Rebel07 Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 Wow, Jesus...bloody...on a cross...How offensive? Think your friend gets up and walks out of the classroom every time the teacher shows him a picture like that?haha good point.I know exactly how you feel. My friend who religious went with me and got offended. I try to tell myself that she cam have an opinion and I shouldn't be offended just like she shouldn't be offended but it's hard not to feel sad when your best friend is complaining and saying how mad she is right after you get done seeing your favorite band, something you waited so long to do. It's a time your supposed to be at your happiest and they end up dragging you down. It kinda makes feel like a hypocrite to say "you can't be offended, but I can." But it does really end up ruining your whatwas supposed to be a great night.I kinda know how that feels, but he tried his hardest not to ruin my night. Cause after the show I was on top of the world man, I couldn't get this huge smile off of my face lol.and as soon as we went out of the venue and I found him (I had no idea that he left, cause we got seperated during Franz Ferdinand) and I knew immediatly that something was wrong with him, he wasn't talking like at all, and he just had like no interest in the fact that I got to go on stage or nothing and I kept asking him what was wrong, and he wouldn't tell me. He just kept saying that he'll tell me tomorrow and that tonight was my night...
dolce Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I happen to agree with what the message the song, so no, I'm not even a little offended by the lyrics/backdrop/message of the song. My parents agree with them, too. I think Green Day's music in general sends out a great message - be yourself, don't be afraid to voice your opinions, and do what you believe in and what makes you happy. That has always been a running theme in their lyrics. I for one LOVE that they touch upon both religious and political issues now, because I agree 100%!Even if by some chance I didn't agree with what they were doing/saying at some point, I wouldn't be any less of a fan. You can love something/someone and still have differing opinions. I'm glad that they're so open and outspoken. That's how all people should be.It's a shame that because of the song's backdrop onstage some people's nights were ruined. I think everyone needs to learn to "go with the flow" and relax a bit. Getting so upset at such a small detail seems crazy to me.
Rebel07 Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 As to your friend, Katie, Green Day offends a lot of people because those people look on the surface of what the guys do and say and take it no further. If he wasn't familiar with the words to EJN, then I can see how he can be offended, particularly if Billie said what he said in one of the concerts I went to, "Jesus Fucking Christ... that is his middle name, isn't it?" Cracked me up, but I'm sure others aren't so cracked up.haha, billie didn't say that, but he did do the whole "how many sinners we got out there tonight?" and he also said something right after that about how many christians, but i didn't hear him. and my friend said that that kinda bothered him at first, but he didn't really care, and then as soon as the backdrop showed up.. yeah :down:I happen to agree with what the message the song, so no, I'm not even a little offended by the lyrics/backdrop/message of the song. -Billiejoezee- Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I wasn't offended. I thought my parents were gonna be offended too. Then they asked later on what the song was about, and i told them what green day was trying to say with the song, about the hypocrisy of churches.Personally,I think they're right. I mean, people say "oh im catholic,i'm christian",but they never go to church!Well my parents agreed.
dolce Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 ^ Also many super-religious people say how loving they are, unless you fall under the category of this, that, or the other thing. The hypocrisy of religion and how un-accepting the church in general is horrifies me.

karma1215 Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 When I went to the concert two men appeared to be very offended when Billie pulled his pants down and mooned the crowd.. Guess they were expecting to be so close to the stage but they were and it appalled them, I on the other hand thought it was quite amusing... not sexy.... just plain hilarious.

Peace and Rainbows Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I think it's personal opion they can express what they wnat, i'm not offended
Ila Reto Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I gotta ask you guys something, and I wasn't sure where to post about it..BUT, I had a couple of friends that were at the concert with me on August 12th, and during East Jesus Nowhere, one of them got extremely offended at the backdrop. I guess it has jesus on it, with a bloody cross, he got so offended that he actually left. Its really bugging me and it really kinda hurt my feelings when he left and I don't even know what to say to him. Then after he told me about it all, I told him that its just they're opinion and you shouldn't get offended by someone else opinion, and he said that they took it to far, and that they're making a mockery of it. He won't understand the fact that the song is about the hypocracy of religious fanatics, and they're making a mockery of the hypocrites not the whole religion...what do you guys think about it? and do you know anybody who have gotten offended by Green Day in any way?btw, i'm pretty sure this is it http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z308/Pansy060/omg-1.jpghah i've never been nor will be offended. and if i ever did have to disagre with their opinion, i wouldn't flip out about it. geez.just make sure they dont watch LF!DF....penis-swastika bwahaha!p.s. whoever leaves in the middle of a GD show are assholes anyway. people like that don't grasp other people's ideas, screw 'em and move on.
Lauren Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I told him that its just they're opinion and you shouldn't get offended by someone else opinion,There's nothing wrong with getting offended by someone's opinion. Most offenses are by opinion and not by fact... if someone says, "Your shirt is tie-dye", that's a fact but it's not really "offending". but if someone *cough*Tre*cough* says, "You better change your shirt before the show. I fucking hate tie-dye." well, that's an opinion and it CAN be offending.I actually am offended by this a little bit. Yes, I agree with most of what they're saying, and no, I wouldn't leave a concert over it, but I still think that Green Day sometimes takes things a little too far. And that's cool, they speak their feelings and their minds. Which is totally okay, but if you take it as far as they do, people WILL get offended.
-Billiejoezee- Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 At first lauren i was offended too, because i thought that they were making fun of catholics and cristians.Like remember when everyone booed cristians and they did too?
rage-love-life Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I can see why he's offended but it's not really that big of a deal. Try to tell him again that it's not offensive, and hopefully he'll understand. If not? His loss.
Lauren Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 At first lauren i was offended too, because i thought that they were making fun of catholics and cristians.Like remember when everyone booed cristians and they did too?yes, and i didn't like that. I'm just tired of feeling like I have to change my religion because everyone (especially most people on GDC, this is where I hear it the most) keeps saying bad stuff about us, and I don't want to feel like everyone hates me.
Brandon R. Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 yes, and i didn't like that. I'm just tired of feeling like I have to change my religion because everyone (especially most people on GDC, this is where I hear it the most) keeps saying bad stuff about us, and I don't want to feel like everyone hates me.Personally, I don't hate Christians. It's a free society. People can believe what they want.Only time I have a problem is when a Christian (not saying you do this) pre-judges someone who doesn't believe what they do. I think that's just wrong. The thing that turns me off the most is the "holier than thou" type of Christian. Surely you know what I mean, right? Really it's not Christians themselves that piss me off. It's just their beliefs that I can't agree with. But it works both ways so if someone tries to judge you because you're a Christian, ignore it. Got to respect people's beliefs as long as they don't force them on other people. That's the philosophy I live by anyway.I said all that to say this: You shouldn't change your beliefs because someone doesn't like it. Be you. Don't worry about everyone else

I don't agree with some aspects of my religion, but I like my religion because it has the most things I like in it. religion is personal.most people don't agree 100% with their religion which is why they give up.but i say you can still be a certain religion without following the rules 100%
TheBullwinkle Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I'm not religious is any sense, but I understand how people can be offended. But they also need to keep in mind that this is just somebody else's opinion; they don't have to listen to it.

Brandon R. Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 it's the fact that everyone groups us under one category and thinks we're all like that.we're not.Yeah. I know. That's why I try not to paint all Christians with a broad brush.Christianity is just something I can't get behind. I can see how the original topic of this thread would offend some, though, and that's alright. I'll let those who are offended worry about it because it doesn't bother me in the slightest.People are going to have differing opinions on everything.
TheBullwinkle Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Which is why he left. Good. GTFO, OFFENDED GUY.
-Billiejoezee- Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I'm catholic, but i don't think like that.Everyone has there own rights to believe what they want.
Brandon R. Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Everyone has there own rights to believe what they want.This.
Lauren Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 This.but what if i believe killing every male who is under 5'5" is okay because I don't like guys shorter than me?
-Billiejoezee- Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 but what if i believe killing every male who is under 5'5" is okay because I don't like guys shorter than me?Well that just means your crazy. But if you wanna believe that then okay, but you're just gonna end up in jail if you do it.
Brandon R. Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 but what if i believe killing every male who is under 5'5" is okay because I don't like guys shorter than me?Then I would urge you to keep that only as a belief and not something you would act on.
