Mellyboots Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I love this song. The bass line is amazing. It took me so long to learn how to play though.
Abbey. Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 my heart LEAPS at seeing this song as SOTW. what exactly is this song about? is this an anrgy love letter that billie wrote to all that he was a part of in the east bay?
Kayfabe Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Before it might have made some sense, but now it's all fucked up!^ ^ Aint that the fuckin truth
Katarina. Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Love this song! Seasons change as well as minds..
Princess Consuela Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 It took me a minute but then I remembered Was that when I found out what "lunacy" means? Though that's from Tight Wad Hill Ah, never mind. You should have your memory tested, Anja And yes, it was when we talked about that word, though in Tad Wad Hill there's lunatics, not lunacy
Anja Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 You should have your memory tested, Anja And yes, it was when we talked about that word, though in Tad Wad Hill there's lunatics, not lunacy Pah, be glad I remember you Right, but "luancy" was the word I first heard and then we figured that it was used in a GD song You know what I mean.[/offtopic]
SpiffyGiffy Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I like this song. One of the many great songs from probably the most under-rated Green Day album except arguably Warning, but I did say probably...

rinu Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 ''Destiny is dead in the hands of bad luck'' My fav part I loveeee Insomniac, their best album imo.
Princess Consuela Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Pah, be glad I remember you Right, but "luancy" was the word I first heard and then we figured that it was used in a GD song You know what I mean.[/offtopic]I don't recall talking about 'luancy'
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Ahh great song. I love the bassline. One of those songs I really liked at first listen I never really looked into the meaning of the song until now. I knew most of the lines but never really tied them together and realized how much it isn't a happy song ^I have a new life goal: To go to that intersection and sit [or stand] and listen to Stuart and the Ave. YepHaha that's exactly what I want to do.Unfortunately my parents don't want to do a day Oakland/Berkeley (I still don't know which of the 'Green Day related places' is in which place ) just for, among other things, that.
marta_gs Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 "...before it might have made some sense, but now it's all fucked up !"love this song!! one of my favorites from Insomniac.
Agija Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 It's never been one of my favorite songs, however, it's a very good one. I like the lyrics pretty much.
Mar Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Berkeley is nicer than Oakland anyway so you should go there And as mentioned before, Stuard/Telegraph Ave. is just a few blocks down Telegraph so you should just get off somewhere near Stuart/Ave. and walk up Telegraph. That way you won't miss anything on Telegraph And you will pass the hotel BJ spent his honeymoon if that is something you would like to see lol Thank you for the info!
valentinesandcigs Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 It really made MSG2 more special then it already was. i love when they do songs never been played before then you can say they played it first at the concert you went to great song
Velocity Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I was just thinking about how awesome it would be if Green Day had made a video for this song. I can almost picture it...
Supermodel*Robot Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 AMAZING CHOICE.I adore this song. The bassline makes me go crazy One day I'm going to stand on the corner of Stuart & Telegraph Avenue and rip up a bus transfer. I really love these lyrics too... that feeling of losing sense & everything just feeling really fucked up and frustrating.
AllstarNZ Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 what a choice song for SOTW, I really liked this song on Insomniac very under-rated IMO

Bastard of 1967 Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 This week’s Song of the Week is Stuart and the Ave. Please use this thread to discuss your thoughts and feelings about the song.Good pick (for a change! )Mike owns this song....his bass lines are just killer. After the staccato intro, the bass blends together into this ebbing and flowing background "hum" (the best word I can think of to describe it) that illustrates and highlights the sheer chaos and confusion that must have been flowing through Billie Joe's mind when he wrote the lyrics. When you overlay this with Blue's lead riffs, you're left with one angry motherf**ker of a song. And that's what the song seems to be talking about. Sarcastic, spitting-in-your-face anger and frustration boils over here, not just at the one who you've broken up with, but at yourself, for having gotten involved with that person in the first place. And I think that's where Billie is harshest of all; the song is full of a loathing self-hatred that is so overwhelming as to be pitiful:You're a blur of my dead past and rotting existence,As I stand laughing on the corner of insignificance. . .I'm beat down and half brain dead, the long lost king of fools.I may be dumb, but I'm not stupid enough to stay with you.Billie makes great use of one of his hallmark writing styles, his double-meaning wordplay, here as well. Describing his ex as "mommy's little nightmare" cracked me up the first time I heard it and still always makes me smile, and proclaiming himself to be a "two-faced clown" hammers home the point that nothing ever stays the same ("Seasons change as well as minds").That Green Day was able to package up all this raging anger within a fierce, peppy, almost happy-sounding rhythm adds another twist of irony to "Stuart," ranking it in my opinion as one of the better songs on the very-underrated Insomniac album.
J'net Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 Good pick (for a change! )Awesome! I love what you've said here. I do think all the rage has one little saving grace, though ... "Before it might have made some sense, ..." leads me to believe that, even with all the anger towards her and his own self-loathing, Billie can still remember when they had something maybe kind of approaching good together. It's so tiny, it couldn't even been called a single ray of sunshine - but it's there .And yeah, how incredible is it that this sounds like such an upbeat song with those lyrics - another example of genius IMO. And - I always come back to that bass line - fell in love with that in 5 seconds flat!
LetItBeHappy Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 IMO = in my opinion thanks great song! thought i wish they would play it live more, good choice for SOTWsomeone should tell Billie to learn the finkin lyrics and to play it ¬¬
