Nova-Caine Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 I got my wife hooked on 'em at the Washington DC show last July. She likes their Warning and 21CB-era work now (and just *dies* over Billie Joe's acoustic numbers) and was blown away by their stage presence and command of the crowd. (Going off-topic here but I just have to reply to your totally awesome and open post).....thank you for sharing! That's what it's all about, isn't it? Not having to make excuses or apologies for how you really feel, whether it's about a band, a group of friends you've made that enjoys being with each other and follows said band around, or something as serious as lifelong plans with your S.O. For me, I'm thrilled that my wife has found her own way to appreciate Green Day and now enjoys hearing about their travels, interviews, videos. She reluctantly came to the DC show with me just because it was something I wanted to do, not because she had any liking or appreciation of them at the time.....and she got wrapped up in Billie Joe's energy from the moment he screamed out "STAND THE FUCK UP!!!!" during 21CB -- and now she's almost as much of a fan as I am! Anyway, I'm really happy to hear that things have turned out so well for you and seemingly much better than you expected just a few months ago. Give him a hug for all of us and keep counting down the days til summertime!! Thanks for the above, it's good to know someone understood what I was trying to convey. For me it was never about keeping something separate from him, which he later confessed that's what he thought I was trying to do, to have my life with him and a life away from him, something just for me, but it wasn't and never was like that for me, I wanted him to be a part of it, to see why I loved being a GD fan so much, that it was just as much about the people they had brought into my life as it was about the music. We have memories from Rocktober that we will remember forever, I am glad he experienced the whole time with me and its something that we can talk about for years to come, something to even tell the kids if we ever have any lol. 'I remember when me and your dad climbed in a van for 2 weeks and followed GD around the UK' lol, He loved the energy of the shows, he loved and was in awe of Billie's showman ship, how the band fed off the crowd and got them involved at every point possible, how they bounced around the stage beaming with huge smiled on their faces and genuinely looked like they were having a good time. For me it was never about converting him but him just understanding that this was something I loved and needed, but I am happy he now see's it for what I do, if not quiet so fanatical he just accepts and lets me enjoy it with no apologies x
Luci_Minority Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 My mom...she went at the concert and now she likes Green Day sometimes when on the radio there is a GD's song she turned up the volume (if she don't I turned up ) I tried with friends but uhm... my best friend likes only WMUWSE and Last Night On Earth...better than nothing...another one some songs...another one some songs too but not so much...my classmates in this period ask me sometimes about "the name of the one of Green Day" and I need to tell them that Green Day are 3 person...one time a classmate calls me "Billie Joe" when I was playing volleyball xD I was converted by my friend. I couldn't listen to rock at all about 6 years ago. I was all pop-ish. And my friend converted herself cause she liked a guy, and his favourite band was Green Day. He's a bastard though  And I converted one of my friends. When I listen to 1st time to Green Day was the last day of school...returned to school there was a lot of people talking about GD...and also a boy very nice I liked this guy maybe that's why I was listen a lot of Green Day's music but not only for him of course (Btw...he didn't liked me and now he sing rap music xD)
Hermione Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 I converted my sister. It took a while because, like me, she just wasn't interested in rock music. I'd already loved them for a year and I kept going on about them to her. She became curious after seeing bits of Bullet In A Bible and reading the wonderful My Adventure With Green Day story , then eventually she listened to a whole album, Warning, and it clicked. Apparently it was Blood Sex And Booze that finally did it, she realized how weird and wonderful they are and fell in love with them. Now we are Green Day obsessives together
LetItBeHappy Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 my best friend is now a green day fan because of me Also, my two little cousins (one has 8 and the other has 6) loves Green Day. I actually caught them the other day watching King for a day on YouTube. It was a video where Billie started an striptease, so I had to run to turn the computer off
mitzymoo Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 ive converted my boyfriend before he met me he only knew good riddance and only new it because it was on a tv show, when he met me and realised how much i loved green day i made him listen to some songs and they announced the new album and the tour i forced him to listen to the album and go to the concert i even made him a cd (which i called dominated love slave it had mostly the songs which they would play at the concert) he listened to it but didnt really know many songs after the concert he said "Alicia i was mostly humming along to all the songs but thank you so much because that was the best concert i have ever been to thank you for introducing me to green day best fucking concert ever" and now he is hooked
-Billiejoezee- Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 lol.my fam likes GD now because of me.
Vanilla Shake Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 I converted my father, maybe because I listen to them so much. They're actually his favorite band now. I brought him with me to see them live, and he loved it. We both ended up smoking a joint in the bathroom before the show.
heartscollide Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 I think I was converted by my sister. She was in love with them in 2004/2005. But I never really listened to them until I got went on holiday and all I had was a burnt American Idiot CD.
languagenerd Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Yes I converted my friends . When I was 14/15, I was at the height of my GD addiction (I had 250 songs on my mp3 and 149 were GD!) and they were all I talked about. We used to share my mp3 player at lunch and during free classes so they had to listen! One girl credits me with her liking of GD, everyone else already listened to em on occasion, but I like to believe my constant talking about them heightened everyone else's obsession. Seven of us went to see them together this year - best concert I have ever been to, and I've been to loads!
Rebel07 Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I've tried to recruit some people but some of the people just grow to hate them cause they get tired of hearing them. But I've really gotten my mom into them a lot and I've gotten my best friend into them. Its usually just the kids I go to school with that are douchebags and won't give them a chance and i've recruited my 3 year old niece i'm very proud, heres a couple videos i got of her, one shes singing american eulogy and the other shes trying to learn their nameshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glBbv3FeThEhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCNEsniLDjs

Tubbie Head Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I convert almost everyone who gets (really) involved with me, 'cause I kind of teach them what Green Day really is, other than the things they see/hear on mtv! It's all good..=)And I just knew that the favourite song of my little one year old cousin is from GD!! she has good taste huh?!! My aunt says she starts dancing around everytime she hears the song, I don't know which one it is, but must be Know Your Enemy or something lol

HoneyDo666 Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I've converted my older sister! She's liked them since we saw them in Boston last summer and now she cheers along with me when they win at awards' shows!
Angela. Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I think I've made my best friend a Green Day fan. Back in May, I couldn't shut up about 21st Century Breakdown being released, like I'm sure a lot of you couldn't, either. Well, I told my best friend Chelsea that I'd burn her a copy of the CD and give it to her, since nobody would get my Best Buy edition of the album out of my hands. So once I got home the day I gave it to her, I went on AIM to see that she was on. And we discussed 21stCB while she listened to it the first time. It was a wonderful moment. And last month, we went on an art field trip, and I sat next to Chelsea on the bus. On the way back from the trip, Chelsea looked at the songs on my iPod, and she chose a song from 21stCB. And if that wasn't surprising enough, she knew the lyrics to the song, too! She knew Peacemaker, East Jesus Nowhere (we were both dancing in our seats to this one ), American Eulogy, and ¡Viva La Gloria!. I was so proud of her.
Li Sa Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 ooooo yes! i just converted (haha) my best friend a few weeks ago. she pretty much hated them, but i took her to see the American Idiot play. first tho, i made her read all the lyrics, then i made her listen to the CD a bunch. i copied her some older albums too. now she loooves them. and she hates me for it she says they're her guilty pleasure band i got her with The Network a few months ago too. and now she also loves Foxboro Hot Tubs. hahahaha i feel like those annoying churchy people that are always trying to convert people to their religion exactly A few of my friends are starting slowly liking them because when they want to hear music with me they only get GD first my mother hated them but she always starts whistling 21 guns when she hears it now :whistling:
