Michael128 Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 so there's no recorded version of this?does anyone have a link to download an mp3?
Eirik Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 I think this is one of those songs were the actual melody of the song is just a spoof, a joke, irony, to further underline the rather sad lyrics.
.Militza. Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 so there's no recorded version of this?does anyone have a link to download an mp3?GDA download of the week. Look it up. Live version only.
Trina Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 I really think it's more about Brittney Spears and the likes. Innocent(ish) famous young celebrity girl whose gone through shit from the media but she's supposedly old enough to bleed now. It's not her dad's problem anymore.Didn't Billie Joe say (in perhaps the Q interview) that it's about celebrities?! Or have I made that up in my head...I love this song so much. I remember when I first heard it at some crazy ass time in the morning!Would adore a recorded version as a b-side of 21stCB or EJN..
Mar Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 I’ve read lots of speculation about this song, so here’s mine: I think Billie was inspired to write this by one of his friends who has a daughter (maybe Mike). It’s about a father’s feelings while watching his daughter grow up and experience everything that goes with growing up – searching for answers – maybe getting in trouble – getting hurt – etc. Here’s a youtube video of the Madison Square Gardens performance of Drama Queen on 7/27/2009. Of the videos I found, I thought this one had the best audio.">
Laura! Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Even though Billie said here that it's a song about the celebrity culture, and that makes sense, I still view the song exactly as you do, and for some reason, I listen to it from Mike's perspective as well. I love the song no matter the perspective, but that's how I view it.I love the live acoustic version (I don't know if it's an acoustic song to begin with), but I do hope we'll hear a recorded (and complete?) version at some point!I can't imagine the song with drums, bass and more guitar.
Mar Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 I can't imagine the song with drums, bass and more guitar.Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if it was acoustic, yet I also could see it sounding like Macy's Day Parade, so I don't know!
BraedonHorbacio Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Drama Queen would make a great b side but i think id rather hear something off of cigerettes and valentines
Laura! Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Electric? nu uh.I think the recorded version would just be Billie and his acoustic.
Clockwise Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 I could picture it still slow but just big sounding with bass and everything. I think that would sound really cool.

So what I said makes sense as one layer. What Angeline expressed so well also makes perfect sense, and Angeline mentioned various interpretations of some of the words/phrases, which adds to the layers. And it could also be seen as a mixture of the interpretations we've all discussed ... think of a celebrity dad who sees his daughter copying everything she sees the young, slutty girl celebrities do so that she looks like she came "out of a magazine." And think of him watching as people start trying to use her (or "bleed" her) because of her famous father - and he sees her picking up potentially dangerous habits, etc. The primary thing I love about Billie's songwriting is that I can hear a song many times and interpret it differently each time. Layers and layers of meaning are there in most of his songs - maybe all - maybe I just haven't found them all. Actually, I'm sure I haven't . There are other things I hear in this song, too, but I'm not going to write a book here!
MusicalDeviant Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 This week’s Song of the Week is Drama Queen. Please use this thread to discuss your thoughts and feelings about the song. This song hasn’t been released yet. It was supposedly considered for 21st Century Breakdown but not included. Billie performed Drama Queen during his acoustic finale at the Pittsburgh show on July 22, 2009 and has sung it again since then, notably at Madison Square Gardens.I’ve read lots of speculation about this song, so here’s mine: I think Billie was inspired to write this by one of his friends who has a daughter (maybe Mike). It’s about a father’s feelings while watching his daughter grow up and experience everything that goes with growing up – searching for answers – maybe getting in trouble – getting hurt – etc.Wait, how old is Tre's daughter? She's gotta be close to 13 now. She wasn't born too long after Joey. It would seem, judging by the lyrics, that the song is more about her than Stella.

It would seem, judging by the lyrics, that the song is more about her than Stella.Sure it could be. It could be someone's daughter we don't know. However, I imagine the song was written some time ago since it was considered for inclusion on the latest album. That's why Mike was the first example who popped into my head. But it could be anyone (or no one ... or a mixture of people/experiences).
Aurora Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 I love this song, it seems so real and honest.

So yeah, this is true as well.
alaniluau Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Beautiful song. I really like how it has this feeling of sadness and despair. And that falsetto is always just irresistible.
Rae'n'shine Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Billie's voice is just remarkable in the video of him singing Drama Queen. Whenever he showcases his range and falsetto, I melt. Great choice for song of the week. Hopefully, a recorded version can come out soon!
woven_basketcase Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 So I heard this for the first time a couple of seconds ago, and I really liked it. I'm glad it was the SOTW or I would have never bothered to listen to it. XD
