Juliette Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 I really like the "From another place in time, where my family's from" line, just cause it kinda reminds me that I'm seperate from the rest of my family, which isn't a good thing but it sort of gives it meaning for me. Gahblkgkex I can't explain!
Isabel Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 I like the lyric becuase it allows Pinocchio to be connected with the subject's tongue, so the part of him/her that would actually be "physically" speaking the lie. I think it ties in nicely with the following line about the noes growing (also a referene to Pinocchio). It just ties together for me.Yeah, I think that's a fantastic line! It sounds so simple when you think about it, but I could never come up with something as clever as that!
Psycho Britney Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 I know this sounds cheesy, but I genuinely feel privilaged and grateful for the music that GD share with us. Yes there are a few lyrics that I might not love as much some-but it's all relative to me. I also appreciate the fact that I know I'd never be able to write all the amazing things they do, so I enjoy what they write for us!
Isabel Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 'I've given my heart and my soul'You don't like that lyric??
Rae'n'shine Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 I don't like the line "Batteries are not included" from Static Age.
Psycho Britney Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 ^See I like that line because I think it's really clever-all the gadets and stuff we buy now normally have that sort of message. I just thought it was commenting on the 'modern world' and the materialist commerical nature of it, and how it's 'in your face'!...But that's just my interpretation of it...(I'm going to hide now!)
KelRen Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 'I've given my heart and my soul'yea that's so lame.....
Hermione Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Maybe because this is a forum where we discuss things. Not every thread has to be about praising everything Green Day does because we all know they are an amazing band. That's why most of us are part of this forum. Personally, I think it's okay to have a thread just talking about our least favourite lyrics in songs. Some people might really think certain lyrics are off and just not like them. I see nit picking as analysing and I don't think that undermines Billie's songwriting. It gets boring when every thread is about how wonderful everything Green Day does is. It's refreshing to hear different perspectives. I hope I'm not sounding bitchy or anything, I don't mean it like that at all. It's more some of the reasons that people are giving for disliking a line. Because they don't understand it? Because they don't relate to it? Of course it's fine to have a personal dislike for a line for those reasons but to then imply that those things make it a "bad" line....I just don't think that's accurate or an enjoyable way to look at music. You don't sound bitchy by the way I hope I don't either
ad0lfpiffler Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 It's just a bunch of niggers throwing gas into the hysteria

Isabel Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 yea that's so lame.....That's one of my favourite lines!
Guest Hayley Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Erm I'm not sure. I have to think about it.
Clayish Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Wow. I'm pretty sure all the of the lines in this thread are great lines, especially Before The Lobotomy. All of 21CB is a lyrical beast.
rinu Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 'I've given my heart and my soul'What's wrong with that?
RobyRoom Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 I don't like the line "Batteries are not included" from Static Age.I love this line and it's totally linked to the previous line "not what's in the medicine". It means that we need real truths, real answers to our questions not stupid hackneyed phrases. This song is the story of a person struggling to find concrete answers while the society and the media are stiring up confusion.

It means that we need real truths, real answers to our questions not stupid hackneyed phrases. This song is the story of a person struggling to find concrete answers while the society and the media are stiring up confusion.I mean, I love this song for that reason. I don't know why I don't like that line, just when I hear it...it kind of rubs me the wrong way. I just felt like that song is so strong, lyrically to me, that when I heard that line, it was pretty weak compared to the rest of the song. That's really the only line I can think of off the top of my head.
Anja Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Yeah same.I've never listened to a song and thought 'wow, this lyric's a bit shit'.I completely agree with that. But now, after reading this thread I noticed that there actually are lines I either don't understand because of the language or find a little absurd.'I don't want to live in a modern world' is the only line I can think of right now.May I ask why? Don't you agree with that? I personally love this line. It's simple and honest.Agreed. I hate to say it but I think 1000 hours owns Last Night On Earth. I just like it better.Same here. 1000 hours is one of my favorite songs, no matter how corny the lyrics are (since english isn't my native language, it's different for me to sing along to english songs anyway)I'm a huge fan of Billie's lyrics and I've got an immeasurable amount of enjoyment from them. I suppose if I was to choose my least favourite it would have to be some of the slightly cringy ones from the early days, maybe "hey old man in woman's shoes I wonder if he knows I think he's crazy? When he was young did he have dreams of wearing woman's shoes and being crazy?"There's something about this line I don't like either. It sounds like it was written by a 11 year old I see crutch as being something to hold on to, to hold on to reality.. so i've never seen it as weird.. imoA crutch, metaphorically, is something you might use to avoid taking responsibility for your life. For example, drugs are a crutch; so is retail therapy. Anything you use to check out of life is a crutch because you essentially make yourself dependant on that thing to get you through (hopefully this is making sense). That's a great theory! This thread actually taught me something tonight which is great Thanks for that. Also, "...let them eat my flesh down to the wood" seems a little odd to me. I don't really get it.
Justagirl1984 Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 "I got a really bad disease..." just idk I agree with you on that one. I just find it so awkard and wierd.
Kaddi. Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 I love that bit. Cause it's like linking the 2 songs and that. From Know Your Enemy, then to saying that you ARE your enemy. Idk.Same here. Everytime I listen to KYE and Billie sings "Do you know the enemy? Do you know your enemy?" I'm like "I am my own worst enemy" I love that part, because I can totally relate to it.
RobyRoom Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 I mean, I love this song for that reason. I don't know why I don't like that line, just when I hear it...it kind of rubs me the wrong way. I just felt like that song is so strong, lyrically to me, that when I heard that line, it was pretty weak compared to the rest of the song. That's really the only line I can think of off the top of my head.oh, it's more clear now
Princess Consuela Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 May I ask why? Don't you agree with that? I personally love this line. It's simple and honest.Damn, I honestly don't know how to explain it. I mean, it's not that I hate it or whatsoever. It just sounds a bit too uuum corny? I don't know if that's the right word. But the rest of American Eulogy is absolutely brilliant
Princess Consuela Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 I love corny. I don't mind most of the time
