farley drexel hatcher Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 I love the musical version, I just hope this doesn't come off as cheesy, with all the emphasis on the lead singers. I'm sure it should be fine though
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Well, I'm a little bummed. I love 21 Guns with the cast, but... IDK. To me - Green Day's work is up for 3 Grammys - not the AI musical cast. Green Day should be the ones performing their work from the album they're nominated for. I know 21 Guns is on 21CB, but still... the guys should be playing alone. Still, I'm sure it will be wonderful. But moving the attention away from 21CB on a night that should be celebrating it doesn't seem fair to the album or the guys.Yes, I agree with this.I love the 21 Guns with cast, and I'm really looking forward to seeing it being performed, but they aren't nominated for the AI cast, they're nominated for their own versions of their music, and it just seems more fitting if they then also played it themselves.
dolce Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 ^ Exactly. And like I said - I love that version of the song. I just don't like the idea of the attention being partially on people who had nothing to do with the making of this album. The focus SHOULD be on the guys. Maybe that sounds bratty, but - whatever. JMO.
ANJI Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 It will be interesting to see 21 Guns with AI cast...although I hoped to see them performing one of their own songs.
z5warrior Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 I was kinda hoping they would play something new, but this sounds OK 2. The cast version is awesome, but I still like the original one better. ikd, I guess to me it's weird not hearing Billie sing it. I was just hoping it would be just green day and with a more fast pace song, but I bet they'd still make it great.
Robin105 Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Hmm I just heard about the musical cast thing. I'm a big fan of 21 Guns live. I love it much more live than on the album, so I don't ever get sick of it live. I love the more fragile, intense way it's done. Not so much of a fan of this whole musical thing though :/, just not my personal taste. Can't imagine I'm going to enjoy the performance. It'll be interesting though and I will enjoy seeing the boys. This is how I feel. I agree with you 100%.
Mar Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 I too would have preferred 21CB to 21 Guns in any form (although I prefer the musical version to the original, so I'm excited to hear how this will sound live), but honestly? I think this is a good move from a publicity standpoint. This is something unique, and as awesome as 21CB is, I think this collaboration will get more peoples' attention, both to the band and the musical than a 21CB would. Lady Gaga is rumored to be performing with Elton John; in order for the guys' performance not to get lost in the hype of that, they need to do something attention grabbing and awesome. I think this will be the type of performance to do that.
*withoutadoubt* Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 ^Yep, exactly. I think this will bring good attention for them. Deserved attention. Well, I love 21 Guns, and I love hearing it live, so I'm happy about that. I think by performing it with the AI musical cast, they expose a lot of things, and that's good for them, for the musical, for the song, for the album as a whole. I really hope they keep the firework shower, tho!! It's like a cue for me to tear up, every time, lol.
LetItBeHappy Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 yeah... i guess having the cast there is good for gearing everyone up for the musical and stuff, but 21 guns? -_- even though, i'll still watch the grammy's. i wish they would play a different song, and without the cast. 21st century breakdown or the static age or something would be way cool!if they play 21 guns, I swear to god that I won't listen to that song in a month or more. They could sing something else with the cast, like... Before the lobotomy! (i won't be happy till that's a single xD)
Rosie May Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 I'm curious to see this. I just hope it won't remind people of Glee too much (I hate that show). I dunno, it really could go either way, I like that their brave enough to try something like this on the Grammy's though. I hope it's good.
Sharmellow Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 They're performing with the cast? That'll be rather interesting.
Rosie May Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 ffs not with the cast'Tis with the cast, I just read it on GDA.
Elissa. Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Huh...this will be interesting. It will be cool to hear this live, though I'm wondering how the audience will react to something like this. I mean, I think this version is ok (I still prefer the normal 21 Guns), but would other people like it too? Like, non-Green Day fans. The ones who have only heard 21 Guns and BOBD and such.
HoneyDo666 Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 I think it'll be great! And finally Green Day's great performing won't be overshadowed by the hype of others, because their performance will be hyped!

misslyssx Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 I tink the general reaction will be: wtf? Haha I agree. But I'm really excited to see it with the cast
Rosie May Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Haha I agree. But I'm really excited to see it with the cast Yeah, I hope it works out for them, it could easily go horribly wrong and end up looking cheesy.
TaylorKlinke Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Well, I think this is a way to publicize the musical coming to Broadway. They'll make an announcement about it at the show. And I believe that the boys will make it unforgettable....I mean, it's Green Day we're talking about! I think everyone doubts them wayy too much.
plaid ducky Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Here is Variety's article on it: http://www.variety.com/article/VR111801441...yId=16&cs=1
Rebel07 Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Maybe for all of us who aren't looking forward to hearing 21 guns again, they will lead it into another song.. perhaps.kind of like how they did know your enemy at the EMA's and then went into Minority unexpectedly although i am glad it will be with the cast, should be awesome to see.
Izzard Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 As much as I am excited for this, I am also a tad bit scared...I hope it turns out well. Looking forward to seeing it.
newsflash777 Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 It's cool, but at the same time, I really hope it doesn't come off as cheesy.I was really hoping for something different, actually..
heartscollide Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 I tink the general reaction will be: wtf? lulz they'll probably think that Green Day added a few more band members...
