It's a casting of some sort it sounds like! Somehow these peeps must be being utilized into the show and obviously on camera or else it wouldn't be a "casting". This IS for a TV special remember.

I'm kind of glad I didn't get chosen because there would be no way I could be in LA at that time. I would have just been pissed for the night. Lol.

Yeah, the original email said that they're looking for 4 die-hard Green Day fans and they'll email you back if they want to interview you. Like sending in a job application. If your application is chosen and liked you still have to go in and interview for the positions the place has available.
