boringdays
As much as I love green day there's so many other bands that should get in before them. Just because they've hit the 25 year acceptance doesn't mean they should get in straight away. I mean rush, iron maiden or Judas priest aren't even in it yet?? I don't particularly like those bands but I respect them for what they've done and how long they've lasted. I think you're under-estimating the impact they've had. Dookie was all over the place in the 90's, they pushed punk to the mainstream and gave way for blink-182 and a lot of other bands. Then they managed to rival that albums success 10 years later and essentially bring in a whole new fan base. No to say those bands don't deserve to be in, but the HOF would be moron's to not induct em right away. And as far as the Chili Peppers, they aren't anywhere near Green Day's status. Sure they've been around about as long, but they were never as popular or nearly as influential.
Akshat
They've been around for a really long time now but people fail to take notice because their music has evolved with time and well, they don't look that old. Cmon, Green Day definitely has more influence than all the artists there. People might know Tom Petty, Nine Inch Nails, Dream Theatre and Lenny but Green Day are wayy more popular than them. We wouldn't have Blink 182, MCR, All Time Low, Fall Out Boy, NFG or any of these pop punk bands without Green Day. In some strange way or the other, they attracted the aufience to the might of The Ramones and The Clash. Dookie and AI are amoung the top rock albums of all time. Every band has haters but they don't decide the induction process.

Anaïs.
If nothing else, Green Day are so irrelevant right now that I can't at all see them getting in the first shot. Within a few years, if they have another successful single, maybe.

Within a few years, if they have another successful single, maybe. That's what I thought. They'll either get in when they're big again or when they haven't done very much for a few years, that seems to be how it works usually.

Most people seem to prefer Green Day to RHCP.
Akshat
What? So you are saying Green Day is more influental than Dream Theatre and NIN? I mean, I don't like any of those bands you mentioned but really? Two of Green Day's albums have done better than The Downward Spiral and have been cited more by artists and critics alike. I don't even want to get into the commercial aspect of it or compare the fanbase of the two bands. I like NIN's music, but in terms of influence, Green Day is way ahead. Green Day has more awards, fame, recognition under their belt, not that NIN does not too. As dar is Dream Theatre is concerned, I have a lot of respect for Mike Portnoy, but please, Green Day isway ahead. You might not like the bands I listed, which are just a few that I could recall, but don't act all surprised like you're some Harvard kid I told y the Earth is flat. No not spot on to say GD is more popular or whatever to RHCP is wrong There is a world outide the USA, most of which has heard of Green Day more than RHCP Then again, its not fair to compare RHCP and Green Day. They're both great bands.

Doing commercial status and awards RHCP is over 85 million worldwide Green Day is at 75 million worldwide RHCp has more mtv music awards which is FAN voted than GD does... Plus Grammys but that's not fan voted RHCP largest crowd for a non festival is 100k Green Day largest crowd is in the 80k range More people in one show has attended RHCP than GD has if GD has more fans than why can't they get more crowds they are a lot cheaper than RHCP tickets... Too different crowds tho GD to me are better (the only RHCP album I liked was the the one with I Could Have Lied)
Akshat
Lmfao ok... Care to explain how RHCP has sold more in Europe than GD? Heard of the continents Africa, Asia, Australia and South America? They make up 70% of earth's landmass.

Green Day has huge fan base and is more popular than NIN and Dream Theater, there no questions about that but I tried to say that both of those bands have at least influence on music like Green Day. Green Day is more popular in rest of the world than RHCP? RHCP in Serbia in 2007 - 95000 attendance Green Day in 2013 - 12000 Yeah, it's only one country but that's huge difference. Yes and they are neck and neck to each other on sales as well (least from wiki info) RHCP is 10 million records ahead of GD more people have attended a stand alone RHCP concert than a stand alone GD concert has won more fan awards care to explain that or can't? To be fair I'd much rather GD get in before RHCP

To be fair I'd much rather GD get in before RHCP Best Selling RHCP albums: BSSM (16 million) and Californication (15 million) Green Day- Dookie (20 million, could even be 25) and american idiot (16 million+) Green Day came a few years after RHCP. The members are 8-9 years younger their RHCP counterparts. They have almost similar sales awards. In the future, green Day has a better chance at sales. AGain, I love both the bands so it doesnt even matter.
TheOneIWant
Well, I can definitely see Dream Theater, Lenny Kravitz, Garth Brooks, Tom Petty, Manic Street Preachers, and NIN getting in. I'd love to see Jawbreaker, Babes in Toyland and Porcupine Tree get in but that'll most likely never happen. It is the ROCK AND ROLL Hall of Fame and yet they might put a country artist in (Garth Brooks). I don't agree.

Garth Brooks makes music that's a lot closer to original rock 'n' roll than anyone else on that list. Anyway I'm not saying that I think he should be inducted, just that he will be. The Disappearing Boy
I think popularity probably varies depending on location. I've always said that Green Day is more widely known in America than in the UK. I think the difference say between RHCP and Green Day is that Green Day has fewer casual fans. I think that must at least partly explain how RHCP played to 95000 in Serbia and two stadium shows in South Africa. Could Green Day do that? Almost certainly not. Either way, Green Day are irrelevant at the moment, so they won't get in soon. I suspect an album with medium-level success will see them in. Idk, it doesnt feel like RHCP to me without John.I think popularity probably varies depending on location. I've always said that Green Day is more widely known in America than in the UK.
