"In that time I hope to illustrate that not only was Green Day already musically mature at a time when the media painted them as mere snotty brats, but that Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is one of the greatest, most underappreciated lyricists of his generation."

I fucking love this guy lol

I love these articles. This guy covers what Dookie is all about pretty much down to a T.

I completely disagree about "Pulling Teeth"

I totally agree with him on "Pulling Teeth". Its a total drag, and its not really funny.

I never thought Pulling Teeth was supposed to be funny..? I'm pretty sure it isn't.

I agree with him on Pulling Teeth. It's a nice song, and I like it, but in the album it's kinda, yeah....

edit: haha i'm not sure if I made it clear, I like the song (and I disagree on the thing that it's not funny and all that stuff), just not the way it acts in the album.

oh just fuck it I can't explain what I think anymore. Ignore this post :)

I was really surprised about that. I figured I was the only person that felt that way about Pulling Teeth. I find it really annoying sometimes, especially Billie's voice.

Don't beat me.

I absolutely love Pulling Teeth :D so I don't really agree with him on that one. But sill, I like reading these articles.

I think Pulling Teeth is hilarious. Mike broke both his arms in a pillow fight ffs! How is that not funny?

I see what you did there

The Pulling Teeth review is pretty poor, these reviews are impressing me less and less as the series goes on.

I think he misses the point when he says only those who find violence against men funny would be amused by the song. It's not simply the idea of violence against men that's meant to be funny, it's having such a dark subject set to such a poppy, sing-along tune. I think this kind of odd, dark humour used in the song epitomizes Green Day and makes Pulling Teeth an essential song on the album.

What a shame these articles are getting shorter and crappier. He should've written the whole thing first and then published it. It seems rushed.

I think Hermione should have written this one! Pulling Teeth is one of my favorite Green Day songs.

if you can dislike an entire album based on one song you may need to open your mind a bit.

I only saw what I did there after you laughed at it.

Nice! Did you write your this comment to him? You should! I like your POV.

And yes, I think Zoe is right, these seem rushed now, they did start pretty good, but maybe they will build again. He could probably get a bit more background on the songs when he writes about them. We'll see!

no, it wasn't just because of that. It was like "ok, I can listen 1,039/SOSH without changing any song, so I'll listen to that instead of Dookie, because I would need to find the remote or I'll get impatient. Besides, I didn't know what the fuck was this record about. This year I finally decided to listen to it reading the lyrics, and it was like "oh my, now I understand why everyone loved it". Then I bought it and now I have my discography, and I can listen to it... but I still get this "have to change this song" feeling every time I get to Pulling Teeth.

(funny thing, is that I was on the bus and this song stick to me)

I like the Basket Case article:

For much of the first verse/chorus pairing, only singer/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong is playing on the track, instantly grabbing the listener’s attention with an unforgettable introductory monologue:

Do you have the time

To listen to me whine

About nothing and everything all at once?

I am one of those

Melodramatic fools

Neurotic to the bone no doubt about it

The first verse alone sells the song. Really, all the words afterwards merely sustain the impact of those initial lines. In my opinion, no one in the 1990s was better at self-effacing song lyrics than Billie Joe Armstrong
