1967 Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 This is an old, old track, I think written before Billie really learned how to blend deep, metaphorical, twisted, or multiple meanings into his lyrics, so I find I enjoy this song more if I simply take it at face value. It hits me right away with the angry, mashed-up guitars and then leaves me with one indelible image (which I'm sure I'll see first-hand within the next 10 years give or take a few, as my daughter grows up): Wife and I are sitting at the dining room table one afternoon. Talia comes home from school/activity/friend's house, and all we hear is "<front door opens> ... pause ... SLAMMM! ... STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP stomp stomp stomp stomp .... pause ... SLAMMM!" Wife and I look at each other puzzled, and I say to her, "so do you want to go upstairs and find out what's up with your daughter?" :whistling:
