The GDA Green Day Roots Tour of 20?

Man, see that's the kind of thing I want to do for Green Day shows. I don't get to go to concerts that much, and so many people on here have been to like 4 or more Green Day shows all within a month or less. I think that would be amazing. I think the band loves it when fans are at multiple shows like that. I really wish I could do it. I almost feel like I'm not a good Green Day fan for only going to one show. I know that's stupid, but it still sort of feels that way. That's why I will be damned if I don't get this road trip thing to happen. Even if it's a little later than I anticipate or with not as many people as I'd like, it's going to happen, damn it! Lol.

You're not a bad fan for only going to one show. When they came over here in August, I only went to two shows because that was all I could afford at the time. You should make your way over here for the second leg of the North American Tour and see as many shows as you can on your budget and time constraint. Even if it's only one show, it'll be worth it, I can guarantee it. :)

But see that's the thing. I start work at Disney in Feb. It's not just a regular job either. It's part of an internship program. I'll be living in an apartment at Disney while working there. I won't be able to schedule any time off for 90 days. So I just hope they don't come back until after I can get some time off to go see them. It would be cool, and insanely luck, if they were in FL on my regular days off. From what I hear from people who are on the program at Disney, you really only get one day off a week. In any case, I'm happy that I got to see them in August, and I'm damn sure it won't be my last time seeing them. It's just gonna suck if they come back and I can't get out of work to see them :(

I honestly don't think they'll play anymore U.S. dates until after their U.K. shows in June. So I think you'll be able to get the time off. :)

Sweet... now comes the saving up money part. I'm still gonna keep saving for this road trip, but when I start working at Disney, I'll be making less than minimum wage here since it's an internship. However, depending on my location (won't know until I start) I might have well over 50 hour a week. :) But this is slightly veering off topic...

damn. this is a really great idea.

just sucks for people like me, who are stuck with school and also being 16 TT-TT

that AND parents that trust....well really no one.

I'm so doing something like this soon. Been planning it out for over 5 years.

My idea will probably take longer than yours though. Also seeing as I'm from Ireland (though I might be in PA by then or possibly Hawaii) but whatever...

Good luck with it all :)

If something comes of it make sure to post about it!

For sure. In fact, if this thing does happen the way I'm imagining it, I'd want to document the adventure on film. Maybe even make a DVD or something, lol. But I was wondering if this thread could get pinned? I'm really really serious about planning this trip and I'd love (and need) all the help I can get. If this remains at the top of the page with the other pinned threads, then I feel it will receive much more input from newer members or those who haven't visited in a while. If that's against the rules for me to ask or anything, then don't worry about it.

Damn, that's crazy! I've always wanted to go on a cross-country road trip. Unfortunately (or fortunately, maybe :D) I'm here in the east bay. So you're gonna try to come out to the free show?

No, I was going to try to see the free show, but I'm broke so that can't happen. But that's when I thought of doing this road trip in a few years. You're in the East Bay? Do you think in about 3 to 4 years we could crash at your place? Lol

I've got family that lives not too far from the East Bay, pretty damn big house too.

Depending when this is planned for i might already be out there or would just jump on board

the trip with the van my friend and i are taking for a roadtrip out anyway

and we could crash out at my uncles in Cali. for a few nights and such.

For me, The Gilman St. Project is one of the big spots for this tour. I really would like to see a few shows here. Also, from the suggestion of Kleptomaniac, Rudy's Can't Fail Cafe (Mike Dirnt's Restaurant). I'm also thinking of places like East 12th St., Stuart & the Ave., El Sobrante, Pinole, all those kinds of places. I'm open for suggestions of more places.

Add Christie Road and Embers to your list. And about Pinole: There isn't really anything worth seeing in my opinion. Depends on what you want to see there. Valles High School, I assume?

Hell yeah! See, I've seen you & your group's adventures through Facebook. If you don't mind me asking, how much did that cost? Air fare, hotels, concert tickets, food...etc? Because that would be quite an epic adventure as well!

May I add you on Facebook?

And I like the fact that you're from Kissimee :D I went there for holiday a few years ago but I don't really remember anything from there :/

Alright so last night, through a discussion on Twitter with Kerrie (@eerienite or Kleptomaniac here on the GDC), this glorious idea was born. It started with me talking about how I just needed about $700 to fly out to California for that free show on the 23rd. I have family in Thousand Oaks, CA so all I'd need to worry about is the airfare. Well since this idea was more of a pipe dream than practical, I started thinking about something else.

What if I bought a used van through Craigslist or something, picked up some local east coast Green Day fans, and took a road trip out to Berkley, CA? Google Maps said it would take about a day and 20 hours from my home address to Gilman itself. I'm thinking I could get a van here, then go to a few states on this coast to pick up some fans (especially from the GDC) then heading out west. We could even go have a group lunch at Rudy's Can't Fail Cafe. Since this trip would be totally unofficial or "independent" I think it would be cool to promote the GDA/GDC along the way. I'm thinking an awesome paint job on the van, as well as like getting a bunch of bumper stickers and stuff to pass out along the way. I'm not trying to ask for a sponsorship from the GDA or anything like that. Just want to represent :)

I'm dead serious about doing this trip. I think it would be some of the best times I, and anyone who participates, will have. I know that there needs to be a LOT more planning and even more saving involved. I start work in February, so I'll probably be saving up for at least two years. I don't like asking people for money, so I'm not sure how much a seat in the van should cost for gas, etc. I know there are some awesome people here who I hope want to collaborate and help plan this thing. I realize that we all have lives full of responsibilities and this may kind of seem like a far-fetched idea, but I think we could make it happen... someday. So what do you guys think?

EDIT: The title of this thread was supposed to be "The GDA Green Day Roots Tour of 20??"

I think it would be a bit more than 20 hours.

its about 2800 miles that would take you about 43 hours.
