its a mark of how good this video is, no-one has moaned that the song has been cut!

Yeah well but there hardly is any cutting, I don't even notice it sometimes :ninja:

Are you talking about the intro???

Because See the light has the same intro so i guess it's not like a actual part of the song...

Anyway it seems a bit U2ish to me :ermm:

it is part of the song, but i thionk it is better without it anyway.

and i think they cut part of the solo. but im not sure.

I thought they cut half of the chords somewhere in the middle, I'll watch where and what.

But tbh since we have this video I haven't listened the album version of the song :ninja:

edit: Yeah, it's shorter before the "class of 13" part. But I think that's all.

yeah. It's better without the intro.

This album has contoversial intro though

The 21GUNS one is basically the same as The saints are coming...

Yeah, as a song on itself and single it's better without the intro, but when you listen the whole album the intro adds something to it.

I still haven't seen this on tv. I don't get it. It's such an awesome vid, it should be aired everyday!
Aired everyday, aired every hour

I guess you could try TMF or Viva in the NL. In the UK MTV TWO showed it every hour for 20 hours yesterday.

Yes, it is a damn good video, but, as discussed, there are a couple of acceptable edits (mainly the intro) unlike 21 Guns which was butchered. It is irritating to read about people saying good the 21 Guns single is, when the album version is soooo much better. But then releasing the singles from 21CB has been a 50% total f*ck up so far.

I think 21CB was a potential No 1 single, I would be surprised now.

They cut most of the guitar solo but it doesn't sound

bad, you don't even really hear it, unlike 21 Guns.. I just hate

the single version. But they probably did that because the album

version was too long & kinda slow with the intro
:pinch:

I think the TMF over here sucks even more than MTV. TMF only has these stupid series and challenges and whatnot. They only play top 40 music when those aren't on.

MTV has a few charts and 'brandnew' and sometimes 'm is for music'.

I guess we have to wait a bit longer to see 21CB over here.

It's even worse here, MTV doesn't work from 6AM

till 6PM - that's Nickelodeon time. And when finally Nickelodeon

is finished, the only things you can see on MTV are sweet 16

and other crap like that. I think i haven't seen a videoclip on

MTV for years

But i think it's just a matter of time, i mean, KYE and 21Guns

weren't on tv when their singles came out, we had to wait about

1 or 2 weeks to see them T_T I dunno if it's the same in Holland...

Oh I'm sure TMF sucks more. They only play the same top 40 music all the time, IF they play music. (and once a week there's TMF Rockt, which is okay but it's only once a week and they don't play Green Day very often, while you'd expect them to do so with the new album and singles and such.)

Are those TV channels? They don't exist where I live

Same here! MTV shows everything but music 10am-3am or something like that. That sucks! They even have movies now, movies on MTV and not music, that's insane  ... 1 or 2 weeks, i'll go crazy but i'm waiting for it anyways.

Ok, sorry about that. A few years ago TMF was a good channel, I often watched in coffeeshops in my younger days. fwiw I have only seen 21CB played on MTV owned TV channels which in the UK includes MTV 2, VH-1 and TMF.

IS there a point in the album where gloria gets pregnant? Ive been looking to see if I could find any clues but nothing

okay here's my take on the pregnancy (which also alters my previous views of the album's story line):

Gloria and Christian are the 'born into Nixon'. they're the ones who've been strugging with debt and crisis one after another, (such as christian's inferno, talking about his father. Last Night on Earth, talking about his parent's love, etc).

that child that they have is the class of 13.

his is telling the story of his parents throughout the album (as in, he's the narrator as established in Song of the Century).

and by Act 3 he is applying it to his life (such as Static Age and American Eulogy).

Bythe time See The Light is comes back to C&G, along with 'class of 13', each of them are reflecting on their own lives.

and that is wwaayyy different than i thought before.

I'm not sure i understood everything :/ dyou mean the narrator is

C&G's kid? But is he even mentioned in the album? And if i remember well,

didn't Billie say Last Night on Earth was dedicated to Adrienne?

Anyway, according to you the whole album is telling C&G's story except for

Song of the Century, Static Age and American Eulogy? (or am i completely

stupid and wrong? ><)

Yeah they are, but i think they're only available in the NL (except

for TMF)

Well i guess sweet 16 sells itself better than music

maybe you'll be luckier than people in Belgium are ;D

Great interpretation. I really like the idea that he's telling his parents' story through the album. Yeah, this video has really changed how I was reading the album too. Instead of thinking of Christian and Gloria as the class of 13 (which, like you, I was doing before), now I'm thinking of "No One", their son, as the class of 13, and them as the "bastards of 1969." And it's making me think about the "long lost son" part more too. Like, not just that he's lost in the chaos of the 21st century, but because his parents are so lost themselves, he's pretty much on his own--he can't rely on them, and he can't rely on anything else in the world around him either.

Funny, I've been going back to the "my name is No One/the long lost son" lines over and over again in my mind for the past few months, because when I was first listening to the album I was expecting him to be a character, like Whatsername in AI, but he never really seemed to come into the story again. But now I feel like he's really been there after all, in the ways you're saying. I feel like everything is suddenly coming clear! Either that or I'm just reading waaay to much into this video...

^ but thats exactly what they're wanting us to do, read into it, make our own relevations, thats what i love about this album.

please stay with me here, and dont take everything so literally.

and let me fine-tune my opinion a little.

although the child is not mentioned in the album, there is some sort of reference. (raised by the bastards of 1969. class of 13).

it isn't a matter of who it is dedicated to in real life, it is how it fits into the storyline.

and i didn't say the entire album, i was giving examples.

i guess what kind of hit me was "tell me a story thats by candlelight"

which made me also think, besides what i was saying before, maybe this whole thing was a bedtime story, told to this child (C13) by his parents (C&G).

when "we are the cries of the class of 13" chime in, that's where the child is giving his feedback to the story.

hell, i can even stretch it as far as the child/teen lashing out at his parents in EJN.

lol.

it's all in my head, i can see it like a movie , but i cant explain it.

the opinions and theories are endless
, just forget i mentioned anything.
Posted

I'm really sorry if i looked like i was contradicting

you, i didn't mean to ^^' But you're right, i was taking it

quite litterally. Anyway, thanks for explaining, it makes sense

to me now. But i don't think i should forget about everything

you said cause even if the interpretations are endless, the

interesting thing is to compare them - even if they're different

they all kinda make sense. I never really tried to interpret

the album so i can't really judge your interpretation, but i don't

think an interpretation can be wrong anyway.

21CB has been added to the Kerrang & Scuzz playlist today (it is on now as I type). So we have 5 TV music channels in the UK showing it. :D :D :D :D :D

The only tweak I'd make to this otherwise fabulous timeline is that the "Bastards of 1969" can't be C&G themselves; rather, it's *their* parents. The reason: What was "the" big musical and cultural revolution that occurred in 1969? Woodstock -- August 15 through 18, 1969. C&G were born into Nixon and raised in hell -- the early 70's. They couldn't have been the same people who were at Woodstock, because they hadn't been born yet. It was their parents' generation who met at or around the time of Woodstock, and thus had them a few years afterward. Meanwhile, the "Bastards" continued growing up, and eventually ran (and royally fucked up) the country from the post-Reagan years through the end of the 20th century. They reached "the 20th Century Deadline" without having accomplished most of the lofty goals they had set for themselves at Woodstock -- world peace, free love, etc. etc. etc. -- and instead left task of cleaning up from their failures to their children -- C&G -- and their grandchildren (represented by "No One" in particular and the Class of 13 in general).

So, we have the past, the present, and the bleak-looking future all wrapped up in one amazing record. WOW.

But this is not Green Day style!!! This goes against everything Green Day stand for ...

I know, I've heard rumors GD is pissed too...now we wait for billie to go do Adrienne (SP?) and go "Hey uhm...Honey? can I be on your label instead..."

Posted
Just my opinion... but the first part of the song is about Billie's generation (born into Nixon, ...), then it goes into "we are the class of '13". That would be the generation of Billie's son. The new generation. In the video, that's where Gloria has a baby. Then the baby turns into a boy and gets pulled into the TV. That's Billie's disgust at the new generation getting bombarded with crap messages. And i agree wholeheartedly with him. I have a kid in the class of '12, and I can't stand the crap she's bombarded with.

The video is biographical for billie, and having a baby that's part of the class of '13 is part of his biography.

my daughters are the class of '11 and the class of '16, i know exactly what you mean :/

Pissed about what? The video? Because just a rumor about that is ridiculous.

I would imagine of how the release of the video occured but it is rumour so I am not sure if there is any truth to it.
