I'm sure others have done recaps by now, but here's mine:

I had trouble sleeping the night before, and ended up waking up later than I wanted (though 6 am is none too shabby). The night before, I had asked my friend and fellow green day obsessor Molly to hold me a spot in line in return for breakfast and coffee (which I did bring). However, when I arrived there around 9, after a great amount of searching, I discovered that the meeting area, a staircase, was not at all a line, but rather just groups of people waiting to be given further instructions. IMG00429.jpg

Every so often, a security lady would come by to give us little, if any, news about what was going on. Still, no official line was formed. It was great seeing fellow green day fans from past shows, and to talk about green day without feeling like a creeper weirdo. Which is one of the major reasons why I love green day shows (especially the small ones) so damn much. The other reasons come later in this recap.

So around noon, after much migration around the stairs and a dissatisfaction with the disorganization of the 1iota people, those of us waiting took it upon ourselves to make a line. We were respectful to one another (as good fans should be) and raunchy (as to be expected). We all started having worries about the mess that the 1iota people could make of the line (like at the LA Forum), but we did our best to remain optimistic. Time seemed to drag on forever. We were all worried about Billie Joe being sick (his voice was cracking the night before during Green Day's performance at the AMA's). About 2 or 3, the 1iota people, dressed in t-shirts everyone in line wanted, came over and started moving our line forward down the block. Not to enter, just to put us behind barriers. IMG00432.jpg

For the people at the front of the line (like me) it was behind these barriers that the 1iota people checked our tickets and gave us our wristbandsIMG00433.jpg. But still more waiting was to come. At about 5 ish they came around to the contest winners to give them the cameras they wanted the winners to shoot footage of the concert with. It was also around this time we heard the band practicing "Maria" in full. Which nobody has mentioned yet.

In addition, several members of the 1iota staff were constantly followed by camera crews, recording them as they completed what looked like pretty mundane tasks.

At 5:30-ish, the 1iota people moved the lines and divided them up by hundreds into slots which were originally going to be used to get the audience into alphabetical order. At first their was some confusion over how they'd start letting people into the stage area. During this waiting time, Jnine informed me that supposedly a secret Foxboro show was planned for today, but due to billie joe's illness the show was cancelled. In the end, they 1iota people managed to keep us in order of arrival, meaning it was pretty fair. Most of us in the front of the first line were smart enough to take everything out of our pockets before they searched, so it went pretty quickly. I was in the first group of ten people to get through, and as the rest of the line started getting through, about a couple of seconds after us, we got sent through a maze of barriers, the first small group being slowly caught up to by the larger group, like indiana jones and that giant stone ball. As we ran through, "Murder City" was playing. It really added to the excitement of the whole thing. We thought it was a recording at first. Then we realized it was live!!!! We finally got to the end of the maze, which was in and of itself a barrier. They stopped us there. We had no idea was was going on, except the 1iota kept filming us and asking us to phone in cheers. Which was pretty lame. We just waited for a little while. At about 7ish, we started hearing their sound check. Nobody could actually see the band, but we heard them loud and clear. And they heard us too. Including our request for Panic Song, which I'll get back to later. Anyways, the band began playing so many songs I've never heard live. Ever. Some songs they couldn't finish because Billie Joe forgot the words, like "Nice Guys Finish Last." It happens. But they sounded great, despite billie joe being "sick." It was incredible. As we all stood there, singing along, even without seeing the band, it was heaven. It really was, and it is one of the other main reasons why I love Green Day shows so much. They played "I want you to want me," which was so wonderful. After the soundcheck ended, we waited a little while again. Then the 1iota people came around to let us into the pits. They warned us not to push and shove, or run to get to the front of the group. However, many an asshole decided to ignore such warnings. Most of us in the front got punched and shoved around pretty hard and it was really obnoxious. We asked them to stop and they just wouldn't quit (Rossstar, I'm looking at you). All of the respect we had shown each other in line seemed to disappear, which was really sad.

I got a pretty good spot, right on the barriers: IMG00445.jpg.

We all needed water pretty badly, but the bouncers refused to get us any, and instead took pleasure in our suffering as they chugged their own water bottles in front of us. After a bunch of fake new years stuff, and beth yelling at Mike the roadie, seeing Joey Armstrong walk on and across stage, and boredom, the band finally went on. Of course the crowd went ape shit. There was no real set list. And no real schedule for the pyrotechnics, which was so great. Before they played "Murder City" a second time, Billie joe and mike started playing some riffs from "Panic Song" which made my life. Tre signing "Dominated Love Slave" also made my life. And the "Adam Lambert" magic trick was pretty hilarious.

The show itself was not as long as we would have all hoped it would be. But we were all thankful for the opportunity to see the boys again. In the end, it was a pretty great show, especially considering it was free. I can't wait to relive it come new years. And I hope to see my Green Day fans again soon.

Was anyone without a ticket able to get in?

in my opinion, last night's set lists was one of the best ones I've ever heard live...overall, the show was great but i was surrounded by a bunch of people that weren't really into the show which sucked. i couldn't get to the nokia theater early enough yesterday to be up in the front cuz of school so i was stuck somewhere in the middle. but the set list was just amazing!

I agree. So many obscure songs. It was heaven.

I always wonder why people rush to get to the very front in some crazed frenzy....and then they don't know anything other than maybe Know Your Enemy, 21 Guns and a few tracks from American Idiot. It's not so much irritating anymore, because I saw it at all 4 shows I went to. It's just...strange.

I don't understand why you'd bother wanting to get to the front if you don't know 90% of the songs :/

I don't even understand why you would go to a Green Day show if you only knew a few songs. I mean

1. the tickets are expensive

2. they sell out pretty fast so you really have to make the effort to find out exactly where / when they go on sale

3. in order to get to the front you usually have to be there fairly early. why would you spend hours queuing, or doing any of this stuff for that matter, if you only know a few songs ?!

I know that it was not that serious but billie was sick? so that's why another show got canceled?

Oh my gosh. Laughing so much at Serena Williams tweets. How cute!! :)

I'm kinda sad to see people being all pissy that they played these amazing songs. Why can't ye just be happy for the people who got to hear it?! I mean yeah, I wish I was there more than anything but it's not right to be saying you wish they hadn't played that and stuff..

Bah anyways...

I hope lots of videos turn up! :)

Does anyone want to have a guesstimate at how many people were in the crowd (including people who didn't have tickets and stuff)

That is awesome

Apparently, they WERE going to do a Tubs secret show, but they decided not to because the band wanted a rest.

I've got some pics coming for you guys. I took screencaps from some of the videos. And yes I got one of Mike pretending to give Billie a blowjob

Edit: Where did you all hear of a secret show?

I was going with the flow of traffic. Zoe was leading the way. Sorry if I bumped into you, but I definately didn't shove or punch anyone. I have never done that in my life.
