Abbey. Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 I was thinking about ANDROID last night, trying to gather my thoughts about the song and I think it must have stayed on my mind because when I woke up this morning I had the wildest dream about a college boyfriend of mine (and I am well past college age). All to say that this song brings me back to a time when I was in my early 20s trying to "figure it all out." What I find striking about ANDROID is that Billie Joe, on the verge of being a twenty-something, was a quite the thoughtful guy for writing this song. When I was that age I sure didnt give a fuk about anyone but myself and I never thought I would get old. Anyone over the age of 30 was simply irrelevant to me.My favorite part of the song is "I ALWAYS WASTE MY TIME ON MY CHEMICAL EMOTIONS IT KEEPS MY HEAD SPINNING AROUND". I like to think that Billie Joe knew there were consequences to getting old and personally I think he even knew that he was indulging himself on getting high and being perhaps self-destructive. I love Billie Joe's young whiney voice in the song and I think Tre beats the snot out of those drums. I dont know how he didnt pass out of exhaustion after playing it. Great song.

I have noticed many times that Billie was surprisingly thoughtful even when he was such a young boy. I think the thought behind his songs is one thing that makes them so appealing and so enduring. Even songs that don't have any particular thoughtfulness in their lyrics still have that personality behind them. It just adds a little something that never gets tiresome.
Trina Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 I love Android although it wouldn't be one of my all time favorite Green Day songs, it's still such a punchy and relatable song.I really love the bit where it sounds all cracky and stuff when he sings "my chemical emotions" the second time.My favorite lyrics from this song are:'It seems so frighteningTime passes by like lightningBefore you know it you're struck downI always waste my time on my chemical emotionsIt keeps my head spinning aroundAnd waste away...'For me, I relate to it because I waste my time on constant paranoia and anxiety and I wonder will I get so caught up in this I'll end up dead before I know it or I'll drive myself to ending it.I take chemical emotions as emotions that are harming you and making you crazy rather than a drug addled mind. It's more relatable that way.I often think about homeless people you see on the street and I think about their background and what happened. How they fell through the cracks of society.I love that this song is wondering did this person always know he'd end up on the street and insane or did he not. I also love that this song is so thoughtfull for such a young person to write and also it's kind of funny/ironic that he's still wondering will he have to beg to survive when he turned out to be successful and well...rich!I love the uncertainty of not even knowing if you'll still be around that long. I also love these lyrics:'When the old man was in schoolDid the golden rule make him go crazyOr did he hide away from hopesBehind a smile and smoking dopeIt's crazy'Especially the hiding away from hopes part.. It's just very relatable...I love this song!I sorta wish there wasn't the silly "Somebody else can do it" part ...I dunno,it doesn't really bother me, it's just I'm not into sillyness in songs really. The music is fucking awesome too.
Empty Laughter Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 I love how BJ sings in that part of it's seems so frightening, really awesome song, just love it :3 one of the best song in the album!
Mato Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 I love Android. It really describes me and my feeling at this age.
MascaraTears Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 I really like Android... I wouldn't say it's one of my favorite songs ever, but I still really like it. I agree about the lyrics... they're funny and cute, but at the same time they're a really mature subject for how young Billie was when he wrote them.
bjrules Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 I love this song so much. It seems a bit silly on the surface, but when you look a bit deeper it is actually quite a thoughtful song. I've fallen in love with Kerplunk lately.
Anja Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 When I first got Kerplunk, this was my least favorite. But I'm glad it grew on me. I like the lyrics a lot and it always makes me think of homeless people and now that I have been in Berkeley, it makes me think of the homeless people I've seen around there and San Francisco. I wonder who inspired Billie for the song.Great song after all with a great message.
