Laura! Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 I LOVE this song so so much. I loved it when he played this acoustic in Detroit. It was just amazing And I love Warning My second favorite Green Day album.
minorty13 Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 aw man hearing this live was one of the best things ever I love the line "Stuffed in a coffin 10% more free" idk why but it's always been one of my favorites it's also really fun to play on guitar, the strumming is really... idk catching?
LilyMarie Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 When this song comes on my ipod, I almost always have to listen to it twice because I rediscover how much I love it. It beautifully sums up how I feel about television and the commercialism of the holiday season - not to mention how hard the media tries to commercialize childhood. Not sure how I feel about the video.
heartscollide Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Ahh I love this song. It's so beautiful, but not in a typical 'Green Day song' way. idk, it's pretty hard to explain. :/I have the acoustic version on my iPod, and I'm in LOVE with how Billie sings "dreams of hope" just WOW.
LilyMarie Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Where'd you get the acoustic version? I don't think I've ever even heard it...

Laura! Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Where'd you get the acoustic version? I don't think I've ever even heard it...They've played it live throughout the tour. You'll find plenty of live versions on youtube! I think there's one in the OP too.
sallysimpson Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 To me, this song is as brilliant and contemplative as American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown. I see this as a commentary on mass consumerism -- the mindless acquisition and disposal of tangible things. Macy's Day Parade is a clear reference to Thanksgiving -- and not the idealized holiday of gratitude and family, but the holiday that on some levels revolves around mass consumption -- food on the actual day and items on Black Friday. It's truly a scathing and sobering assessment of our society -- but it's beautifully articulated through song. If I could only listen to one Green Day song for the remainder of my life, this would be it.
insomniaticnimrod Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 "when i was a kid i thought, i wanted all the things that i havent got, oh but i learned the hardest way" i think this is my fave lyric of the song. i know that i wont always get what i want, and i live with that, its okay to me, i just wish i could get my sister to think this way too lol
heartscollide Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Where'd you get the acoustic version? I don't think I've ever even heard it...HEREIt has Tell Me When It's Time at the end though.
Guest ☼ Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 I think this is one of the beautifulest (is that a word?) songs they have ever written. The first time I ever heard it I was in shock. Sure the lyrics are not all that happy, but hey. Oh well.
Solitary One Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 I love this song, as I do with any other Green Day song, but I really love this song.
bjrules Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Yay! I love this song so much! The lyrics to this are so great. This would have to be one of my favourite Green Day songs, I would kill to hear this live acoustically. That would be seriously a dream come true.
Walking Alone Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Billie Joe played this acoustic at MSG on 7/28...it was amazinglove this song
Kayfabe Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 ♥ One of my first Green Day songs that I got into Then I realised what it took to tell the difference between thieves and crooks :/ lesson learned to me and you...

I agree on the brilliance of the song and commentary and the grotesqueness of buying sh#t is so awesomely expressed - its funny tho the parade itself has wonderful memories for me - seeing it, the inflation of the balloons the night before, seeing all the marching band kids around nyc. As for the commercialism I do have a list on my fridge of gifts that I need to get yet my heart is not in it and it makes me feel completely yuk and sukered in by all the forced purchasing.
Maddy. Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 I snorted loudly and my cat gave me the weirdest look, ahahaha. Wonderful song! I love the simplicity of the music, and the lyrics flow so well. Perfect album ender. Agreed. Although my album ends with a live version of 86. xD
Helly 77 Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 this song is my fav song ever....i prefer it over all green day songs and all the songs of the world!!! the lyrics are so so so beautiful!! this song made me huge fan of Green day and huge fan of billie joe... it cheers me up when i'm so sad... i can't get bored of it...i love to watch it live... one word PERFECTION
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Beautiful song. It isn't in my favourites, but it's still beautiful. It does really bother me though that I don't get all the references in the lyrics. I don't get that "credit report for duty call" thing mentioned in the OP (I don't know what either of those things is), and there's a couple more of those things because I don't know what the words mean, and I think there are a couple more things I just don't see the cool thing in it. Hell, I don't even know what a/the? Macy's Day Parade is. On the video, I think on the one side it's cool, and that it's all in one shot and all, and just the general atmosphere in itt, but on the other side, I know people are gonna hate me for saying this, but Billie's hair is awful in it. Really, awful. But he has a funny walk in it. Sorry for over-analyzing the video and Billie.
Princess Consuela Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 "when i was a kid i thought, i wanted all the things that i havent got, oh but i learned the hardest way" i think this is my fave lyric of the song. i know that i wont always get what i want, and i live with that, its okay to me, i just wish i could get my sister to think this way too lol Those lines have always been the most emotional of the whole song for me. I can relate it not only to 'when I was a kid' but now also. I think most people could relate it to some point of their lives as well. Beautiful song. It isn't in my favourites, but it's still beautiful. It does really bother me though that I don't get all the references in the lyrics. I know how you feel very well, Sanne My poor English certainly doesn't help to fully admire brilliance of Billie's lyrics. As for the Macy's Day :google: And the video is terrible.

It's never been one of my favorite Green Day songs, but there's something I really like about it. It's so beautiful. I love the lyrics, too.
