Michael128 Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 No.... you put it in the Live in Tokyo EP thread...Those were the sales for the Tokyo EPedit: crap, you're right. i pasted the wrong onesorry about that
FreakingGreenDayFan Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 so it means that it still haves to sell about 150,000 copies so it'll go platinum! But do you think that it has a realistic chance to do that?
Velocity Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 I'm really surprised it hasn't gone platinum yet. I remember just a few years ago, it wasn't uncommon for albums to go platinum within the first week or so. But six months and 21CB still hasn't? It should be doing better.
FreakingGreenDayFan Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Is it true that the record isn't even on the Billboard 200 anymore;OO???????????
Allie90 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 I'm really surprised it hasn't gone platinum yet. I remember just a few years ago, it wasn't uncommon for albums to go platinum within the first week or so. But six months and 21CB still hasn't? It should be doing better. 21 CB has sold so little???????!!!!!! I'm sooooo surprised!!! The album is great!! why they don't wanna buy it???But this does weaken Green Day's chances of winning A Grammy :/
pisquano Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Yeah, the album is now out of the Billboard chart. Last week it was 150th, it has lost over 50 positions...I think it might be a re-entry in the future, cause East Jesus Nowhere is getting better if you see the Alternative chart. But the album needed a hit to have a good chart history, and 21 guns wasn't as successful as I thought. If doesn't come back to the billboard 200, it will reach the platinum certification in a year. AI has sold 5,900,000 copies in the US, 21stCB about 850,000; in the UK AI has sold 1,800,000 copies and 21stCB 330,000; it has been quite a success in Italy, selling over 105,000 copies. We also have to consider that Wal-Mart doesn't sell 21stCB.
Morgawr Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Keep in mind that albums are selling less than they did a few years ago. 21st Century Breakdown is still one of the highest selling albums released this year.
Brian Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Is this just physical copies or both physical and digital downloads? cause with this technology, CD's are slowly becoming the new cassette tapes.
HoneyDo666 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Yeah, out of the albums released in 2009, 21CB is about #5 on the list It's doing well for an album at this time. But they need to release another hit. I think the new 21 Guns version could do it, plus all the hype about the musical! The New Year's Thing will help too, it looks like they're going to be NBCs big stars. Let's just hope people would rather watch them than whatever's on Dick Clark's show. Considering how boring Dick Clark is now that he's baasically incapacitated, NBC has a chance! I mean, I love Dick Clark, but his stroke just left him in a poor state. He's on TV for sentimental reasons now.
farley drexel hatcher Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 It went Platinum in the Uk this week, I believe, not sure if anyone mentioned it or not.
Kryssi. Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 I hope the sales in the UK have gone up since the tour.... I was chuffed when I saw 3 copies were bought in one day in my store... that seems weird to be happy about, but their genre of music rarely sells in our store :/
Maddy. Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 It went Platinum in the Uk this week, I believe, not sure if anyone mentioned it or not.Awesome. Yeah, and what Kryssi said. But whenever I go to the music store, (the dudes know me there by now) there's not many Green Day CD's. Only American Idiot usually.
HoneyDo666 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 It went Platinum in the Uk this week, I believe, not sure if anyone mentioned it or not.I don't get how more people show up for the tour in the UK than buy the album. Not that they aren't unbelievable live! But good job for it going platinum!
Morgawr Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 The album re-entered the UK Top 40 in October, so the tour and UK TV appearances must have helped.
Mar Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 This may seem insignificant, but I was hoping I would've seen 21CB in Black Friday ads. If Best Buy featured it in their ad for really cheap, I think a lot of people would've picked it up.

We also have to consider that Wal-Mart doesn't sell 21stCB.Yes that's true the record now sold something like about 2,5 million copies and one reason that it hasn't gone platinum yet is that wal-mart is not selling this album but didn't 21 Guns do pretty well it has already gone platinum and sold almost 2 million copies round the globe it's pretty good.I don't get how more people show up for the tour in the UK than buy the album. Not that they aren't unbelievable live! But good job for it going platinum! One reason is probably cause there are familys, we are 4 in our family and we only buy one copie of the album. But the point was that we went all four to watch them though we only bought one copie of the record:D
Jimmy the Kid Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 I don't care abot album sales. I have my copy, most people here have theirs, so... Let's just be happy that GD is a fuckin awesome band that keeps putting out great records!
Michael128 Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 21CB is #25 on Billboard's year end chart, but keep in mind that they're year isn't Jan 1st-Dec 31st. the daughter of rage Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 who cares how many they have sold!!! i mean, as long as you have your own Green Day copy and its making YOU happy, that's all that matters, that's just my opinion. Everyone else out there is missing out on it, and really, too bad*shrugs* so NO ONE deserves to call green day losers because they have definitely worked their asses off for us this time!
Michael128 Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 They are number 16 in the year-end chart with 2.6 million copies sold. (883,250 copies in the US)http://www.mediatraffic.de/year-end-albums.htm
Vrock09 Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 Album's amazing no matter what the numbers say :)
pisquano Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 They are number 16 in the year-end chart with 2.6 million copies sold. (883,250 copies in the US)http://www.mediatraffic.de/year-end-albums.htmYes, and it's increasing the copies that sells. 11,500 this week in the US...hope that 21st Century Breakdown (single) has a good airplay and a good chart history, this will help the album. Yeah, no matter how many copies the album sells, but I like following charts and numbers, mostly because I can't realize that people continue buying albums by Black Eyed peas and some others...I can't define it music
novacaine_kid Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 Personally, I don't care how many units they sell, it makes no difference to anything. As long as they continue to make music and go on tour. It really doesn't matter in the scheme of things. If you are looking for a reason as to why it maybe hasn't sold as much as people thought, its down to the promotion of the record. Or lack of. It was almost non existent. I think the sales will pick up next year.
1000SlappyHours Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 Some good numbers. Ppl have to realize that 21CB isn't AI, AI was like a cultural phenomenon and it would be impossible for 21CB to have as much success. They've sold a good amount of records and probably one of the few rock records that are actually selling. Plus, Green Day gets decent airplay from the mainstream, and i don't think those albums sales count digital sales, so it's probably sold more than tht. Ppl use itunes more these days to buy music.
pisquano Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 No, 883,250 copies include digital sales...it has sold about 185,000 digital copies (about 700,000 physical)
