Princess Consuela Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 ^ You mean this?http://znam.to/userfiles/R/005/R005-290531d.jpg
Rosie May Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 I really don't like the lyrics of 1,000 hours or Dry Ice, I just find them too cheesy. I know it's sweet and all but it's, I dunnoway too corny. I actaully find it hard to listen to either of those songs without cringing. "She's old enough to bleed now" - Drama Queen. I don't really like or dislike this lyric I just think it's really strange, I wonder what he was thinking about when he wrote it.
Maddy. Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 "She's old enough to bleed now" - Drama Queen. I don't really like or dislike this lyric I just think it's really strange, I wonder what he was thinking about when he wrote it.There was this whole discussion about that. That it was about a girl's period... xDI don't think so, I think he means that the girl is old enough to get hurt or something...
greendaygal89 Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 You don't like that lyric?? lol i read the title of the thread wrong i read it as fav line from a GD song i LIKE that line lmaoWhat's wrong with that? nothing lol i read the name of the thread wrong lmao i love that line
Rae'n'shine Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 oh, it's more clear now Glad it makes some sense.Oh, and I totally agree about "I've got a really bad disease." But the rest of the song makes up for the opening line.
Kaddi. Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 I actually don't understand what's so bad about "I've got a really bad disease"...
colour_me_stupid_ Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Neither do I :/ I mean addictions are a disease in themselves.. Meh. Each to their own sure!
boosho Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Hrmmm, its very interesting reading everyone's post, but I am not sure why are people taking the literal meaning of these lines?? A line like "I've got a really bad disease" its not supposed to mean that he actually has a bad disease, in my view its about how now everyone has some sort of disease or sydnrome, everyone is diagnosed with something. And how you need to be on medication for thest conditions, even here in australia if you go to a Dr and tell them your upset about something they put you on freaking medication. Sorry i got a bit sidetracked but in my opinion thats what this line is about, as opposed to it being a literal translation that he does have a disease. Also the line about "I text a post card sent to you, did it go through" i think this is another brilliant line, because its saying that now people deal with relationships through texting instead of sending post cards.. Now these are my personal take on these lines, but my point is Billie Songwriting is brilliant because its not supposed to be taken literally, you get to disect it whichever way you want.. And that why we love him..
Rae'n'shine Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 I don't like the opening line because really it doesn't leave me wanting to know more. When you open a song, you want to get the listener interested in what you have to say, so the opening line has to really grab you. When I first heard "I've got a really bad disease" in my head I thought, ok...so what? Since it was a Green Day song, I knew it would get better from that line on so I kept listening and RHS it is really one of my favorite songs off the album. It's just a really weak way to start a song, especially one as great as RHS.
Tiffx Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 "She's old enough to bleed now" - Drama Queen. That lyric just reminds of a girl getting her period. I don't like it at all.
Hermione Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 I think the period reference is deliberate. He's using the idea of a girl becoming old enough to literally 'bleed' as a metaphor for when a girl becomes old enough to have to deal with emotional problems, relationships, responsibility etc. I like the oddness of the double meaning but I can see why it might be a bit off-putting
Tiffx Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 Haha well I see how that it may be deliberate. I just don't want to think about menstrual cycles when listening to Green Day. Also the line about "I text a post card sent to you, did it go through" i think this is another brilliant line, because its saying that now people deal with relationships through texting instead of sending post cards..I love that line. I mentioned before how it's supposed to be ironic which is what makes it so brilliant.
Princess Consuela Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 The only thing that bothers me about Drama Queen is 'You better call a lawyer'. Not because I don't like this line, it just doesn't fit in the song, imo. Like everything rhymes apart from that one
Tashidge Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 I've never really thought about it to be honest. When I listen to Green Day, it's not like I'm going to sit there witha pen and paper dissecting all the songs into which lines I like or not or even their meaning. The songs are open to interpretation, which is what the thread's about but as I said, I don't really think about it.

Rae'n'shine Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 Whisper, "are you dying?" in my earjust really depressing hahaThat's my favorite line of Rotting. :/
Tashidge Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 The line "The clock is laughing in my face" from Brain Stew reminds me of that painting of droopy melting clocks... I don't like that painting, it's scary.yeah and very line you dont like write down and send it to the guys lmaoLols. "You really need to sort this out, I don't like it. Write all your songs again until I deem them acceptable."Ridiculous.
Juliette Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 The line "The clock is laughing in my face" from Brain Stew reminds me of that painting of droopy melting clocks... I don't like that painting, it's scary.I love that line! Cause it's like, you know in shops they always have the clocks set at 10 to 2 cause it's meant to look like a smile or whatever, supposed to look like a happy face apparently. So it's kinda mocking that idea, and also when you have insomnia it does feel like the clock is just kinda teasing you cause I always end up staring at it like every 5 minutes wishing it wasn't getting so early.

Bubbles. Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 I really, really don't have a "least favourite" anything when it comes to Green Day lol
Spider Tre Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 as of right now, i don't have a line that i 'dislike'i guess it's because it's 2:30 in the morning and i've never really thought about a line i didn't like haha
Mar Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 For what it's worth, I have my own theory about this --Billie now and again references authors in his songs: Jack London (Call of the Wild in "Peacemaker"), EAP in St Jimmy, and of course JD Salinger's Catcher in the Rye (Who Wrote Holden Caufield -- which has great lyrics). Jack London is from the Bay Area and there's a square dedicated to him in Berkeley -- I suspect that the cadence and Billie's own familiarity with Jack London probably prompted that lyric. And I think a similar thing may have happened with St Jimmy. Billie wrote some of AI in NYC, which is where Edgar Allen Poe lived -- in fact there's a cafe on West 84th and B'way called Edgar's because Poe once lived in that building (great cheesecake, btw). Although brilliant, Poe was self-destructive and eventually died of alcoholism, homeless and penniless. So I think in that line "I am the son of a bitch and Edgar Allen Poe" you get St Jimmy's outwardly focused destructiveness and his self-destructiveness. That's how I read it, at least.A crutch, metaphorically, is something you might use to avoid taking responsibility for your life. For example, drugs are a crutch; so is retail therapy. Anything you use to check out of life is a crutch because you essentially make yourself dependent on that thing to get you through (hopefully this is making sense). You're very eloquent, I completely agree with both of these posts! It's just a bunch of niggers throwing gas into the hysteriaThis isn't a BAD lyric by any means, in fact, I think it's a great lyric. I completely understand what he's trying to say, and it's one of those that when I hear it, I get an image in my head of somebody like Glenn Beck or Sean Hannity (or other "martyrs" who are "compulsive liars") saying that as a means to rile up their audience. However, it honestly makes me feel uncomfortable personally, just because I hate the n-word. I don't like to sing along to it, and I think that line alone is what will keep this song from being a single, sadly. Because while I know Billie does not mean the lyric in a derogatory way, and I know that he's criticizing the people who would say that, I feel like the point would be lost on a lot of people and they would flip out over the lyric, misinterpreting it. So, in a way, it's one of both my favorite and least favorite lyrics!
