I didn't say it was non-existent, I said it was fairly small in number, which is true.

Though it is a small number Australians really have no reason to be there at all except to kiss the United States' ass.

Which was my point.

Surely they would've bleeped the swearing on the radio anyway?

Yeah, they would have, and the version he showed us was a censored version, so that makes it even weirder that he got offended by it.

Oh, and he got offended because he said that the people who made this song should be grateful that they live in such a great country, and it is horrible that people whinge about where they live when there are people much worse off elsewhere, or something like that, it was really weird. I'm not worried that he didnt like the song, just mainly that he was trying to force his opinions on us, and me in particular.

that's great my australian friend..we love gd and we are not afraid to show this...

I don't know how the Australian school system works, but if my daughter had been treated like that at a UK state school, I would definitely be complaining to the head teacher. But then, I am a Green Day loving atheist, not all that common amongst parental types....

And I would certainly be congratulating her for having the balls to step out from the crowd and stand up for her opinion. :)

So this guy thinks it's wrong to point out your country's faults? What, we should never try to change anything? We shouldn't bother voting, maybe? Amnesty shouldn't campaign for human rights in, say, Nigeria because China is worse? FFS. What a tool.

Nah I don't consider GD music offensive.

He hasn't hot any idea of what that song is about. I can't imagine what he will think if he listens to East Jesus Nowhere. And Green Day aren't offensive, it's just that they tell what they see.

hahaha!! wtf? sorry but you're priest is crazy! lol hahaha, don't let him hear east jesus nowhere lol hell have a heart attack!lol

omg thats just ridiculous !!!! i mean come on offensive ? american idiot ? it's a song with fucking amazing lyrics and it really has a message to fuck all those coservative republicans !!! right ? so hell yeah i love american idiot =) =) =)

American Idiot is not offensive! That priest offended me for saying American Idiot is offensive. Green Day kicks ass and they do care about what they have.

Either way it kind of sucks he chose to teach a morality lesson using a Green Day song. There's a lot of other shit out there he could use.

Such as rap, which most often pushes sexism, drugs, violence, and extreme sexual content/lyrics? I mean, really, rap is like 35482465838046573856times worse.

It makes sense that he would get offended, just because of the whole religious aspect thing. But I loved how he played it more than once, anyway...

Posted
when the song finished the priest was like "Now put your hand up if you found that offensive" and nobody put their hand up. So then he's said "I'm going to play it again, so take a closer listen." So he plays the song again, and asked the question again, and of course nobody put their hand up.

Haha . What a huge fail on his part.

wow thats really pushing it too far.

You dont go to school to be subjected to peoples rants about their personal opinion on things.

Our society will gain a collective IQ point when we no longer bleep profanity.

It will also gain a colletive iq point when they will stop being afraid to mention anything sexual or show anything relating to the human body on TV. Compared to Europe and their openess on sexuality and the human body this nation is a bunch of prudes.

Good for your class for not raising your hands at first, and good for you for saying you liked it... he sounds like an uptight, unhappy guy to be honest. I know everyone has a right to their own opinions, but I do think it's a waste of energy to get so offended about music.

The funny thing is, there's a good chance that this guy and Billie are the same age. Write him a letter explaining that he has no idea what the song is about if he gets offended by it.

EDIT: OH! It might be, in the lyric: The subliminal mindfuck, america. He could have heard it as: the subliminal mind, fuck america (like I did the first few times i heard it)

I always thought it it was "mindfuck America", like, y'know, one phrase describing America.

Anywho.

The OP goes to a school where your priest plays American Idiot instead of like, praying?

Wtf, that's so badass.

The priest was probably offended because, well, let's face it. The song isn't exactly easy listening.

The lyrics are raw and personal, pissed off rant at what the american society had become. Just because the song mentions America, doesn't mean that it is just addressing america.

I mention that because many were saying "why would Australians find it offensive?" Australia has essentially become America's bitch. Every program is american on TV, American artists overtake our airwaves (not necessarily a bad thing, just saying, American commercials are everywhere. Our nation/continent is the most advertised nation in the world (sadly, I'm not making that up) We have more bullshit bombarded at us than (I'm pretty damn sure, and believe me, I've traveled overseas alot) any country in the world.

That's why the song could quite possibly offend prudish, right-winged, Australians who are ridiuclously self-centred and refuse to believe anything is wrong.

*end sloppy, plot-hole filled rant *

Also, let's be honest, American idiot wasn't exactly a happy, lovey dovey, "we are the world" album. Amy extreamist of any religion would be rather pissed by it I think and not just your asshole of a priest. :)

This is why I hate it so much when people within religious communities feel the need to force feed their own subjective personal opinions on their "followers". So what if he found it offensive, why bring it up at all. There is a hell of a lot more offensive songs than American Idiot out there. Maybe he should try listening to some Gwar or Divine Heracy.
