It's okay to be a loser, so long as you're good at it

Which they are! They sold most out of the losers! :P

What are numbers as long as the music's good  ?

I think good single candidates would have been:

KYE

21 Guns

American Eulogy

The Static age & EJN

THEY'RE NOT LOSERS :D

I wish restless heart would be the next single but it hasn't been played on tour.

I would reeaaallly like RHS, but they will never release it.

My picks as singles would have been:

1.21 Guns

2.21CB

3.RHS

4.EJN

5.Static Age(love the song)

6.Before the lobotomy

They're still doing fabulously! Their 3 videos are in the Alternative top 10 on iTunes!

Once 21CB is released here as a single, I think it will catch on. It's so catchy and the video is sooo good!

21CB for Album of the Year! And keep voting for all things Green Day :D

Oh well, I always had a sense of foreboding, that 21st Century Breakdown wouldn't sale as much copies as American Idiot.. :(

There is also a simple fact that this type of music is not what is popular right now. Hip Hop and all that stuff is still massively outselling anything else. Plus AI happened to be 'in' at the time it was out; it was flavour of the month, so to speak. People bought that album who will never buy a GD album again. Kids bought it, parents bought it for their kids, it was just one of those records. Sales don't really mean anything when it comes down to it.

I think the album has done great considering all the above and the fact it's promotion has been rubbish.

Very true.

All the top songs in Australia have been techno and pop. The Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift have been doing really well. There are almost no alternative or rock songs on the countdowns. Although Muse are doing well.

I won't give a hoot about sales figures so long as it wins a fucking Grammy. :)

Here here!

And it's really not doing badly...why is everyone acting like it's royally sucking.

While the Grammys have gone downhill in recent years, I completely agree! :D

what if Grammy counts on album sales as well?

Alison Krauss and Robert Plant swept last year. Green Day's competition will be somebody really old that the Grammy people feel bad for.

Nominations come out December 2nd.

(Theoretically) they don't. But as previously pointed out, the Grammys love to give awards to artists years after they hit it big, like a pity win (not saying older winners never deserve their wins)...Herbie Hancock over Amy Winehouse, Steely Dan over Eminem, etc.

according to world wide albums 21st CB now has reached 2.428.000 sales!!! (last update 23rd October )

note : the figures aren't official

Agreed. I'm totally out of the loop with what is currently "in" - and God am I happy about that! Rap and hip-hop are apparently the "it" thing right now, but I just - ugh, I hate it. Rock is my genre always, no matter what genre is currently most popular. And, more importantly, Green Day is always my band, regardless of how many other people like them. Who gives a shit? They're the only band that matters to me.

Also, I believe American Idiot had far more commercial/mainstream appeal than 21CB does. Not that it means anything - I love American Idiot, but I feel 21CB is a huge progression for the band and is an absolute masterpiece. I think it's 10x better than AI, but also, it's far more...for lack of a better word, artistic. Every song on AI had the radio appeal, whereas 21CB only has a few. I think songs like Peacemaker and Viva la Gloria (Little Girl) are two of Green Day's best songs ever created, but will they show up on the radio or as a single anytime soon? No.

I just checked the wiki and found out that the band were among top 100 best selling artists of all time. which is the big deal. and also best selling in 00's. :)

The promotion hasn't been the best. And the fact that awsome timeless rock music is not pop now is one reason that the 21st Century Breakdown is not as massive as American Idiot. But there's no doubt that the record wouldn't be awsome it's one the best records of the century.

That's good considering the state of most albums. Plus it's awards' season now, so I think things will pick up once Green Day dominates the awards' circuit once again!
