Last night's performance was far from the best I've seen them put in, but even in their "we've been on the road nearly constantly for almost six fucking months" state, they still did a reasonable job with it. Others have done a lot, lot worse. Once again, Green Day doesn't lip-sync, and definitely doesn't phone it in even when they're wiped out and just wanna go home. Billie's voice is clearly showing signs of strain from being out so long on tour though, I hope he can get a break in for a few weeks before the tour picks up again.

I'm not really sure if Billie was sick or not , but his vocals sounded "heavy". They sounded off the entire time. Most of you know this already, but I've been deeply let down by the fact that Billie has stopped singing the "guns" in falsetto. But I've kind of accepted the fact that he can't hit that note live (which is why he is stopped doing it). But tonight...it was just TOO obvious. At the end of the song he tried to hit that high note, and his vox completely cracked. It was really... I feel like they need to stop playing 21 Guns live (on tv) - because it sounds so bad for the band. I don't want to sound ungrateful. The overall awards show was fun to attend. I got to see some great acts, and it was nice being in the company of good people. But at the same time, I basically went for Green Day. And it was a let down to see them put on such a mediocre live performance. I thought I would never say this..but Lady Ga Ga put on a better performance then them. Okay, I know i sound like a total hater. And I really do apologize. This is just how I felt after seeing this in person. I even just got done watching the TV broadcast of it, and it only confirmed what my ears had heard. Bah.No, I think your perceptions were pretty dead on. Don't get me wrong, any Green Day performance is a delightful thing, but they've been touring non stop since May and I think the strain shows. I had just watched their performance on SNL in May right before the AMAs and you can just tell they're tired. Who can blame them? Yes they are fabulous, and definitely best live band of this century. But that level of intensity takes a toll physically, mentally, and emotionally. I just hope they are able to refuel before they head to Australia and NZ. Their stamina is amazing, but they are clearly human.

I must say they looked better than usual, simple and smart. I liked it a lot. Glad they won, not that it was difficult considering their competition 21 guns was amazing. Though, I was hoping for 'not a single' song but their choice is pretty understandable. Yeah, I guess that's all I wanted to say... No wait, Joey is so big!
dolce Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 I absolutely loved the performance I thought it was great, and it really proved to everybody who doesnt know much about Green Day, that they can do softer songs too and really fucking rock, Billies voice is absolutely breath taking, like he literally has the best voice I have ever heard!I agree totally.It really sucks to watch the show and think "Oh wow, they did great" (which I did and still do think), and then come on here and see everyone saying how Billie's voice was messed up, they're depressed, they're exhausted...etc. I heard Billie mess up one note. One. I thought his voice sounded beautiful. After watching I actually listened to the Live in Tokyo version of the song, and you know what? Billie sounded BETTER last night. How come when they don't jump around the stage everyone comments on how somber they seem? In concert, do they jump around during 21 Guns? Not at my concerts. Why should an award show be any different? And I don't expect Billie to smile the whole time he's singing to prove he's happy. He seemed just fine to me.As for the exhaustion - how many of us were just out touring Europe for two months? Nobody? Hmm.... then maybe we shouldn't go crazy when the guys look a little sleepy.Sorry, end of rant. It just makes me upset that SO many people on a Green Day fansite are so critical of them. If it were a genuinely horrid performance, I would understand the critiques and would probably put my two cents in as well. I just didn't see or hear anything that made me think it was a bad performance whatsoever.On a side note - Billie was looking very 2005 last night, wasn't he?
