watsername182 Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 It's sold less than the Hannah Montana Soundtrack? Eh, I'm not really surprised at the figures.Obviously it's not selling as fast as American Idiot but since 21st Century Breakdown had so much hype surrounding it, it was bound to do fairly well. What I'm surprised about is how many albums Coldplay have sold.I thought Viva La Vida debuted #1 in 36 countries.
Katarina. Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Awesome. And today it's October 15, so the album's been released for 5 months. I really didn't expect the album to sell that great! Does anybody know how many copies of American Idiot were sold in the first 4 or 5 months?

RobyRoom Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 I think that the album has not sold so much (compared to AI and to other bands sellings) because of the singles. KYE is not the best song of 21CB in my opinion, 21 guns is a great song but then this idea of putting out two singles at the same time is kinda confusing . There are a lot of songs in the album that could have brought more people to appreciate Green Day's music: both Viva la Gloria, Restless heart syndrome, Murder City. However, I know so many people that bought AI only because it was kinda hip at the time, but they couldn't care less about punk rock music. I prefer Green Day to sell less record than to have fake fans.

Salmonator. Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Not good compared to AI.In my opinion, I don't think 21stcb tops American Idiot.

Coldplay sold 6.6 million copies of Viva la Vida in 2008 alone. Same with Britney, Twilight etc. Those albums were released last year. Anyway, if you look at the chart for albums released in 2009, Green Day are even higher up on the chart at number 5.1. U2 No Line On The Horizon 3.426.500 2. Eminem Relapse 2.742.500 3. Black Eyed Peas The E.N.D. 2.621.000 4. Soundtrack Hannah Montana: The Movie 2.541.0005. Green Day 21st Century Breakdown 2.367.5006. Bruce Springsteen Working On A Dream 1.614.0007. Lily Allen It s Not Me, It s You 1.550.0008. Kelly Clarkson All I Ever Wanted 1.254.000 9. Jay-Z Blueprint 3 1.187.00010. Depeche Mode Sounds Of The Universe 1.066.000Source: http://www.worldwidealbums.net/
