-Billiejoezee- Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 the same songs helped you as helped me, though St Jimmy inparticular helped me, most people know on here now that its cos of AI that i am still alive really, my depression was so bad but somehow St Jimmy made me realise i didn't need to be depressed, my situation was similar to yours to my grandad died the november after the AI release, i got AI for xmas and in the january, i listened to it walking school (that makes me feel old since i have just started the last year of uni!) and it was as if all my depression was flowing out of me. So AI holds a special place for me and still when i get stressed or angry, St Jimmy always makes me calm, its weird.Similar stories. :/
thoroughlyme Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 I remember I was watching TRL when I was 9 and I saw the American Idiot music video come on the screen, and it really just caught my attention that a channel which played stuff that was just vain and annoying would play something with such a message. I didn't get the album until around Christmastime of that year, but when I did you can bet I was listening to it a lot. It still means a lot to me today, 'cause it was one of the first albums that exposed me to what I now call good music.Happy 5th Birthday American Idiot!
Clayish Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 This album.... is indescribable.Man, The first time i heard Jesus of Suburbia man, I was hooked. That album is so damn special to me that I always listen to it front to back. always.
-Billiejoezee- Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 I remember when this album came out the first song I heared of BOBD.Ever since it has been the best song ever. The wait for this album was worth it for me. I'm happy I was able to experience the wait for A.I,not just fall in love with GD after A.I came out.
Mar Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 except it was pink frosting instead of red.. and with blue lines because we couldn't mix the colors any darker:(still pretty amazing though. You should've taken a picture of it! It changed my perspective on music all together.I know you were being serious but thanks to your av I pictured Franklin saying this and I loled. Oh God, I love AD.
Punx89 Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 The best album in history of punk rock....
Trina Posted September 23, 2009 Author Posted September 23, 2009 You. Made. Me. Hungry. Well the last one we got made was the photo where Tré's knee is all cut up and his pants..have stains and Billie Joe is all sleepy and stoned. Mike is the only one who doesn't look completely silly! I'd say the baker people were freaked out! Wow, a lot of the stuff you guys are saying is the same way I felt when I heard Dookie.Just replace American Idiot with Longview and you have me. Sweet. (:Thinking back it really seems like ages ago to me. I was 11 and very innocent and childish, more so than your average 11 year old. I hadn't even started 6th class in primary school. But things quickly changed and the album was kind of a backdrop to all of it. I'm now 16 and I've left school. It's pretty weird. It seems like forever ago. But in a smaller way it seems like just yesterday...maybe because I remember it all so well.
chickin'pickin' Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 The best album in history of punk rock....No. Just no.
Boston Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Jesus H. Christ and his brother-in-law Harry. 5 years? I'm getting old.
Jimmy the Kid Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 I'd rather celebrate the 18th anniversary of Kerplunk. Not wannabe punk please...The best album in history of punk rock....No, just no... 1st, the only punk rock songs are St Jimmy and AI. The rest is pop punk/alternative rock. So, the best Pop Punk album would be correct
-Billiejoezee- Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 I kinda thought Holiday was in the punk rock songs list but I guess no.
Punx89 Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 No. Just no.well that's my opinion dude.you can't change me.That's my favourite album because it was the reason to learn about gd and love them,so....I just love that album and I think that this album is the best... :/ :/
Mar Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 God, I was listening to the CD today and I thought back to the exact moment I first heard those songs. I seriously am amazed it's not still 2004/2005 when they ruled the world, where did time go?
rinu Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 The best album in history of punk rock....It's not.

OliDayyy Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 OMG, 5 years????!!!I can't believe it :|Still my all time favorite album
Hermione Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 American Idiot, stumbling across you completely by chance, at a time when I wasn't interested in any kind of rock music whatsoever, led to me discovering the wonderfulness of Green Day against the odds. I salute you
BuriedInAHole Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 Wow..5 years..That'S great..I can still remember the day as American Idiot came out in Germany
bjrules Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 I first heard this album back in March '05 and it really changed my life. I was seriously in awe, and the next week after I heard it I went out and got it, and I used to just listen to it all day long. If i hadn't discovered Green Day, my life would be completely different.
