Sarahnade. Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 :woot: This is one of my all time favorites! LOVE this song. Every single line is amazing.
gabbag Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I really love this song He played the beginning of it at MSG and then forgot the rest and I was sad but it was cool to hear the beginning!
heartscollide Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 uhh -orgasms- the bass line is fan-fucking-tastic.I need to start playing bass or something, just to play this okay. well. This has always been one of my favourites from Insomniac ever since I heard the whole album.I think maybe because it has such a catchy start, y'know?Like -DRUMS- then the bass line kicks in and then it's just an explosion of sound until Billie starts singing
gone2pasalacqua Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 i love this song. for some reason the lyric "ripping up my transfer and a photograph of you" makes me so happy because i think of all the bus transfers i get and it just makes me think how normal they all are/were. my friend and i went to the "stuart and the avenue" spot in Berkeley (my signature) and it was just so weird to think that they grew up in that town and fucked around and walked those streets...it just makes me think of how i grew up in such a small town. i know the song doesn't really illustrate that but it that's always what it makes me think of.
gone2pasalacqua Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I really love this song He played the beginning of it at MSG and then forgot the rest and I was sad but it was cool to hear the beginning!whuuuuut. i would kill to hear this live!
Mar Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Awesome song! I don't know what it is either, J'Net, it's just a fucking awesome song. For those who have been to Oakland, is this intersection in a bad neighborhood? My dad wants to take me to San Francisco this summer, and I think I might try to get to Oakland just to go here
LetItBeHappy Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I LOVE THIS FINKIN SONG!!!!! The bass line is so... I remember that one day I was talking on the phone with my best friend (AleKerplunk) and I started to sing the bass-line and se tried to teach it to me by the phone Didn't work out, but when we hung out, I finally managed to play it xDFor those who have been to Oakland, is this intersection in a bad neighborhood? My dad wants to take me to San Francisco this summer, and I think I might try to get to Oakland just to go here I haven't been there, but for what I've read from these guys interviews, Telegraph Avenue is (or was during the early days) a dangerous place.
Mari91 Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 This song rocks!I laughed so hard when Billie tried singing it at MSG and he failed miserably. But then he went into Who Wrote Holden Caufield, so it wasn't so bad.omg i was hysterically laughing!but was so mad when he stopped, but Who Wrote Holden Caulfield made up for itMikes bass line is absolutely amazing
gone2pasalacqua Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 For those who have been to Oakland, is this intersection in a bad neighborhood? My dad wants to take me to San Francisco this summer, and I think I might try to get to Oakland just to go here it's actually in Berkeley, the town next to Oakland. Telegraph avenue is really not a bad place now...its really popular and UC Berkeley is seriously like, right at the beginning of it so there's a lot of college kids. Stuart/Telegraph is a few blocks down from the main part of Telegraph where all the stores and street vendors and stuff is. it's not a bad neighborhood.
Emmalee Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 ^I have a new life goal: To go to that intersection and sit [or stand] and listen to Stuart and the Ave. Yep
JadedGirl84 Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I love this song so much. The lyrics are so dark but it's such a catchy vibrant song. I love Insomniac.
LetItBeHappy Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 ^I have a new life goal: To go to that intersection and sit [or stand] and listen to Stuart and the Ave. Yepthat just gave me the idea to go to all the placse that Billie had ever mencionated (sp?! xD) in a song. Christie Road, Stuart and the ave., Minessota to listen to 2,000 light years away.... East 12 street... Tight Wad Hillwell, someday i'll go to america

It's been a long day but thank you! I think Berkeley is also manageable
Vrock09 Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Love this song!! Now i have to listen to it! lol
Isabel Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 For those who have been to Oakland, is this intersection in a bad neighborhood? My dad wants to take me to San Francisco this summer, and I think I might try to get to Oakland just to go here It's in a really nice area, I think. We walked from the Oakland hills to UC Berkeley (bad idea on a friggin' hot summer day!!!) But it's on the way, somewhere in between. I looked across the road and was like "Holy shit, that sign says Stuart Ave!!" and my ex was like "Why don't you take a picture?" and I said "No, it probably isn't the right one"......... how could it not have been the right one?! Ugh, oh well.
ANJI Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 This song rocks!! One of the best off the album...and amazing bass line I'm gonna start my day listening to it now
Comedy & Tragedy Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 YESH! I was hoping for this song! I love it so much!Ever since I heard it, it's been my favourite from Insomniac. I really want them to play it at more shows, it's such a brilliant song!
Princess Consuela Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I completely agree with you, J'net. It's weird, because for someone who doesn't know English well, it may seem quite a cheerful song It does have some bitter and hateful lyrics but the melody makes it sound less bitter and hateful. The bass line is great, and I love how Billie sings 'Stuart' and all those' fucked up's Me and Anja were actually talking about this song and they way Billie sings it couple days ago.
LilyMarie Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 J'net's opening post said everything I could have wanted to say about this song. My very favorite line is 'Destiny is dead, in the hands of bad luck' - it's amazing how some songs seem like they were written just for you, isn't it? I didn't know he'd tried to play it live this year though...what happened?(Sorry if it's been covered, I haven't had time to read the thread as I'm getting ready for work.)*edit - nevermind, I got it.
**She** Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 that just gave me the idea to go to all the placse that Billie had ever mencionated (sp?! xD) in a song. Christie Road, Stuart and the ave., Minessota to listen to 2,000 light years away.... East 12 street... Tight Wad Hillwell, someday i'll go to america I would love to do that, too. I hope I get the opportunity (and the money...) one day. I love songs which are simple and easy to understand, but I also love songs about which I have to think for a while before I understand them completely. This one belongs to the second category for me. So this is about a relationship that has ended, right?!? The guy is standing at that mentioned place, looking back upon the broken relationship. "Ripping up my transfer and a photograph of you. You're a blur of my dead past and rotting existence..." I sounds bitter, as if he is sorry that it ended like that. But it also sounds as if he is also kind of happy that he is done with it because the girl wasn't a good choice and he feels like a fool to get into a relationship with her: "I'm beat down and half brain dead, the long lost king of fools. I may be dumb, but I'm not stupid enough to stay with you."I think it's once again brilliant songwriting, I like the "Seasons change as well as minds" part. Just my thoughts about it.
Juliette Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 First song off Insomniac I fell in love with I'd love to hear it live!
Smoothed Out Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I'm reading Nobody Likes You at the moment, and it talks all about Christie Road and Stuart and the Ave
Anja Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 wtf was this song even nominated in the thread? Yes I'm love this song sooo much! The music, the lyrics, the bass line... Going to that place gave me such a weird feeling but it felt great at the same time. And the lyircs are golden. "I may be dumb but I'm not stupid enough to stay with you"! Great!I completely agree with you, J'net. It's weird, because for someone who doesn't know English well, it may seem quite a cheerful song It does have some bitter and hateful lyrics but the melody makes it sound less bitter and hateful. The bass line is great, and I love how Billie sings 'Stuart' and all those' fucked up's Me and Anja were actually talking about this song and they way Billie sings it couple days ago.It took me a minute but then I remembered Was that when I found out what "lunacy" means? Though that's from Tight Wad Hill Ah, never mind.Ah, duh, I'm an idiot, I knew that it was in Berkeley! It's been a long day but thank you! I think Berkeley is also manageable Berkeley is nicer than Oakland anyway so you should go there And as mentioned before, Stuard/Telegraph Ave. is just a few blocks down Telegraph so you should just get off somewhere near Stuart/Ave. and walk up Telegraph. That way you won't miss anything on Telegraph And you will pass the hotel BJ spent his honeymoon if that is something you would like to see lol____________________________________________Is there a video of BJ playing part of that song last year?
LetItBeHappy Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I completely agree with you, J'net. XD
