Spastic Socialite Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 I really wanted to think that even the very details things are from band's mind. throwing the baby, politicians kissing, even shooting in the sunset which is very important to me.I see what you mean. The graphical element no doubt was the idea of the creative director, becuase thats basically their job; to come up with the "look" of a video ( and what i want to do when i grow up ). Im sure the kissing politicians is something to do with the band though.. reminds me of the photoshoot they did in paris where billie and tre kissed did anyone notice the intertextural reference to the front cover of the mysic knights of the cobra ( their guitarist died recently i think, they toured with FBHT). The bit where the child is sat infront of the televisionhttp://www.facebook.com/home.php#/photo.ph...id=110473853464
BundleOfJoy Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 I just saw the video for the first time and...oh my god. I cant stop watching 21CBD is from now on my most favourite music video...ever.
parinaz Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 ok,I really wanna know ppls idea on "Is the band involved with the very detailed graphic"?I see what you mean. The graphical element no doubt was the idea of the creative director, becuase thats basically their job; to come up with the "look" of a video ( and what i want to do when i grow up ). Im sure the kissing politicians is something to do with the band though.. reminds me of the photoshoot they did in paris where billie and tre kissed good. yep,I meant the concept.
dolce Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 SweetVendetta, your avatar is one of my favorite moments in the video. Everytime it turns to color looking straight at Billie I go "Oh he's so pretty!" Can't help it.
MusicalDeviant Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 I see what you mean! It reminded me a little of the Insomniac front cover. I gess however, in reference to the video being humorous, its easier to instigate humor through graphic and computer effects than simple film. The banker sliding down on the financial chart for example, could not have been recreated in real life, and the baby being thrown would simply not have been as humourous.True. Actually, I think a baby being thrown might have been humorous. Remember the audience that Green Day is playing to, who I think would get the joke and see humor in such an act. Maybe.
Bastard of 1967 Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 I need to get a few comments to Heros and Cons off my chest -- I agree with some of her points and disagree with others.I understand that amazing graphics, special effects ect are popular, but personally I feel that they take away from the cinematography. Yes, it does relate to the banksy/sixteen esque style of the album artwork. But we get that, I don't think it was really necessairy in this videoTake a look at this oldie and let us know if you still feel the same way. http://www.mtv.com/videos/a-ha/7846/take-o...tml#artist=1556I thought of this one the moment I saw what Webb was doing with the stencil-graphic green screen. Whether it's intentional or not, it's a great nostalgic throwback to that pioneering video....and for a song that's so "past/present/future" like 21CB is, I think it fits perfectly. The thing that scares the crap out of me is that so many people on this board weren't even born when this video first aired. Then again, why was Gloria pregnant?? Im guessing this is to do with the class of thirteen thing and growing up in the world of hypocracy blah blah.I have another post earlier in this thread that describes my thoughts on this (http://www.greendaycommunity.org/Forum/ind...t&p=3325339). Back up to the part you're giving short shrift to ("the class of thirteen thing"), because the whole fucking song is tied up in what you're skipping right over. Christian and Gloria (the present) are the products of the Bastards of 1969 (the past), and their kid's inheritance (teh future) is that generation's and their (C&G's) generation's failures. If you can't get that deep into the lyrics, you're missing a lot and I'm sorry.having children young can still be seen to be a slightly contriversial subject.Indeed. So what's your point, that Green Day isn't behaving like good little boys and girls?I just feel if Webb went to all the effort of re-enforcing the album artwork he should have wanted to have stayed as true to the lyrics of the albumOh, he did. He so fucking did it's incredible. The notion of the banker and the politicans was quite good i felt- Webb has encapsulated the issues of the time in this music video and so causing the video to be a clear depiction of social history which will be good in the future.Me too.The kiss between the politicians? Im guessing this is to be suggestive of the corruption in politics; really no matter who you vote for they are all the same. I dont know if its a bit bold of me to say that, but thats what i felt the kiss was suggestive of.I agree with this as well...and nope it's not too bold to say that, I think the hypocrisy of politicians like Larry Craig and his ilk is exactly what they were aiming at here. The warm oranges of this part of the video suggested a movement out of a dark era, and kind of to me placed the band on a pedestal (which im sure no one here minds)What moved me about this was the sharp contrast between the surreal stenciling and the crisp, clear reality...but I don't look at this as if we're transitioning out of a dark era, inasmuch as the light is now shining on what havoc we've wreaked. To the extent that awareness of truth provides hope for the future I suppose that sort of message can be found in there, but for me personally it's more of Billie looking right at us, practically begging us to see and comprehend all that we've done to ourselves.Anyway, thanks for your comments!
Farah Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 i just saw it on youtube , and before knowing it was the official, my first thought of it before i let the video finish was that i thought it was a homemade video xDlol at the politians that end snogging. wtf?
parinaz Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 True. Actually, I think a baby being thrown might have been humorous. Remember the audience that Green Day is playing to, who I think would get the joke and see humor in such an act. Maybe.it is time to stop humor for a while. and I think GD did their job well in this.
Brooklynn Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 I absolutely love the music videoso worth the wait and frustrations in my opinionthe graphical concert was just mind blowingvery fitting I thinkI've only watched it through once though. This might have been asked before, I apologize if it has, but has anyone put it up on YouTube?I'm mobile but dying to watch it again lol
EmmOuGR Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 I love it :D It's different from the other vids of GD but it's still good..
Bastard of 1967 Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 I see new things ever time i watch it. Just saw when Billie sings "Homeland security could kill us all" He put his hand in a gun shape points it at his head an pulls the trigger and red blood apears be hind him on the wall I saw that too on my second time watching it.... this thing's the fucking bomb!
parinaz Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 about kissing I believe that one was the most nihilistic part ( that I hope it's band's own idea)it shows how the overrated issues link to each other at the end.the passion and the politic.

It's so striking that all the sudden he's looking right at you, clear as day. And I think that's appropriate since he's saying "Dream, America, dream" and "Scream, America, scream", and then of course "Believe what you see in heroes and cons". He's addressing the listener directly, so it's perfect that he's staring right into the camera.
SlappyDJ1 Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Ok i just saw this and This is the best music video of all time. (shh kanye) the part when the 2 guys started making out was a wtf moment though.
Kaddi. Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 I hate MTV for only playing videos at night and in the morning. I had no chance to watch it on TV today...But I heard it on the radio
dolce Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 I loved the spiral staircase that lead to the cemetery and flames accompanied by the "I sat in a waiting room wasting my time, waiting for judgement day". That was brilliant and just perfect. Especially with the politician climbing out of his grave just to argue more, lol. This video is just pure brilliance.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 I hate MTV for only playing videos at night and in the morning. I had no chance to watch it on TV today...But I heard it on the radio Aww I wanted to hear it on the radio but when I looked up the playlists it was already played (I did hear American Idiot instead. I think that was the first time I heard AI on the radio )
Mayra Vicious Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 The video was amazingI love itAfter watching it I understand the song a little bit more
Kaddi. Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Aww I wanted to hear it on the radio but when I looked up the playlists it was already played (I did hear American Idiot instead. I think that was the first time I heard AI on the radio )Yeah I was in the kitchen and my dad was like talking non-stop and suddenly I thought I heard Green Day on the radio, so I was like "Psst... wait a second" And he shut up there it was... It didn't really help that he tried to dance to it, but well, at least I heard it.

Katarina. Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 I can't get enough of this video. It's like I'm addicted to it xD It's simply brilliant! It also kinda feels to me like the first time I listened to 21CB, the record that is. Idk, can't explain it, but I had the same feeling
Met Fan Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 I'm on a slow connection here so streaming kinda sucks, is there download links floating around yet by any chance?
The Disappearing Boy Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 i like this video because it is one of those ones where you notice something new everytime you watch it.
LibertyBelle. Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Fucking Awesome!I was ready to be let down to be honest - the last 2 video's were nothing special, but I was blown away by 21st Century Breakdown! It was a perfect representation of what the entire album feels like to me, it was like seeing exactly the way I feel on screen I thought it was impossible to write, draw or put into motion what I feel about this album, but I was proved wrong
