languagenerd Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 I love this song . So much so that whilst driving through California on holiday in 2008, I dragged my entire family to actually stand on the corner of Stuart & Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley! (I am actually that sad/obsessed/cool )I'm not sure exactly why a song with such depressing lyrics is so great, but it's one of my favourite songs. The bass-line may have something to do with it...

languagenerd Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 No doubt about it, the term would be cool! Haha thanks. Not everyone would agree with you!I also saw the house where the Longview vid was recorded - all in all, that was one good day!
justcause Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 This song resonates for me with Good Riddance - it's a turning-point, standing on the corner with a couple of different directions. The sign-post says Stuart or The Avenue, the song says Destiny or Insignificance. Everything's fucked up, everything's up in the air, and whereas Good Riddance brings the philosophy and the vision of something better, Stuart and The Ave gives full expression to the anger and bitterness and the sense of a big shining dream that's been snatched away. This song is not just angry with 'mommy's little nightmare', it's angry with life, with feeling like destiny's fool. The energy of the music drives its defiance of all this shit, and it's like, when things seem so fucked-up, you just gotta laugh. Destiny doesn't die - sometimes it's just round the corner, waiting to see if you'll follow.
umbjisfhinefum Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 this is my favorite song on insomniac. the bass line is incredible and i totally agree with j'net, the words are so dismal yet i ALWAYS feel happy when listening to this song. i don't exactly know why i love this song so much, it is just so damn good

tommy_huggs Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 I love this song. Has always been one of my favourites from insomniac
Ally Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 One of my faves from insomniac. I love the line "standing on the corner of stuart and the avenue, ripping up a transfer and a photograph of you"
Nikki_Nimrod Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Great song, one of my faves off of Insomniac!
Hermione Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 What IS it about this song? I simply love it, but I’m not sure I can explain why. How can a song with such negative words make me feel so happy? The parts that seem hugely satisfying to me are, “…ripping up my transfer and a photograph of you. You're a blur of my dead past and rotting existence - as I stand laughing on the corner of insignificance,” “Before it might have made some sense, but now it's all fucked up,” “Seasons change as well as minds,” and especially “I may be dumb, but I'm not stupid enough to stay with you.” Well, and of course, do I even need to mention the bass line? I adore it!Yes! Satisfying is exactly the word to describe this song . Every line is a killer line and the music bounces along, erm, satisfyingly . So much greatness packed into one song. I love “I may be dumb, but I'm not STUPID enough to stay with you!”
Aguuus Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Waaaa, I agree with you, J'net! I don't know why, and exactly as you said, I don't know why or how a song with negative words make me feel happy. And I also feel that... I'm alive. Don't ask me why, I know that it sounds stupid, but when I listen to this song, I feel that I wanna shout, scream, sing it, jump. I feel... euphoric By the way, I love the bass line makes me remind Mike
