.Militza. Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Billie's voice in this song is so magical I forget about the lyrics.
farley drexel hatcher Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 I think this is a showbiz story. The sweet sound of it is at odds with the whole tone of the lyrics, which are pretty harsh and cynical. 'Daddy's little bundle of joy/ out of a magazine' sounds like daddy's been making a bundle of cash from his daughter's career. The second part of the song, where it goes from 'she is my drama queen' to 'there goes my drama queen' - well, it's like he's lost his investment or his stake. '(un)folding/holding' can have a number of meanings - like the drug reference J'net makes - but the first thing I think of is poker. So, drama queen maybe finds a 'savior' - who or what is she being saved from? Maybe Daddy's control - what's for sure is that Daddy's rushing to find a lawyer and get this thing undone. 'She's old enough to bleed' is the refrain - I feel like that's a reference to how young girls in the spotlight are sexualized at such an early age. It's like this girl is basically 'fair game' once she crosses the line into puberty - she's pushed into an adult world, vulnerable and liable to be hurt, to 'bleed' emotionally. There's also the vibe that this girl is being 'bled' for money. You've explained it far better than I ever can but yeah that is how I interpret it too. I'm really taken with this song, the lyrics are some of my favourites of Billie's because they're so different to anything else, they're on a whole new level. I also don't think that live version is the whole song so it would be interesting to hear that.

Billie often shortens the songs he sings in his acoustic finale, so this one could quite possibly have more to it!

04rebhop Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 I haven't listened to this song very much, but i like it quite a lot. Billie's voice really is amazing. I hope they release a non- live version of it.
Agija Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Awesome choice. The song is great.I like the lyrics so much. <3
Comrade Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Well they did say in Rolling Stone before they put Murder City on the album that is is about the media, not a person. "It's about obsession with celebrity and watching people self-destruct. A lot of Americans have a tabloid addiction. Am I guilty of that? Yeah" So I'm pretty sure it's not about someones kid, it's just a metaphor for how the media is such a drama queen about everything and destroys lives.
poisonoak Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 i enjoyed the live version but i dont really like the line "shes old enough to bleed..." just 'bit weird
Tubbie Head Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 ^I love that line so much This is one of my favourite songs now!! And It wasn't even released (yet)I WANT A STUDIO VERSION SO BADLY  Neither could anybody who has ears. I know right?
heartscollide Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Someone told me on here that it was about young celebrity girl(paris hilton etc, etc.) because they are 'daddy's little bundle of joy' because he give them money etc. and because of the 'out of a magazine' part. But at first I definitely thought it was about someone daughter.
insomniaticnimrod Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 this is the first time ive heard this song, its pretty good

Billie could write about someone's kid in the context of how people get so obsessed with celebrity and tabloids. As I said earlier, I think the song has multiple layers ... as do most of his songs. So, it can be interpreted on the different layers, and there's no "right" answer. That's my take anyway.
SlappyDJ1 Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 I dont understand why this is the song of the week when it hasnt even been released yet.
jose armstrong Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Sounds a bit like James Blunt, I think. And I really like James Blunt.what a compliment to Billie
J'net Posted October 1, 2009 Author Posted October 1, 2009 I dont understand why this is the song of the week when it hasnt even been released yet.The song of the week is a song by Green Day that we can all listen to and discuss. There are no other rules. It doesn't have to be released or hit a certain spot on the charts or anything else. This isn't a competition for "best song." It's chosen from the nominations thread, and this one had a large number of votes. Hope that helps .
