Hermione Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Definitely Working Class Hero. Billie's voice is perfect for it and I really like the added drum part, it compliments the song and adds even more power to it. They made the song their own while still showing just the right amount of reverence to the original - I love how they tip their hat to Lennon by leaving his vocal in at the end. It also seemed a very fitting song for the band at the time, it rang just as true coming from Billie Joe in 2007 as it did when it came from Lennon in a different generation. Especially when they performed it on American Idol, it was speaking to the whole mass population. I can't think of a more beautiful cover song.
Clockwise Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Don't Wanna Know If You Are Lonelyand Knowledge (of course)

Katarina. Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 A Quick One and I Fought The Law. Amazing But, I have to say I love Shout and Working Class Hero as well.
dallasthemenace Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 a quick one.. is the most impressive...but..dont wanna know if youre lonely is the best. CLOSELY followed by midwest medley.but i sure would like to hear an entire buzzcocks cover....
JHyena86 Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 but i sure would like to hear an entire buzzcocks cover....I second that. I would have to say either Outsider or A Quick One...hard to decide
Storer Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Not really a Green Day song, but I LOVE Pinhead Gunpowder's cover of Big Yellow Taxi
Tubbie Head Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 "Working Class Hero" (my all time favourite.. I agree with you Hermione, in everything you said about it) "Shout", because It's a Freaking amazing cover, different from the original version, yet amazing .. With the Green Day energy into it.. I love those live performances Knowlage/ A Quick One. these two are tied.. Love them soooo much both!Then.. I can't say I don't love "Like a Rolling Stone" too xD
RebelofSuburbia Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 you really got mewait, did I miss out on this? Where'd you hear that?Hm my favorites are tied between Like a Rolling Stone, Surrender and Kiss Me Deadly
Greenday_Aussie Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Another State of Mind (so awesome)A Quick OneWorking Class Hero
¡VivaLaAndrea! Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Working Class HeroLike a Rolling StoneA Quick One While He's AwayBut ever since they were joking about a Jonas Brothers or Miley Cyrus cover, I've wanted them to do it. It'd be hilarious and they'd get WAY too into it.And The Climb is actually a good song. They should cover it. Yup.

dolce Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Seeing them play Shout is basically the happiest a person could humanly be. I also love We are the Champions and Working Class Hero. And A Quick One. And That's All Right.
Szivo Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 dont wanna know if youre lonely from husker du definitely the best
thenextsexpistol_mak Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 I have to say "My Generation" and "I Fought the Law". Very good indeed.those 2 and Like A Rolling stone
Pinheadstern Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 surrender / bastards of young Yeah, bastards of young was amasing !
bat-chen Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 For me the best are Shout and I Fought the Law.
Juliette Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Shout is beast. But I absolutly love Don't Wanna Know If You Are Lonely.Though tbh most of their covers are amazing cause they make them their own.
J'net Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I do love all the ones that are mentioned. But I am most impressed by Like a Rolling Stone. Has anyone ever tried to sing along with Bob Dylan? The way he doesn't really follow the melody (sometimes it's hard to figure out what the melody is) - I just about fell over when I heard Billie sing that song! He changes up the rhythm, which is a nice little disorienting switch every time I hear it, but he manages to sing, sound great, and not make it sound like he's just sugar-coated Dylan. And they stay VERY true to the original while making it their own. Green Day ... you really got me now with that song ! After 16 or 17 years, I really didn't realize just how talented they were until I heard this one.
Juan Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Shout is beast. But I absolutly love Don't Wanna Know If You Are Lonely.Though tbh most of their covers are amazing cause they make them their own. Here's and interesting fact: in the back cover they misspelled the song as I don't wanna know if you are lonely. But yes, it is their greatest, and I swear it has nothing to do with the fact that Hüsker Dü is my second favorite band.I do love all the ones that are mentioned. But I am most impressed by Like a Rolling Stone. Has anyone ever tried to sing along with Bob Dylan? Spot on with Dylan too.
Mar Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Either I Fought The Law (Tre's percussion kicks Clash ass) or Working Class Hero (for the reasons that Hermione stated). That's exactly why I love "I Fought the Law" (although I obviously love the original too)!My favorites are "A Quick One", "I Fought the Law", "Surrender/Bastards Of Young", and "Knowledge". Love them.
sallysimpson Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 A quick one -- hands down. That's a complicated song and they did a fabulous job both on the recording and when I saw them at MSG. Tre nails the drums. He does Moonie proud. And Billie takes on vocals that were shared between Pete, Roger, and John. Perfection!
