saraHsunshine Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 It is a very long story but to sum it up: I first heard them when I was 5 (When I Come Around was on the radio) and my mom and I LOVED it. When I was older (no, sadly I didnt buy Dookie when I was 5) I saw the American Idiot video on FUSE (when it wasn't another MTV). This video appealed to me because it was not the same as the other things I saw/heard. It was bold, it was energetic and it seemed quite sincere. You can not imagine my surprise when I bought Green Day's back catalogue and discovered some of my favorite singles from my childhood. It is funny because AI turned out to be one of my lest favorite albums (as a whole - I wont deny that is has amazing musicianship, lyrics and meaning in a lot of songs, it is just not my favorite). So yes. That is why I loved Green Day. What has KEPT me loving them is as I have grown as a person I have come to see the deeper meaning in their songs and their passion for life and how they live it. They are my homeboys. They are my friends when there is no one else to talk to. But mostly they are just pretty damn cool.
Eeefaa. Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 because i moved around a lot, and almost everywhere i went people were wierd and refused to bloody talk to me like, when i lived in south africa they thought i was an outsider because of my irish accent, and then when i moved back to ireland people used to laugh because i lived in south africa and they used to be forever asking me: "If you're from africa, why are you white?" etcanyway, when i listened to GREEN DAY i just forgot them/it all i owe the guys so much for helping my self confidence
†...HAUSHINKA...† Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 one of the many reasons is that listening to GD I learnt of not being ashamed of myself...I am what I am and that's ok!
Malleus Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 I grew up listening to Green Day. When American Idiot came out, it was the first CD I ever listened to fully. I've listened to music, but never cared about it, just whatever my brother listened to. After American Idiot, I bought all their CD's I could and started listening to them a lot. I don't know, I just fell in love with them.
