Offended by Green Day

To tell you all the truth I think this is the reason Green Day decided not to make EJN a single (at least not yet anyway) because of how offended people get over religion. I think all religion is horseshit anyway. And it's not like Green Day's saying "There is no god. Don't believe in him" There just saying how obsessed everyone is with religion which is true.

To be honest, I don't think they really care if they offend people. They say what they want, and people can take it or leave it. I mean, they're not out to offend people, they just say what they're thinking.

I know a lot of people on here were speculating that EJN would be the next single, but that doesn't mean it was ever in the plan to make it the next single. It's just what we were assuming. We may have never been right in the first place, and 21CB was the next single all along.

I wasn't really offended by it so much as shocked

But I'm not christain or cathlic so that's why I'm not offended.

The back drop seems to be there simply for the shock effect, and to illustrate a point.

To be honest I was more offended by them using the "N" word than the back drop :/

Especially when I first heard that they used the "N" word,I took it out of context (not on here mind you in my head) but then I saw they were using it as a quote,it some how took some of the sting out. When I sing "American Eluogy" I replace it with either "fuckers" or some other word, and when I was singing along at the concert I just avoided that part all togeather.

So I can understand how he was able to be easly offended.

I wasn't offended by Green Day but I was offended by that Satanic prayer in the MTV VMAs.

That's sad that he took it that way.

I didn't think it went too far at all!

Although, why would you walk straight out of a concert just because of something on the backdrop?

Hell, it'll be gone when the next song comes on.

But then again.

It's hard to persuade religious fanatics.

You know what..

I'll admit it. I was offended by that too.

the song acomplishes its mission:

to make christians uncomfartable.

it makes me uncomfortable,

but i dont get 'offended',

their religious beliefs are their problem,

and everything needs to be critisized sometimes

You know what..

I'll admit it. I was offended by that too.

same here

I found it hillarious  Not to offended you or anything, but the idea if their being a dark overlord that rules pits of fire and brimstone is funny. Especially if God is supposed to be an ever loving and forgiving being. Why send your children to a place of evil?

Just doesn't make sense :/

Oh, shit. What a loss. Hey, you should bring him to another concert that is completely free of all that religious stuff.

Another thing I find funny is that he went to warped tour with me about a week before the green day concert, and I don't know if anyone here has seen Aiden live, but he actually stayed through that.

"if theres one thing in this world, that i hate more than anything, its religion" Wil (singer) straight up says things like this during their set. and his guitar says fuck religion on it. and he talks about the spirit of the underground and hell and all that lol

so he stayed through all that during a little warped tour band, but he leaves during an EPIC GREEN DAY CONCERT cause of a little backdrop  i don't understand

I think it's easier for him to forget words rather than an image :/

Seriously?! That 'satanic prayer' was a joke and nothing more.

totally, it was hilarious. I mean, Fat Mike says in concert If you're a Christian leave, I don't want you as a fan. Why do you come here knowing that we hate religion?

Fine point there

Woah. I can't believe people were offended by the "satanic prayer"..seeing as it wasn't one!!

I just can't believe how weird people are sometimes...

Wow. His life must be pretty hard... I wonder how he's able to get out of the house at all. He might see something that he doesn't like. Oh well, everyone's entitled to their opinion...

The fact that anyone was actually offended by that just makes it even more amusing to me . Reminds me of when someone made a thread because they were worried the Foxboro Hot Tubs were satanic because of that lushotology symbol.

sorry for being weired.

People get ass hurt really easily these days.

If you go to a Green Day show, I think you should really be expecting anything.

Stuff that you want to see, and don't want to see.

Don't like the picture, don't look at it and shut up.

Your friend didn't have to leave, it really isn't that big of a deal.

i know, he missed out on everything :/

as much as i just want to say "your loss", (which is what i said to start with) i still want to be able to talk to him about the concert and green day in general. it sucks.

Did he like Green Day and now by seeing that suddenly hates them?

If that's the case, I understand why you're upset, but imagine like talking to him about the meanings of some songs, he would probably have had the reaction.

Hopefully he'll realize it's just an opinion, and get over it, because being mad isn't going to do anything about it.

he didn't really say he hates them or anything, but its seeming that way. he told me "i'll still listen to them, but idk"

I really hope I can talk some sense into him, the next time I talk to him. Cause next time green day comes to town, i'm dragging him along and he's staying the whole show. cause i can't stand this lol

at least i had my mom there, and i have her to talk to about how incredible the show was.

I know at the concert I went to, he probably offended quiet a few people. I went to the show in Inglewood which is a predominantly black area, and when I heard "American Eulogy" I was like. "No way he's gonna say it...No way he's gonna say it...No way he's gonna say it...----" Then I hear the N word and was like "HOLY SHIT HE SAID IT!" Funny enough during EJN, a TON of people left, yet the place still had NO ROOM whatsoever. Yet when something like the "N" word is said, (which I would see having a MUCH bigger impact due to the area), no one gave a fuck. Truthfully I'm glad. As far as MYSELF, I'm not really religious, so seeing the backdrop didn't really upset me much, but the image was....unsettling. As far as your friend...? *sigh* It's truly a shame he was like that. The only advice I have is to try to explain the song, without mentioning the band....for some reason, this kinda thing has happened to me before, and when I explain it roughly to someone, they're like..."Oh, that is so true." Then I tell them the band name and they were like...."OH NOW I GET IT!" ....Hopefully your friend is a bit more open minded to those kinds of conversations, and hopefully he doesn't realize the message. IMO, it's quiet scary when people who understand the message, don't believe it. Especially after 9-11.

i grew up with very strict Catholics and i can see how they might get offended.. i never really played into any of it though and this song just makes me respect GD even more.

and wow i didn't notice that backdrop at any shows.. i guess i never really take my eyes off Billie haha
