novacaine_kid Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 The best way for them to make an impact and turn some heads, in my opinion at least, is for them to release a fast pop punk album more in the vein of their older albums, but still different enough not to be a rehash. Maybe its just wishful thinking on my part, but I'd love it if they went this way.
Hermione Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 They seem to really have a blast doing Foxboro Hottubs stuff, so hopefully that will be their next "album in between albums". For the next Green Day album... you know, they haven't disappointed me yet. In fact, they just keep blowing me away more and more. They're incredibly talented and have made awesome music for over 20 years. It's not like all of the sudden that will stop. I have faith that whatever they do next will be just as good or better than their collective work so far. They are ALWAYS progressing and getting better, IMO.My thoughts exactly. I just want them to keep doing what they love and I know I will enjoy the results! And some more Foxies would be delightful if they get the urge for it.I can't see them "revisiting" an old album, to be honest. They seem so full of creativity and they have so much further to go if they choose to. If they decided to go for a faster punk sound, recording a quick album in China like they mentioned, then that would be really interesting. But I don't see that as "going back to their old albums", it takes more than just a faster punkier sound to equate to that - I mean that sound is still an integral part of their albums, it's still there in smaller amounts. If they do something like that it'll be nice to hear them exploring that part of their repertoire but that wouldn't mean it had anything to do with any specific old album.
Moxy Crimefighter Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 in the next album, they are going to tell All the Single Punks, to put a ring on it.
Brandon R. Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 in the next album, they are going to tell All the Single Punks, to put a ring on it.Wow.
Moxy Crimefighter Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Wow.I was going to say "spiked cuff" but then I remembered that I admire that sub-culture.Imagine them dancing.....
Salmonator. Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 in the next album, they are going to tell All the Single Punks, to put a ring on it.LMAOLMAOLMAO. THEY HAVE TO DO THE DANCE ALONG WITH THE SONG. THEY HAVE TOO.
Epyon Custom Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 21CB was too cheesy for my liking, so my main request for the next album is to do away with the ballads, pianos, teenage characters, etc, and go for something heavier and also more personal. More fast songs would also be welcome. (As you can probably tell, my favorite Green Day album is also Insomniac). And I doubt Green Day will make another concept album. I'm sure they've also gotten tired of that, like we have.

Epyon Custom Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 GO BACK TO RUSSIA!It was their most personal album to date. Twas hardly cheesy.By personal, I mean more real, direct, and down-to-earth about their experiences. I'm sick of Billie Joe speaking through teenage characters going on a romantic journey. As for cheesiness, some of the songs were just overly simplistic and uninspired (which is the result of Green Day trying to stick more anthemic songs on one album), their base sound has become very generic, and lastly, the guitar solo bridges throughout the album sounded very similar and it was almost predictable how each song would progress as you got further into the album.Take Christian's Inferno as an example. Billie Joe said he wanted to create a song that was "poetically sinister" or something along those lines, but all he does to achieve the poetic part is shout "Christian's inferno!" four times in a row. Yippee...Now take Know Your Enemy. The chorus basically consists of the same line being repeated six times in a row, with one word being changed. The verses are more exciting than the chorus, since the chorus takes the same riff, makes it louder, and adds more repetitive lyrics. I doubt anyone can honestly say that they look forward to the chorus while listening to this song.Another example would be The Static Age. This just has a very simplistic, cheesy chorus. Also, the verses sound like a typical, generic pop-punk song.Lastly, let's go with See The Light. We all understand the context and meaning of the song, but the chorus just sounds whiny and far too obvious. Again, this is the result of Billie Joe trying to create anthem after anthem. Green Day's sense of self-importance got the best of them. I'm not saying they're not important, but it got to their heads with this album. Now you may think I'm some hater, but the truth is I'm a huge fan, probably as much as anyone on here. And I always want the best out of my favorite bands. I love every album form Kerplunk to American Idiot (39/Smooth isn't very good overall). Green Day is more capable than what they showed with this album.

Green Day is more capable than what they showed with this album.Firstly whenever you place the sentence 'you may think..." in any fucking argument with me you immediately lose all credibility you just had. Don't assume things when talking to me.The album uses Christian and Gloria to represent different states of mind, he's not living through the characters, the characters live through him. He is obviously caught up in two very different mindsets, It is just easier to name them rather than to delve to deeply and have people think that your borderline nutso. The characters are a front. a guide if you will.If you are stupid enough not to read further than the album only being about thse two characters and not to relize that he is refering to himself and experiences he has had, then go and buy a nickleback album. The album is ridiculously personal. The opening line of 21st Cetury breakdown confirms this "Born into Nixon, I was raised in hell..." he refers to his own birthday and his hometown. Throughout the album this continues. The static Age, spruiks one-liners like the bullshit advertisements it is all about. It then cuts loose completely and cries "All I wanna know is a Godamn thing..." That moment is a stunning point in the album, that is scarily important to many people (myself included) That song is simple, yes, but beautiful and important.I'll admit, Know your enemy isn't my favourite song, infcat I felt a tad cheated when it was realesed. But the message behind it is what makes the song a classic Green day song rather than an instant throw away.See the Light describes the shit storm from American idiot until now, and the confusion of whats to come.
Epyon Custom Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Firstly whenever you place the sentence 'you may think..." in any fucking argument with me you immediately lose all credibility you just had. Don't assume things when talking to me.I wasn't talking to you personally. I'm a new member and I just want people to understand my motives and not mistake me for a troll. It's happened far too many times on other forums, simply because I'm very critical of my favorite things. The album uses Christian and Gloria to represent different states of mind, he's not living through the characters, the characters live through him. He is obviously caught up in two very different mindsets, It is just easier to name them rather than to delve to deeply and have people think that your borderline nutso. The characters are a front. a guide if you will. That justifies the use of characters, but using teenage characters with so much romance (twice in a row) comes off as cheesy when the band is in their late-thirties. At least that's how I feel. I would prefer something more subtle and mature. Take an album like The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway for example. A similar concept about two personalities, but it's less cookie-cutter and typical in its execution. If you are stupid enough not to read further than the album only being about thse two characters and not to relize that he is refering to himself and experiences he has had, then go and buy a nickleback album. The album is ridiculously personal. The opening line of 21st Cetury breakdown confirms this "Born into Nixon, I was raised in hell..." he refers to his own birthday and his hometown. Throughout the album this continues. This is obvious. I never said Billie Joe wasn't indirectly expressing himself with the characters. Also, I realize that some of the songs, such as the title song, have no direct relation to the story. (They instead work as creating tone and context). The static Age, spruiks one-liners like the bullshit advertisements it is all about. It then cuts loose completely and cries "All I wanna know is a Godamn thing..." That moment is a stunning point in the album, that is scarily important to many people (myself included) That song is simple, yes, but beautiful and important. It breaks out and then the song ends with the chorus being repeated four times in a row (a very simplistic chorus mind you). The same was done for 21 Guns. Not to mention no meaning can justify doing something that sounds musically poor, which The Static Age does in my opinion. However, I do agree that the bridge is very good.I'll admit, Know your enemy isn't my favourite song, infcat I felt a tad cheated when it was realesed. But the message behind it is what makes the song a classic Green day song rather than an instant throw away.I like the riff and message, but like you said, the chorus comes of as uninspired. I feel that a proper chorus could have made this song a classic anthem. See the Light describes the shit storm from American idiot until now, and the confusion of whats to come.Like I said, I know the meaning behind the song. I'm just not fond of how it sounds.
