HoneyDo666 Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I got it for Christmas and it's wonderful! Great Green Day stories I had never heard before!
Abbey. Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 So I found this book online for $1...Would be perfect if shipping wasn't $12.99 all-in cost for the book of $14 aint bad tho. i already gave my copy away otherwise i wuold have shipped it over to ya.
GDM Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 Reason reviewed the book and the scene: http://reason.com/archives/2010/03/05/profane-pointlessand-profound
Abbey. Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 for anyone interested...i was in contact with silke tudor and she said that all the "extra" material that was not included in the book is on their gimme something better website.
GDM Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Someone please stop me from commenting more on that Reason article about Gimme Something Better. Is there no place in the world were people don't say "Green Day sucks"? God, it gets so old so quickly! Most of the time I let it pass, but sometimes.... I just can't stop myself!
Guest Shangri-La Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 meh. if they don't get it that's their issue. i never did get the appeal of trolling message boards and articles just to say something sucks.
GDM Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 I usually don't comment either to refute people, but for some reason, a site that is full of Libertarians with a few of them saying "Green Day sucks" just pisses me off. Really, I don't usually say anything, but it just got the best of me. haha.
corae Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 had quite a rough time to get this book... between my order and the day i finally got it more than a month had passed! but it was worth it. i really enjoyed the read it was interesting to hear from all those people how it was back then and how the scene evolved. and it turned me into listening to a lot of bands i had never even heard of.
Abbey. Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 had quite a rough time to get this book... between my order and the day i finally got it more than a month had passed! but it was worth it. i really enjoyed the read it was interesting to hear from all those people how it was back then and how the scene evolved. and it turned me into listening to a lot of bands i had never even heard of. it was nice to see this thread pop up again. although its annoying to flip back and forth to see who everyone is, it really gives you a great sense of some of the peops that have been a part of the east bay punk scene. and that story about the skinheads in sacto was precious! i was thinking about buying the 924 gilman book - that might be another good read...
BIBARAGURORIA Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 I read this book once then forgot about it. I think I probably would've enjoyed it more if the majority of people in it weren't fucking revolting. Eh, guess that taught me not to buy something just because Billie is in it.
downontelegraph Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 i loved this book. most of the people in it were pretty cool. although, there were the occasional punker-than-thou dudes with attitude, but eh. i think it was pretty awesome overall. it really made me appreciate jason white more than i already did. and i loved reading aaron's comments. it also reinforced my beliefs that billie joe is seriously one of the most grounded, sincere, and intelligent human beings.
Abbey. Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 anyone interested in supporting Gilman Street AND reading a great book about the east bay punk scene can now do both. Several bookstores in the bay area are donating a percentage of profits for this book to Gilman. gimme something better proceeds to gilman street
